UW vs. Northeastern vs. URochester

I'm a neuroscience major who will be on a pre med track! Any help would be so so appreciated bc I am really struggling to decide 🙂

UW Seattle

Pros:

  • I love Seattle so so much!!
  • big school —> lots of opportunities for research
  • I got a small scholarship
  • Honors College!!
  • Beautiful campus
  • school spirit and sports/good social life
  • good pre med advising/med school placement
  • Outdoorsy and access to hiking

Cons:

  • very far from home
  • weed out intro STEM classes will be hard
  • Less prestigious?? Idk

Northeastern

Pros:

  • big scholarship
  • coop!! can work in the numerous medical places in Boston (hospitals etc)
  • NUin program —> get to travel for first semester
  • really good [sport] team that I would be on (this sports team is okay at UW and URoch but national level at NEU)

Cons:

  • extremely close to home (25 min) 😦 I kind of want to explore someplace new for college
  • NUin transition to Boston might be rough for semester 2 of freshman year (everyone already made friends, etc)
  • less traditional social life with coop etc everyone coming and going from campus for months at a time?
  • might graduate in 5 years because of coop
  • sketchy admissions and overcrowded campus

URochester

Pros:

  • open curriculum!
  • very good for pre med (from what I have heard)
  • Eastman school of music!! not a student there but could take lessons for my instrument
  • big research focus (R1) with liberal arts education
  • beautiful campus

Cons:

  • not actually in Rochester downtown, have to take bus to get there
  • Rochester the city itself doesn’t have a ton going on
  • weather can be depressing w sm snow and grey days
  • smaller than I would like
  • isolated from other cities (no big cities nearby)

If it’s a decent factor, then it may be good to know how sizable some of these scholarships are
