correct me if im wrong you need to do 32 courses (4 each of the 8 semesters) for a bachelors degree...a double major, say between math and econ takes up 22 courses. And then i take 10 electives adjacent/unrelated to my double major.....However, even those who dont double major need to do 32 courses over 4 years to get a bachelors degree right? so how is double majoring more stressful that a single major? only con i see of double majoring is that it leaves little space for electives you may be interested in

my understanding of this has come from claude and llms are quite unreliable so i may be wrong

20 classes in only 2 subject areas across 8 semesters is kind of a lot

especially when you consider your gen eds

you have to be taking major classes pretty early on

and there will likely be a point where you are only taking major classes

and even if you enjoy your majors that is a lot

i can lay this out specifically for davidson if you give me a minute

so at davidson specifically an econ major is 10 courses and a math major is 11. there are 7 ways of knowing plus the writing requirement and the JEC/cultural diversity requirements

an econ class will usually fulfill the SSRQ (social science WOK) and math will obviously fulfil the MQRQ (math WOK) so we don't need to count those since you'll obviously fulfill those requirements in the course of your major

it's possible that you'll do your JEC and cultural diversity in the course of your other ways of knowing or in your major classes but for the sake of this let's say you don't

so that's 8 required classes outside of the 21 you will do in your major

together that's 29 out of 32

if you're smart and you do pick WOK/major classes that fulfill JEC/CULT then it's 27 instead

if you were proactive and took APs in high school then (assuming you took the right exams and got good enough scores) then you can bring that down to 25 at the very least by getting rid of max 2 ways of knowing

for math and econ in particular you have a lot of prerequisites and lower-level classes that you'll have to get out of the way pretty early

and those classes can get pretty competitive and webtree is a fickle thing so you may or may not get the things you want every semester

all that means that your degree progression may well look something like this (where red is math, orange is econ, blue is gen eds, and green is electives)

plus or minus 2 gen eds or so depending on how you were able to apply your credits

that's a lot of major classes and you have to be committed to that fairly early on
