Intended major: Finance

Cornell Pros

  • Lot of aid, only have to pay around 5.5k
  • Nice campus
  • Prestigious
  • High starting salary
  • Dyson has small class sizes
  • Heard food is great
  • Don’t need a minor
  • Heard dyson isn’t AS vigorous

Cornell Cons

  • Might take more years to graduate (my AP credits and college in high school credits won’t go through)
  • Overall more vigorous (dyson isn’t as vigorous though)
  • Middle of no where
  • A bit farther from my house
  • High suicide/depression rates

Binghamton Pros

  • lot of friends r going
  • Pretty campus (green everywhere)
  • Accepts all of my aps and college in hs credits so I’ll have less classes to take (less stressful) -> can probably graduate faster or take on more internships
  • Less vigorous (can take more internships)
  • A bit closer to home

Binghamton Cons

  • More expensive (10-13k)
  • Lower starting salary
  • More partying
  • Not as good business program compared to Cornell
  • Heard food sucks

If binghamton is more expensive then definitely Cornell

ye i agree^. As well as idk why u want to graduate faster specifically but i rlly dont recommend rushing college. itll be a great time to grow and make friends, connections, etc

I’m afraid I’m gonna take longer to graduate for Cornell and have less internship opportunities due to how vigorous classes would be. As for Binghamton, I would probably take all 4 years while taking more internship opportunities 😩

#

Wait what do intense classes have to do with internships

zealous garden
#

you can do plenty of interning in the summer!

stuck mirage
#

Aren’t they in the summer

twin ridge
#

I might not have enough time to take internships if I’m too busy studying for a vigorous class

#

Ohhhhhh

proper cloak
#

well- youll also have school breaks where u can intern. and idk much about cornell but they may be very accomodating for internships

zealous garden
#

it really won’t matter too much if you can’t get an internship during the year because you’re studying since the added prestige of cornell and the robust alumni network will help applications in finance

twin ridge

Ig that’s true. The only thing that’s holding me back from committing to Cornell is that I might take longer to graduate cause I heard more people graduate within 5-6 years compared to the usual 4 (and internships but ig I can do it over breaks). While other finance majors can graduate on time and gain experience during the extra years I’m still in school, I’m afraid I’m at a disadvantage when I’m trying to find a job

proper cloak
#

thats fair enough but youll still have plenty of time to get experience. As well as u being a year or two older rlly isnt a big deal uk

#

idk. itd probably be best to ask someone who did choose to attend college for 5-6 years. Whether at cornell or somewhere else

#

are u sure youd have to go for 5-6 years?

twin ridge
#

people in dyson Cornell said that dyson isn’t as vigorous and that you could probably graduate within 4 years if you don’t take a minor or do much clubs and stuff.

#

on the other hand, bing will accept 25 credits (or more depending on my APs this year) , meaning I would only have to achieve 95 (or less) credits to graduate

proper cloak
#

i rlly think u should talk to someone who went the 5-6 year route and ask if they felt behind and such

#

also keep in mind ppl go to grad school uk. that could add a few extra years too. kinda similar

#

Cornell is a ton better imo but you seem to want to go to binghamton. 🤷‍♂️

#

Trust me, you do not want to intern during the school year

#

Cornell’s prestige is so much better than almost anything at Binghamton, well worth the extra years or whatever

#

Also extra years is fine when you’re paying next to nothing

#

Cornell’s campus is one of the, if not the most beautiful campuses I’ve ever been on.

#

@twin ridgehonestly (being real, and i mean no offense to anyone) this server is biased toward prestige. U might want to ask the Binghamton reddit or something

rancid hornet
#

Very true

#

Oh also

#

How old you are doesn’t matter a single bit when applying to jobs/internships/etc

twin ridge
#

my cousin is a senior in Binghamton and I did talk with him but we came to the conclusion that

Looking at finances, Cornell def wins

Looking at sanity and mental health, Binghamton wins

rancid hornet
#

Experience is what sets you apart

twin ridge
#

yea, thats why I’m not sure cause ik I can gain more experience in Binghamton

twin ridge
#

based on my cousin’s experiences, he has taken several internships within his school year

rancid hornet
#

What major is he? Finance too?

twin ridge
#

actuary accounting

rancid hornet
#

So same difference

proper cloak
#

yeah. i feel like employers look more for experience. itll set u apart more

rancid hornet
#

I’d still argue that the prestige of Cornell would work for you in crazy ways. You’ll probably have fewer internships, but you could get internships at some amazing places

#

I don’t know who the movers and shakers are in the finance industry

#

But wherever your dream employer is, that’s where Cornell could get you

#

Unless your dream employer is based in Binghamton lol

summer trellis
#

looking at finances and general academic+industry recognition, cornell is an amazing deal
