Schools: Baruch CUNY or Long Island University
Intended major: Biology in Baruch, Health Science in LIU
Baruch Pros:
- No cost thanks to PELL/TAP
- SEEK Program gives extra counselor / counseling to receive individual attention
- Program also gives metrocard and extra financial aid
- Close to home, only an hour commute
Baruch Cons:
- Is a good business school, other programs are weaker
- Other majors don't really interest me if Bio doesn't work out for me
Long Island University
LIU Pros:
- Good Medical Programs (The Brooklyn Campus is really only medical related degrees)
- Close to Home (45ish minute commute)
LIU Cons:
- Less Financial Aid (Have to pay about 2k)
- Most Aid comes from School Scholarship where I need to keep my GPA above 3.3>, and I'm worried about losing it if something unexpected happens
- Visited a small part of the campus and I didn't like it, but it's tolerable.
I am leaning towards Baruch simply because of the no cost. I am still not sure what I want to major in 100% and I think the extra counseling from SEEK will help a lot, and I can knock out prerequisites in my first two years there and then maybe transfer somewhere else. However, I'm worried there will be less opportunities since Baruch is known for being a business school.
