#Canada College List needed, CS program
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
i think lot of people have ECs like research papers and lot of internships and non profit orgs
Hey there! As you already saw the title, I guess, no other explanation is needed here ngl
Location/Region: Canada, Near Toronto [or in the Ontario province].
Major: Computer Science
GPA: 4.89 / 5
Curriculum: Honestly, balanced seems fine. A good balance between social life and academics. Not a hardcore kill social life college tho.
Size: Not really that important.
Costs: I am looking for a budget friendly college.
Schools you're currently looking at (if any): I am utterly clueless as sad as it might sound
Additional: Not really. I am just willing to look for a good college but yet budget friendly and not too strict. And as I stated, near Toronto would be great.
Cheers, really hoping to get some good recommendations
Canada College List needed, CS program
utoronto and uwaterloo! good CS programs
^ waterloo is prob considered the golden standards for cs
there couple wloo kids for my summer internship and they r ridiculously cracked
check out alberta! go GUBAs!!!!
@floral flint @gusty reef is waterloo affordable tho? :') like do they provide much sholarships?
Will check out
Thanks for the help tho!
it's like 20k ish yr cad
but honestly that's nothing imo for cs degreee
like if u work hard u can easily make around 26,000-40,000 cad per internships/co-op
plus cs bonuses r usually in the 100,000 if ur good so for 20k/yr i think price is trivial
Well the payment is important for me because I come from a third world country so, yeah. It be bit of a toll to carry out that much
ah i see
yeah def dont take out loans then
i know they give scholarships to international students but idk if it's for 4 years
Simon fraser maybe?
No
SFU is like
The other side of Canada lmao
Cs schools “near Toronto”
UofT is in downtown Toronto (their st George campus, but they have UofT Mississauga and UofT Scarborough maybe both 1hour to 1 hour and a half away from downtown Toronto)
There is also TMU (formerly known as Ryerson University)
And then there is york which is in the Toronto area
We have Carleton which is also decent for cs and has a dev degree but it’s not close to Toronto. It’s located in ottawa and is maybe 8 ish hours away from toronto
Guelph is good, small campus and class size, profs are decent, best food for uni in Canada apparently. It’s maybe 2 hour ish away from downtown Toronto, but 45 from toronto in general ish ?
And then ofc waterloo which is 2 hour ish away from downtown Toronto and 1 hour away from toronto. Considered to be the best of the best for cs here and amazing coop they also have good scholarships especially if you did their math and cs competitions in HS
I live in Toronto but not the downtown part so these are rough approximations
Tldr if your grades are really good and you want the best of the best apply to waterloo and UofT
I think waterloo cares a bit more about extra curricular (UofT doesn’t give a shit) but you don’t need to have done anything insane
Waterloo also has SWE which is a very popular major for like a cs and comp Eng curriculum combined
Ping if you have any more questions and I’d be happy to answer
Some more info
Waterloo has an integrated business and cs program with Laurier meaning you would get a dual degree (cs at UW and business at LAURIER)
UofT is also stellar for cs but you actually have to declare cs your second year, if you do not pass a certain grade threshold your first year, you need to either redo that year again or pick another major
I wouldn’t say UofT or waterloo have amazing social lives
I mean I know the kids at waterloo go to Laurier for parties and shit
@eternal wagon hey man thats a bunch, you gave me a lot of reallly useful infos. I AM going to give it a go at Waterloo after results and just, really thanks alot
Congrats!!! I’m from the Toronto area, feel free to dm me about anything and I’ll do my best to help and get info on it. Waterloo is a great school with amazing opportunities and you should be so proud of yourself for getting in. I think you’ll really enjoy it especially their co op program!! 💗💗💗
Oh and fyi if you had both waterloo and UofT waterloo 100 percent would have gone with
People go crazy over waterloo cs and although UofT is great, waterloo seems slightly stress free, especially cause your gaurenteed great co op placement and your major!
I see, well again thanks so muchh
