Schools: NYU vs Purdue
Intended Major: Computer Science
Costs: Overall, costs really aren't a problem with my family. However, I still want to consider the smarter choice financially.
Purdue
Pros
- Very good T20(#16) CS program with a good reputation within the tech industry
- Program is very rigorous, so I probably would be pretty well versed in terms of my abilities
- Offers a good amount of Computer Science Opportunities in terms of research, the VIP program, CS clubs/ECs
- Affordable tuition compared to other schools of similar caliber(despite money not being much of an issue)
- Area around Purdue is pretty safe from what I have heard
Cons:
- Surrounded by cornfields and pretty isolated, so I do have a worry that I won't have a lot of fun
- I heard from friends who have visited the campus that the social scene looks pretty dead, but there are also people saying that the social scene is fine(Overall, heard mixed opinions about it)
NYU
Pros
- Located in NYC, so I'm sure it would be an incredible and fun place to be at. In addition, there would be a ton of opportunities for interships because i mean its New York City so
- Seems to have more prestige/higher ranking overall
Cons
- ight bruh 100k per year like what we doin
- Haven't heard amazing things about the cs program. It's not horrible, but it doesn't sound the best either
- Doesn't have an actual campus, so I don't know if I like that
Tiebreaking Considerations: Honestly, it seems like Purdue is the best option for me. NYC sounds really fun, but it just doesn't seem like the financially smart choice considering the program at NYU for computer science isn't all that good. I am honestly just making this post just to see if there is anything else I should consider about NYU before making my decision to commit to Purdue. Let me know! \
