Location/Region: USA/ New York

Major: Computer science

GPA/Test Scores: I'm not really sure since I'm doing the IB Diploma, tho I think I'm averaging 3.0

Curriculum: I don't know yet, but probably some clubs would be a good start

Size: I don't really mind the size

Costs: Around 2k

Schools You're Currently Looking At:
St. Joseph
Minerva

Additional: Due to some familial issues, my mom recommended me to look for colleges outside of New York or at the very least, colleges where I could live on campus because of my "negligent" father. Also, she says that she doesn't want to spend a dime, tho im pretty sure she wasn't for real

Unfortunately I don't think there's a lot of options available with your GPA

whats your predicted IB scores? Are you a U.S. citizen? I know your mom said she doesn't want you to pay anything, but you should do a net price calculator for a few schools to estimate how much universities expect you to pay based on your finances.

Also if you want good affordable options, I'd look at Europe

ohh, that makes a lot of sense then if you're a U.S. citizen!

I'm just that average

Ok, that's fine! You'll just want to create a reasonable college list where being average could put you above average at a particular school and garner you solid scholarships. Are you planning on taking the SAT?

Will it some what increase my chances

And then what do you like to do in your free time? Are there certain hobbies that you'd want to be a part of? Are there certain identities/communities you'd like support for on campus?

I mean if you apply to a school that has a higher acceptance rate and your stats are above average, then yeah. It just means those schools are less selective. But sometimes they also have less money to give. $2k per year is really low, schools here minimum would cost like 10-20k.

Do you have any family who lives in the U.S.? Because where they live could maybe get you in-state tuition benefits.

If they're a parent or a grandparent

On my free time i usually do simple stuff like reading or crocheting

#

I've recently went back to learning coding too

#

Singing counts too right?

Ok, I'm not sure but you'll have to check the SUNY and CUNY domicile requirements to see if you qualify as instate, from my quick check it seems like probably not if your dad isn't your legal guardian.

Which meeanns you can apply anywhere but you might need to go for private schools that promise to meet full demonstrated need for admitted students or public schools with scholrarships

Ok no probs

#

But does it counts if my mom still lives for a while in the states even for a while and is a US citizen

iron marten
#

it would have to be at least a year before your start date

#

like 1 year leading up to your start date

#

but if she moves there, then usually yes you can get the discount after 1 year of attending, it would just be your first year you would have to pay as out of state

#

do you identify as black or african or african american? if so, would you be interested in attending a school that's historically black college/university?

viral monolith
#

Im African-American, and when it comes to historical context I don't rlly mind but it'll be pretty cool to go to places like that

iron marten

And then have either of your parents graduated from a 4 year university?
