rutgers 100% if u r in state

supple phoenix
#

It also depends on what type of place you wanna live

#

IMO Shanghai >>>>> new jersey

#

for opportunities shanghai is really good, there are lots of cool activities the school offers, and I think its worth it to explore the world a bit

#

but it might be personal bias since I live in shanghai rn

#

plus shanghai is extremely safe, you could walk out at midnight with no problems

#

and I believe you can transfer to different campuses if u need

#

and IMO shanghai weather is quite manageable. I liked the weather here better than pennsylvania since the cold here is humid cold

As a Canadian-Chinese who lived in China for almost her entire life,, my advise is get away from China. Things are really unstable there and although the chances are pretty uncertain, one little political change can really impact your entire life.

supple phoenix
#

Its not unstable at all imo

#

especially shanghai, a global city

uncut plaza
#

It's probably because of the industry of your parents & your city

#

I lived in Beijing & my mom does finance. A lot of the companies are already leaving market

supple phoenix
#

Shanghai is vastly different from beijing

uncut plaza
#

But the country is the same country

supple phoenix
#

even as a country, nothing bad really has happened

#

doesn't really affect the foreigners who live there

uncut plaza
#

We're not talking what has happened though. It's better to think about what will happen.

#

I mean, it's just my thoughts the the country that I've been living in

supple phoenix
#

I doubt anything will happen

#

and even if it does, you won't get impacted

#

there are so many internationals living here

#

China isn't north korea

#

its not as bad as people always say

#

the western news messes up all the perceptions

uncut plaza
#

I lived in China for 15 years as an "international" (I hold Canadian citizenship) I don't get my perceptions from western news.

supple phoenix
#

I currently live here

#

and its very different

#

from the western news

#

or any other perceptions

uncut plaza
#

What makes you think all I know is from western news lmao

supple phoenix
#

if you live in a western country, all you get is western news

uncut plaza
#

Yes and if you currently live in China all you get is Chinese propaganda

#

we're really not that different, according to you then

supple phoenix
#

all governments do propaganda and have issues

#

the difference is who can talk about it openly

#

thats the only difference

uncut plaza
#

Exactly. Have you talked about China & Xi negatively like how Americans can talk about Trump in the States? Making memes in China? It's a communist country after all

supple phoenix
#

yea, but you can talk about it privately

uncut plaza
#

You can talk about everything private in the States too. Why can't I express my opinions publicly in China? Because it's not a free country.

#

Let's let OP decide. I was just here offering my experience and thoughts. It's okay if you don't agree anyways. Not trying to persuade anyone in the first place.

supple phoenix
#

sure

#

But trust me, most of the media on China tries to portray it negatively. This country is amazing and has a lot to offer in experience and opportunity. Shanghai is one of the biggest and most culturally diverse places on the world. You'll be in a place safer than most American cities. If you got any questions about shanghai, you can ask me.
