Schools: UW Madison vs CU Boulder
Intended major: Mechanical Engineering
Boulder would be around 8k more expensive than Madison. I visited both, and I felt better in boulder. I also didn't like much Madison's mech eng building, it looks old and sad. And I don't know how much school rank matters

UW Madison
Pros:
Ranked 15th best engineering
Superior academic recognition
Bigger city
Sports culture

Cons:
Weather
180 sunny days
Not many sports to do in the winter
I feel like engineering is a little isolated from the rest of the school

CU Boulder
Pros:
The place is beautiful
Great community
Many outdoor sports
Girls are prettier

Cons:
Ranked 31st engineering
Lot of people say it is too overpriced
I believe it will be harder to find a good job after grad
It does not have a building specific to mech eng
more expensive

Recognition: what's the view companies have of a Boulder engineer?
Madison discussion system: I don't know much about it but I don't think it is a good system

Even though UW Madison is higher ranked, if you feel that CU Boulder is better for you, I would say go with that school. If you end up going to a higher ranked school that you don't like, then you wouldn't feel motivated to use your opportunities to the fullest extent
