#UCSD Data science Vs UCSB Data science

idk much about either school, but here is a list of where recent UCSD data science graduates ended up last year
my impression is that UCSD is considered better known but I'm not sure how big the gap is, nor how much it matters
within tech, skills and experience >> school name
im leaning towards UCSD too in terms of academics
Unless you significantly like UCSB, then UCSD
agree
UCSD is more stem focused and well connected
UCSB's strength is in Psych/Sociology and also a great school for partying
If you did want a more social environment and thinking of partying then UCSB isn't a bad choice
Yea agree on the partying this is a school where social interaction is more hangout focused than like parties like ucsb 🥲… so if you vibe more with the party scene ucsb is a better option
hey! where do i find data like this for other schools?
specifically ucsb and their data science grads
i searched linkedin, but some schools show their students' outcomes on their websites
oh okay thanks! how exactly did you make that kind of search on linked in and receive results in a table as such
I'm not sure why I didn't mention this earlier, but I got into UCSB Data Science last year. It was actually my alt major from mechnical engineering since I didn
didn't want to go into CS at the time, but from what I looked up UCSB Data Science is more math than CS
Like it was based on their statistics major. I'm pretty much UCSD leans more towards the CS side
Pretty sure UCSB has more "academic freedom" for Data Science. So if you want more DS/CS related classes, you can choose those as your electives. If you want more math related classes, you can choose those as your electives. I feel like UCSD is a bit better overall for Data Science but you can't go wrong with either
i think that theres a substantial gap between sd and sb for ai/ml/ds but idk
No iirc sd considers ds as math
Maybe for research but idk about recruiting
id think that ucsd has a bigger alum network?
from SB alum, recruiting for tech is pretty eh (esp compared to a more urban SD)
Yeah I agree that recruiting is better at SD, but comparing DS at UCSB and UCSD at the undergraduate level is pretty similar and getting jobs at either won't be difficult.
