Major: CS or Data Science (if CS too competitive), minor in Earth Science perhaps
GPA/Test Scores (optional): 3.994:( unweighted, 4.603 weighted, 1550 SAT
Please do not add your extracurriculars. My ecs are pretty decent, not super duper impressive but decent
What are some target schools? What are reaches? I literally don't know how to classify as target or reach, so pls gimme advice

what state are you in? your state schools are a great place to start looking.
how much are you budgeting for college? finances for most people are the primary restriction.
your stats are pretty much competitive for every school in the country so I wouldn't worry about stats.
california, imma apply to UCs
im just not sure what is my targets
yk
like is uc davis a target
its getting competitive so im not sure now
For you, SB may be a target but its hard to tell with CS nowadays (im doing cs too)
thx for this
dang san diego and santa barbara are that competitive?
honestly ucs are so random so ig they are
would uiuc be a hard target?
UIUC is extreme reach for CS
especially out of state, the aceptance rate is a suprising 4%
sd and sb not as competitive outside of cs
ur stats are good so for you santa barbara is probably a target
i read somewhere irvine cs acceptance rate is 11% but not sure how accurate
😭 wow thats real competitive
dam
how about if i apply for data science @viscid tulip , would my target/reach for uiuc and ucs change?
i heard data sicence is less competive than cs
oh
UCSD CS is wild
only the kids who were already accepted to la/berkeley got into their cs
agree mostly but i'd bring santa barbara down a tier and davis up a tier
uci and ucd have gotten more competitive in recent years i think? uci has a decent data sci and game programs
so few ppl from my school got into uci it was weird
but like you said ucs are unpredictable so just apply to most/all of them and see what happens
maybe i'll get off WL then
for sd?
Yeah or irvine
rejected SB and accepted Berk
you don't know
UIUC CS is more competitive than every UC lol
also don't pay OOS tuiton to do Data Science at UIUC
makes no sense
its worth it for ucs tho u think?
what is
I said it doesn't make sense because CS is what UIUC is basically known for and it wouldn't make sense to pay OOS tuiton to do data science there.
If you wanna do Data Science, with your stats, you would easily get into a UC imo
and it's better to do that, but you should ask yourself if you want to do DS or CS
I recommend applying to cal poly slo engineering as well. strong cs program
thx, will look into it
would slo be a safety or nah?
i cant find the acceptance rate for cs
for cs probably a target
every other major its a little bit less
the engineering there is hard to get into
👍
It's not a safety but it would be a low target with your stats
For cs basically any target becomes a reach, any safety becomes a target
unfortunately very true
my mistake was applying as a cs major with very average /low average stats
if ur into grad school/academeia, i might recommend UCSB CCS (fantastic math and physics, not sure about CS)
thx, will look into that
fr bro its sad
UIUC is possible OOs tho I got into Grainger which is the cs engineering program
I would recommend applying
oh interesting
tho u got into cmu...
so uh ur op
i mean you could possibly do it too?
i dont get your point
I got into both cmu and uiuc with a 3.7 and test optional
the point is that it's stupidly difficult:d might not be worth
