#Should I replace any of these schools based on what I said

Why is your career path changing based on the school
Either you want med school or law school or engineering
Pick one
why??? im not completely sure yet and my dad was telling me since jhu had good biomedical engineering i should apply for that and go to med school
can't people with engineering degrees go to law school? especially to do patent law?
Medicine as a career is so so so different from law
And both are so so so different from engineering
why do you like medicine? Why do you like law? Why do you like engineering?
Law and medicine especially are careers that require immense dedication
You’ll burnout so fast if you don’t actually like it
honestly medicine is the one that i am least passionate about but my mom is a nurse and i have always just found the human body very interesting and stuff like that
law i liked pheonix wright and daredevil and then when i actually looked into it i found it to be a very interesting field and engineering is just cause i like building stuff and like robotics
To be a premed you need to be focused on medical related activities from early on in college.
You will need to go to medical school which is 4 extra years and $250,000 - $400,000
You will need to then do residency which is 3-7 years and will have you working 60-100 hours a week with minimal vacation time
and honestly i was originally planning on just getting an engineering degree as something to fallback on as i minor in theatre and try to work on my acting career after i graduate but if that shows no promise at all i was thinking of going into patent law (and my dad is the main one who metioned med school tbh)
so would going biomedical engineering not work for that?
I totally understand not knowing what career path you want atm, but that just means you should be undecided, not locking yourself to specific fields based on the college you go to
Going to Hopkins for college won’t even help you for medicine, where you go to college barely matters ^
mhm ok
It would, but the work of a biomedical engineer is super distant from the work of a doctor
biomedical engineers don’t go to medical school unless they want to be a doctor
engineering and law school I can’t speak as much about, other than law school admissions being quite challenging
makes sense for now i will just keep this idea in mind then and lowkey forget about med school cause i mainly care about acting anyway and just want to have a pathway for success even if that doesn't work out
with that being said any schools u think i should remove?
It would help if you knew a bit more about costs
do you qualify for need based aid, what’s the limit, etc
You’d ideally avoid loans
idk but my household income is around 170k family of 5 in mass
- As Macrophage pointed out, I don't think your career plans should change based on what school you're going to. People change their minds all the time, and that's not necessarily realistic to what you might/will experience with college.
- If you're interested in a program that has a good theatre curriculum, I would strongly reccomend you check out Wake Forest.
They offer scholarships for students talented in theatre and drama, which could be a major pull if you are looking for a school to give you aid. https://theatre.wfu.edu/current-students/scholarships-and-grants/
Their theatre is pretty strong. Its one of the higher ranked in North Carolina. The metrics vary strongly, obviously, but the school does offer a scholarship for theatre; thats something to think about.
I also think the school is a better target considering your stats and your goals. Their average SAT is a 1450 and their average GPA is a 3.84 unweighted. Another thing to consider.
- I would recommend adding more safteys to your list and decreasing the amount of reaches you have: it's better to have schools you'd be genuinely happy to attend compared to simply shotgunning T20s, take some thought into institutions (like Wake Forest) which might be a better match for your overall goals and ambitions
Wake Forest is making special efforts to assure that students from a broad range of family incomes receive the assistance that they need. Student Financial Aid provides full details and guidelines for applying for financial assistance. Presidential Scholarships Twenty renewable scholarships of $16,000 [...]
I know USC SCA is excellent if you’re interested in film acting. But film industry isn’t doing super well right now and the future in unshaky so only do it if you’d be miserable with any other career
By and large the “fun” careers like acting are the most competitive to break into due to everyone wanting to do it. On top of that fun careers also just don’t pay well. For acting specifically, if you’re ok with contract based work and would be ok with long stretches of time not working/looking for the next opportunity and if you’re willing to grind and network like crazy, then by all means pursue acting. But oftentimes the people who succeed in the entertainment industry have connections or are rich enough to know they have a safety net
Engineering isn’t just “building stuff” and robotics. Nor is the day to day of law anything like Pheonix wright. Make sure you like the day to day work of these professions, rather than just the aesthetics of the culture surrounding them.
Most likely you will not become a doctor. I don’t say this to be mean, but you have to be really in love with the profession to become one and stay one. It seems as if you don’t really fit that mold though.
