Currently I’m deciding between UIUC CS + Econ (out-of-state) and UT Austin Statistics & Data Science in-state, and I’m really torn about whether UIUC is worth the extra cost long term. If anyone has experience with these programs, especially how the debt/cost tradeoff compares to the academic and career upside, I’d really appreciate advice on what I should do.
#UIUC CS + Econ or UT Austin SDS(In-State)

I think instate, especially at a college like UT is more worth it than uiuc
how easy is changing majors at ut?
go with the state flagship
ut austin is very good
I disagree. UIUC CS is one of the best programs in the country
How much debt would you be going into?
SDs isn’t great from what I’ve heard
69k a year
I dont really care about cost, just thr ROI
How much is Ut
The roi actually may not be as good. Tech companies have frozen hiring and imposed layoffs; we aren’t in 2015 anymore sadly
Maybe UT is a good choice
UIUC has a large community of CS alumni in the silicon valley, which can be handy when you are job hunting. Austin is also a prestigious school. If your goal after graduation is to go to silicon valley, I'd say go with UIUC.
I do not need to be hearing ts 😭🙏
The second I get rejected from UIUC everyone is glazing it
Anyways, to Doggo, you should attend UIUC
so how much of a factor is cost for your family tho? could they potentially pay for four years or will you have to take some heavy loans
they can pay my four years, and UT is 40k a year
ROI wise. UTA no doubt, since you're in state.
UT Austin SDS is likely better if you’re in state. UIUC is in the middle of nowhere, and while its rep will likely get you a good job, it’s easier to find internships and other opportunities in Austin. You should state other preferences you may have to help people here help you make a decision.
I second the person above in terms of having more access to jobs/resources. (I applied to CS at UT + other schools) I was deterred from applying to UIUC because it seems to be sorta middle of nowhere. I suppose its personal preference (I only applied to urban schools) but I think theres notable benefits to a school in a bigger city. Also.. coming from Texas, everyone loves UT here!
uiuc so expensive
