#UIUC (math&CS) vs Cornell (CS in CoE)

Idk if my message sent. Here goes again:
Uiuc pros:
- t5 cs school, lots of cs only career fairs, good internships
- free career advising and resume help
- cheaper
- gen eds are not science 🙂
- big 10 school, so I’ll get to experience that sort of culture
- dorms have ac and dining halls (and late night dining)
- cs culture seems collaborative
- so much ap credit
- boba! And food looks decent
Uiuc cons:
- outside of campus and campus town isnt super safe
- not great gender balance in cs classes
- intro classes are flipped and ta led, this may be the case everywhere tho
- far away (10 hrs) and breaks dont line up with my family’s
- flat so like eh hiking and no skiing. Good stargazing tho?
Cornell pros:
- ivy pReStIge
- similarly ranked for cs
- gen eds look pretty fun
- student body is potentially more similar to me, but really a non issue since Uiuc is huge and I’ll find people
- profs seem to have higher ratemyprof ratings lol
- project teams! The AppDev one looks like literally everything i want lol
- close (3 hrs) and breaks line up better with my sisters’ school ones
Cornell cons:
- more expensive and no aid :/
- science gen eds. Ive been traumatized by high school physics and am WORRIED about handling them
- a lot less freedom with scheduling things due to pre recs
-no ac in freshman dorms. Whats the tuition paying for then lol
Note: student outcomes are almost equal i think so this is a non issue
Tie breaks: boba in the area lol, which internships do students get? How stressful are both programs? Is it manageable? Similar lgbtq life (and dating i guess) on both or is one significantly better? Which specific aspects of cs is each strong in?
uiuc if you are in state
Not in state lol
I don't see any particular reason to pick Cornell except for bragging/prestige
what's the coa for each
Exactly what the website says no scholarships lol
Like 67k for Uiuc and almost 80k for cornell iirc
are you ny instate?
Nope
Cost is a non issue tho since my parents both saved smart and are doctors so like… yeah
nice. You can't go wrong with either, but I personally would go with uiuc
Why?
i think its west coast network is larger than cornell's
cornell's network disappears when you head west according to an alum
since you're cs I assume you're coming to the bay to work
Fully honest idk
it's cs research is also higher
If Uiuc has a stronger overall network though thats a big point in its favor
Oh really?
sure but its reputation sustains
also math&CS at UIUC is mostly math no?
I think cornell is better here
if you want to do mainly CS
that idk, the difference between math/cs at uiuc at cornell cs
but reputation isn't very useful for cs
see our curriculumn. its a very strong focus on both
funny, bc both are highly reputable in CS
When i was looking it seemed pretty 50/50, but i get calc credit so i have some space to work with i think
Minor update: i think I’m going to cornell. They have the project teams (which i really want to join) and I’m in pure cs. Also, my family wants me to go there.
I like Cornell so Cornell
