Schools: Fordham & Stonybrook
Intended major: English, plan on pursuing law
Similarities: Both have fairly strong reputations, research opps., internships, & more
Costs: Fordham - 35k (Commuting) for one year, Stonybrook - 35k (Dorming), for one year. Family covering the cost.
Fordham
School 1 Pros:
- IN nyc! Get to experience more of the city life which I've always dreamed of and love. Seems like they have a relatively good social scenes. Lots of internship opps. especially for law programs and whatnot. Easy to network! Seems better for my field.
School 1 Cons: - Mainly that I'd have to commute. The commute itself isn't bad, but I'd love to be able to dorm and have that experience. Scared about not meeting as many people as I could compared to if I dorm. Expensive school just for commuting as well (trying to negotiate for more aid but no response yet)
Stonybrook
School 2 Pros:
- Great research university! Seems like they have a lot of available resources for their students. Feel as though that it's a school I truly like, and would love to dorm at. Able to get away from home without being too far away as well. Have a couple friends going here as well.
School 2 Cons: - Heard very mixed reviews about the social life. Many people say the social life is dead, while others say its decent. Supposedly gets quiet on weekends as well. In Long Island, a place I feel that doesn't really fit my vibe. More geared towards STEM, so not as good for my major. Grade deflation also apparently a thing here?
Tiebreaking considerations
- If I were to receive more scholarship/fin. aid from one school.
