UVA
Major: Econ or Business

  • less stressful and less cutthroat culture
  • higher chance for b school and b school major not impacted
  • econ is not impacted major
  • smaller
  • pretty campus, tied with Berkeley
  • friendly, possibly best college town
  • target business school like Haas
    Cons
  • more preppy
  • more greek life
  • less clubs im interested in
  • still chance of not getting into b-school
  • worst weather and snow
  • OOS so I do not know anyone

Tiebreaking considerations:

  • Culture and cutthroatness of the schools and course rigor
  • how much students care about their education at each school and value learning, not just preprofessional
  • recruiting stats
Addendum: I want a school that balances both training for future careers while still maintaining a strong sense of passion for learning and where people genuinely care about discovering interesting information in college. Additionally, I want a welcoming, friendly campus that is open with greenery and is pleasant to walk around. I like a mix of both old and new buildings, including gothic architecture and modern architecture that shows how the school has progressed and evolved throughout its years.

Maybe that can help you narrow down to 2

Are there opportunities in berk that will prepare you for the future, that can’t be found in UVA?

What can going to Berkeley achieve for you that cannot be done at UVA?

For Berk, I do not know for certain, but from what I have seen it looks like there are larger group of students who are also devoted to their academics and truly enjoy the classes they take. Additionally, Berkeley is in a location that offers easy access to family and all of Cali. Berk will also be considerably more challenging but if I can make it out then I am prepared for career challenges and life afterwords. UVA will offer an easier chance at b school and be the furthest from home while being a less stressful and smoother experience.

I'd choose Berkeley for the more entrepreneurship focused bus student body if that is your goal
