Schools: Virginia Tech (IN STATE) , Purdue
Intended major: Applied electrical engineering, want to switch to mechanical
Similarities: Both amazing for engineering

Costs: in state for VT, oos for purdue, probably not getting any aid for either so likely roughly 40k for VT and 50k for Purdue

VT Pros:

  • Love the environment, great food, closer to home
  • Cheaper
  • I've heard research/internship opportunities are pretty available for engineering
    VT Cons:
  • Slightly lower ranked
  • probably less opportunities/prestige than Purdue

Purdue Pros:

  • Better for my major
  • probably better job/internship opportunities
    Purdue Cons:
  • I don't know much about the overall environment like social life, food, campus, weather, etc.
  • more $$$
  • further from home

Tiebreaking considerations:

  • mostly just wondering how the student environment is like at Purdue (ignoring academics)
  • and are the opportunities/education better enough where it's worth the extra money?
(BTW money isn't a serious concern as my parents are paying fully but I don't want to waste their money if its not worth it)
  • also how is major switching for engineering at both of these schools? (as I mentioned I applied electrical but most likely want to switch to mechanical)

purdue is like

#

one of the best in eng

#

idk about the social life but i'd except it to be pretty good seeing as it's a pretty large public school

#

you will definitely have more opportunities coming out of purdue engineering

Honestly if you already know you like VT I think you can go there and be just as successful

VT easily imo
I don't think the "extra money" confers any major additional benefits? VT has a fantastic engi program & alum network
