stanford
pros:
- actual humanities programs
- more flexible geneds
- grade inflation is so hot
- weather!!! just absolutely wins here
- close to home (a lot of my friends r staying in the bay)
- lots of programs i'm in love with
- very good fit for my research interests
cons:
- duck syndrome
- won't really be a new college experience
- can't go to stanford for grad school if i do ugrad there (at least for ling)
mit
pros:
- best linguistics program objectively
- my subfield of ling was founded here --> multiple labs working on it
- new college experience
- in a city = lots to do and i rlly like cambridge
- harvard cross registration
cons:
- very hard which is not something i rlly want to do after hs
- COLD
- i don't like stem all that much so the GIRs seem hellish
- not a lot of hum classes
harvard
pros:
- best classics program
- like 80+ languages offered
- can do research w aforementioned mit labs
- grade inflation go brrr
- new college experience
- in a city = lots to do and i rlly like cambridge
- flexible prereqs
cons:
- COLD
- have not had good interactions with faculty so far at all compared to mit/stanford
- vaguely pretentious vibes
- probably the weakest ling program
- not a lot of comp linguistics
- harvard --> consulting pipeline is very real and scary
The consulting pipeline is real everywhere
Can you DM the ECs that got you into these colleges lol, bc I'm pretty interested in Linguistics, but not sure how to go about it in ters of ECs
Also personally I would go with MIT
Just because of later opportunities and flexibility with kind of doing your own Jam
no
agh but from stats alone isn't it like 30% of harvard grads
it's historically ~20% of people planning on working immediately after graduation (~60% so 12% of harvard grads overall) https://features.thecrimson.com/2021/senior-survey/after-harvard/
the figure at stanford is similar https://stanforddaily.com/2021/06/12/stanfords-class-of-2021-by-the-numbers/
figure at MIT is apparently ~10% https://ir.mit.edu/undergrad-senior-survey-2018
ok wow yeah nvm
