Schools: Princeton vs Yale
Intended major: International Relations/PoliSci
**Similarities: ** Both top schools in the nation, carry similar prestige, both very good in international relations.

Princeton
Pros:

  • Princeton has the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, which I really really like. Enjoy all the collaborative programs within this school, such as the Junior Policy Task Forces, the Junior Papers, and the Senior Thesis which you can work with the renowned faculty at Princeton.
  • Princeton is better ranked in international relations than Yale (although Yale is taking steps with the jackson institute for global affairs.)
  • Princeton's campus is gorgeous, and I prefer it 10x over Yale's, which I think is very disjointed and inharmonious.
  • As an REA admit, I've already bonded with many future classmates and the school istelf on an emotional level.
  • Princeton has a much more engaged alumni network.
  • Princeton's community is stronger than Yales from what I've heard.
  • More politically moderate cultrue, which I feel I'll fit into better. I've heard that Yale is very liberal and intolerant to dissenting views with the recent protests and all. Princeton seems more open minded.
  • Princeton is seen as more academically presigious/rigorous than Yale.
  • princeton is ranked higher than yale across many ranking sites.
  • Princeton's undergraduate focus is great.
    Cons:
  • will cost me $10,500 more than Yale, but I'm trying to re-nogotiate aid right now with Yale's figures.
  • I might want to become a lawyer so I'll need to apply to law schools. I've heard about Princeton's grade deflation policies and they may hurt my GPA when applying to law school. Which I worry about.
  • Farther away from home (2h vs 1h to yale)
  • You can't double major.

Yale
School 2 Pros:

  • I'm draw to Yale's "relaxed and collaborative" culture which seems to be the defining aspect of the school. Although I'm confused how a school that recruits the same students can have such a distinct culture when the people in there cycle in and out every 4 years.
  • Yale has grade inflation which will help with my law school GPA.
  • Yale has more of a pre-law culture, and its students dominate Stanford, harvard, yale law schools undergeadute numbers.
-- Yale has less of a stem culture which I really like.
  • Yale currently costs $10,500 less per year, althoguh I am renegotiating it.
  • Yale has more classes which I want to take. princeton actually scrapped all the classes that I wanted to take for next year which is a bummer.
  • Yale has more interesting majors, like the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
  • 1 hour away from home.
    School 2 Cons:
  • New Haven
  • Don't like the campus, although its okay.

10.5k per year or over 4 years?

How much does double majoring matter to you?

Honestly, the one thing that I would be concerned about Princeton is the grade deflation

Yup, deflation is a really big deal if you're applying to law schools

#

@wild glen Since you're looking at law schools, consider the GPA stats needed for whatever ur target schools are

#

I dont know if school name matters but ive heard it doesnt but dont quote me

#

in terms of the gpa component

#

here's the list of the law school gpa stats for admission

#

I’d try to compare the average GPA at the two schools and see if the difference is manageable
