UCLA
Pros:

  • campus is nicer imo & westwood, is nice
  • doesn't really matter too much, but has the better name (i think?)
  • loved the environment when i visited and think i would mesh better with the kind of students who go there
    Cons:
  • i got in for civil engineering (which i actually might still prefer over electrical, but in the case that i do want to switch it might be hard, not hard tho apparently)
  • larger class size, harder to sign up for classes I want
  • might be harder to find opportunities for research
  • quarter system (not really sure if that's a con though bc some aspects of the quarter system seem nice to me)
  • classes seem to be harder, but not sure
    USC
    Pros:
  • smaller class sizes
  • more supportive learning environment
  • easy to switch around major if I want to (also got in for EE here)
  • I might have a better suite-style dorm too bc I can stay at the honors college
  • might be easier to find research/internship opportunities??
  • classes might be easier so better gpa?
    Cons:
  • got a half-off tuition scholarship but it would still be like 10-15K more than UCLA (but in my father's eyes cost doesn't matter 😍)
  • feel like it might be harder to fit in, not a fan of the private school vibe
  • also v introverted and do not really want to go to parties which seems to be big here
  • surrounding area not very safe
I'm just getting really stressed out right now bc my mom is saying UCLA and my dad is leaning more towards USC and I just don't know what I want to do anymore 😭

As a usc student

#

go to ucla

#

10-15k is not an insignificant amount and to be completely honest when it comes to engineering ucla probably has us beat

#

The surrounding area being kinda sketchy literally does not matter tbh you aren’t gonna like randomly get jumped lol if you use common sense you will be fine

#

imo the only legitimate con you listed for ucla is larger class sizes. Classes being harder will likely be balanced out by the fact that UCLA has a stronger reputation. A slightly lower gpa from ucla isnt gonna make a difference than what you would have gotten from usc

#

To be completely honest both have very strong engineering programs and you cant go wrong with either one. Your success will largely be a factor of how hard you work and the steps you take to ensure your own success since even if ucla is slightly better the difference isnt really enough to matter a lot imo

#

If you think ucla is a better fit overall and it’s cheaper, you should go there imo.

#

Also parties arent really as big here as you might think. It’s huge if you’re part of greek life but if you’re not it’s not really huge theres a pretty big divide

#

People still party if they want to but theres not really a huge “party culture” unless u join a frat tbh

#

the only real con for ucla other than class size is that USC football owns ucla and you will have to cope with watching bruins football get owned during the game for the next 4 years

# safe ore Interesante any reasons why?

Agree with lukewarm and if you're worried about not getting the classes u want at ucla due to the size, it gets better if u have higher standing (with ap credits) or after the first few quarters

yall won last year but we got lincoln riley + caleb williams so savor it while it lasts historically we dominate the rivalry + we own you + chip kelley is a mid coach + 50-0 + L school

#

Not even mad or biased in any shape way or form. just spitting facts. As an honest, unbiased source I can say that the Trojans are far and away the superior football program and overall athletic program

ur problem has never been 5 star recruits. USC always loaded with talent but never anything to show for it. just talking abt these last few years so don’t start talking abt pete carroll days nobody cares. also football isn’t the only sport in the world. both unis have had historically good programs (UCLA basketball and USC football) but u can’t tell me USC football is better than UCLA basketball

@long helm if we’re talking all sports USC has been far more dominant recently and overall historically across the board compared to UCLA, in terms of football at least USC is still far better than UCLA overall. And yeah I agree USC has been mediocre at developing talent but that has mostly been due to poor coaching which is something the university recently fixed

#

USC has far more NCAA championships, more Olympic medals and Olympic gold medals. UCLA is still very good but still slightly below USC, whose only real competitor in that department imo is Stanford who probably has us beat tbh
