Schools:* Yale and Columbia!
Intended major: Columbia: Financial Engineering, Yale: Economics and ChemE or Chemistry
Similarities: Size, general region, Ivies, Price
Columbia
School 1 Pros:

  • Egleston Scholars Program
  • NYC (free tickets, love city life, need some hustle and bustle)
  • Like a slightly bigger student body?
  • Core genuinely seems cool
  • My uncle is there
  • I love being in the center of culture
    School 1 Cons:
  • Can't double (easily between schools)
  • Colder people and stress?
    Yale
    School 2 Pros:
  • More prestige??
  • Love Residential Colleges
  • More greenery/room to stretch
  • Possibly go to NYC on weekends
  • Have a bestie there
  • Can combine chem and Econ
    School 2 Cons:
  • Gets absolutely dogged on for engineering
  • Not in NYC
  • No special program like Egleston
    Tiebreaking considerations:
  • Yale urban-ness
  • Culture/vibes
  • How much does Egleston matter?
  • Outcomes

Wdym Econ Econ?

violet cedar
#

i meant like if u plan to study econ, i would choose yale tbh

#

the engineering stuff tho, i would choose columbia

At Yale, I would double in ChemE (or thinking about Chem if engineering is really that bad) and Economics. And then Financial Engineering for Columbia. Isn't Yale going hard in the paint for stem

#

i think so but the egleston might lead you to much more exposure and opportunists in engineering field

#

tbh, both are great schools. you should pick the one you want to attend more

#

imo, if they were the same price, i’d choose yale cause it’s pretty and it has distributional requirements instead of a core curriculum

#

plus the community is vv friendly

#

I have no idea which one I want to attend more lol. Both same price basically

a tour and chat with current students might help

Never heard a student not happy at brown or yale

#

I heard some bad reviews from some columbians

# keen iron Haha. Tell me more

Idk I don’t have any additional insights beyond what you’ve stated but literally I’ve never heard anyone regret yale

#

For Columbia I heard about some problems with the dorms and classes having a lot of students

#

But yeah, you can’t go wrong with either

Both of these are amazing schools without a doubt, and you can't go wrong with choosing either!

What is the career you want to pursue in the future?

However, I second everyone's recommendation for Yale! I think it seems like you prefer Yale since you're interested in double majoring Chem and Econ, you love the residential college system, and you like having more nature on-campus.

I don't think I want to be a straight up engineer. But I want to very much have an understanding of systems, physical science, and how it all interacts with Econ. Maybe some consulting or a start up? Having the engineering background just enables a lot of problem solving thst jsut econ might not

#

For straight engineering I probably should go to cal ngl💀💀 But i am taking this two schools at a time. ❤️

I'd pursue Yale then. However, a double major typically does mean it's extremely hard to maintain though. The workload can be overwhelming. You do state that you really like the NYC Culture, but I do feel like it'd be better to go to Yale just to get a better understanding for what you want to pursue.

However, I don't know what Columbia Egleston Scholars is. Could you explain it to me?
