hmmm interesting---thank you!! ive heard decent things about berkeley for my niche but ill keep that in mind for other big publics
I mean, your interests aren't like... crazy wide across disciplines
like they are on the same branch of the tree
rather than like music and chemistry or something
yeah i agree but people are surpised when i tell them thats what i want to major in 💀
but it can also be harder to get research and close relationships with professors at huge universities where your lower level econ classes will have like 300 people
Tufts for sure
They’re super big on interdisciplinary
Harvard of course, Pomona/5Cs in general (you might like all of them to be honest definitely look into it)
Barnard is a great womens college in NYC
Dartmouth would be up that allet for sure. Amazing ECON department, has a quantitative social science program, public policy minor
lol i've never heard of the 5cs. i'll look into that though---my cousin is doing her phd and recomended pomona for me
oh, missed that you really want a math/social science overlap, so yeah, QSS would be amazing. Plus Dartmouth has an amazing debate team
haha yes many of my debate friends go to dartmouth. ty for the rec
i visited the 5cs last week and theyve all got great campuses and vibes! if u go to one of them u can take classes at any of the other ones too iirc so thats cool
yup! scripps is a womens college, claremont mckenna is great for econ, harvey mudd is super stem focused, pomona is great for everything, pitzer is known for social issues, but its all a consortium so you can freely take classes at one of the other 4 colleges and it's very interdisciplinary
i second dartmouth
although, Hanover is about a 3 hour bus ride from Boston
Which doesn't really matter all that much
Maybe look at Bryn Mawr and Smith
also University of Rochester
and then this major/program at Northeestern https://mmss.northwestern.edu/undergraduate/program-overview/
Fact of the matter is, this is a popular and usually strong area for a lot of LACs
oh thats really nice id love the flexibility of that!!
oh also maybe Barnard if you want women's college in a big city
Emory has the QSS major (but if you have a strong math background I would recommend taking the grad level version instead, they're not super math intensive)
You could also major in this and take econ/policy electives: https://acms.washington.edu/program-requirements-and-information
Program Requirements For admissions requirements, please visit our Admissions page. The Program Core is a set of courses totaling 29-31 credits which are generally required for all ACMS majors. Exceptions are specifically pointed out in the descriptions of the various options. The core courses will provide a solid foundation from which student...
yesss!! this is what I plan to apply for as my major at uw
Do you want to do a PhD? Or a master's
phd eventually but im not dead set on academia yet
If you want to do a PhD in econ I would try go for the following option:
https://acms.washington.edu/mathematical-economics-and-quantitative-finance-0
Also skip econ 200/201 if you have AP credit and know how to take a derivative and go for the intermediate versions
Ah okay thank you for the advice. This looks perfect for me
Hmm ok maybe consider this too then
