you're overexaggerating the impact it has in admissions. Rice also doesn't publish geographic acceptance per state, so 2-3 is just unfounded. I know like at minimum 5+ people from most states in the gc. Geographic diversity is real but a super weak factor, other hooks matter much more. You can't offset quality with zip code, if the TX person is stronger they're getting in. Rice acc is incentivized to favor in state applicants rather than to minimize it.
