Intended Major: Biochemistry (& PreMed)

** UW Pros:**
better yearly schedule (later start date)
the quarter system means faster paced coursework, but allows more academic exploration.
Honors program available from the start, creates a smaller cohort but means I may not get the credit I wanted for AP classes
Already accepted into BioChem major
Urban - more things to do around campus and busier environment
Close to UW med center - lots of shadowing opportunities
Lots of friends also attending
UW Cons
more difficult to register for classes
35 K enrollment, much larger
20:1 student to faculty ratio
Worse weather - rain and short days
Really close to home, won’t be very different from high school

UNC Pros
Easier to change majors
potentially easier to minor or double major
better weather
further from home (Both pro and con)
semester system means classes take longer but you have the opportunity to take fewer classes
20K enrollment - smaller college size
Smaller class sizes on average (15:1 student to faculty ratio)
More school spirit
Great research opportunities in the research triangle
Everyone seemed super nice when I visited
Great Campus
UNC Cons
No honor program acceptance, but I could probably get into the honors program at the end of my first year on campus
suburban - less things to do in chapel hill but more focused on the campus
Not quite as highly ranked (maybe?)
Big greek life scene
Don’t know anyone attending

Other notes:
Financially, they’re about the same price. UNC would end up costing about 10K more over the course of four years.
Both colleges would give about equal amounts of credit (almost 1 full year) for my AP scores

Overall I'm leaning towards UNC because like the vibe of UNC more, and I'm worried about not being able to graduate in 4 years at UW. Please let me know if I'm missing anything.

If you're planning on UNC for pre-med, I will warn you that the intro classes are brutal and you will need to have a very competitive mindset. There are a lot of rude pre-meds in chem and bio that will try and tear you down. If you think you're prepared for that, then I think UNC sounds like a fantastic option for you :)
