#All Liberal Arts Colleges (LACs) (2025-2026)
1 messages · Page 60 of 1
I mean it’s great I love it here
But I loved Carleton more
who is WE
Northwestern even if it’s garbage
to where bruh
Carleton food that bad
Is horrible

Don’t worry guys
Harvard
I survived on college food for like
balright
Yep
i literally intentionally didnt apply to ivies
3 weeks
And ate nothing else
Same
My sat isn’t high enough
i jst hate the culture
i mean I ended up going test opt but if I wanted test scores I woulda chased em
we all had less than a 1200
most LACs dont really consider scores that heavily so I just didnt bother
Nah I got a 1250 💪
Carleton excellence
mehh all it means is that im good at standardized tests tbh
Give that score to me
I had a 1530
When I applied to Carleton
Unironically I think Carleton values sat
Yeah their SAT ranges seem pretty high
Oh I’d have been cooked
Yeah 60 percent admitted students submitted test score
Carleton is one of the LAcs who value standardized tests
my stats were the weakest part of my app
my application was the weakest part of my application
1220
does anyone here know ab trinity university
i was wondering if anyone here either goes here or knows a lot about it and i was js wanting to know more ab the culture, experience there etc
Good school
the one in san antonio right? js found out theres a trinity college in hartford ct lol
prolly shoulda specified location
And what schools u got into again?😭😭
i learned that sat doesnt matter
all my best choices were test blind schools besides bu...
gpa will always unfortunately mog
Yeah
honestly it feels unfair, i wish the sat was more important
like at my school a 75% in apes is an A
Fuck that test
but in other schools a 90% is an A
how is that fair?
how is a 75% beingan A at some schools and a 90% being an A at other schools fair?
Gpa is always the most important
the sat is not perfect but it is signifiacntly more fair than the gpa which can vary soley from a schools grading system
SAT is bs
i do understand the sat not being perfect though
You physically can’t change my mind on that
i just personally think that gpa has more problems than the sat does
yes im not saying the sat is good either
but it is the lesser of two evils simply
That’s why context matters
sat grading system doesnt change basd on what school you go to. gpa does
colleges wont take the time to individually check every single schools grading system so its just unavoidable that ppl can get 4.0s with 75%s in classes
70% in ap phys 2 is A for my school while 85% is A for ap bio and its honestly kinda dumb
majority of my school has above 3.8 bc of this
That’s why class rank matters
my school doesnt do weighted or class rank
so nothing helps at my school
like theres ppl with a 4.0 but below 1100 and honestly thats just to another level
saxophones are sooooooo cool
Is it true that applying to an TO school without sat score will hurt u
because the sat is alg 2 cap while ppl are getting As in ap calc bc yet they cant score above 500 on the math section. this should not happen
My counselor told me if u don’t submit they will assume u got a bad score
I got into Davidson
That logic is false
I’m proof
I m not taking that shit again
not necessarily
I hope 1450 is enough for transfer
if they cared that much they wouldn’t be TO
Bro UF is a good school
Exactly
also i honestly don’t even think you need to TO for 1450
i think it really depends on the school
georgetown takes more ppl who submit sat than test optional
but that might just be bc those ppl who submit have a rllyyyy good score
Yeah
Yes it’s bias
personally idk if i like test optional. i understand that people are bad at standarized testing. but i think that they can put this in the additional information section instead of being able to hide their scores, just like how you cant hide a gpa and become gpa optional
a 4.0 and smth like a 900sat just doesnt feel fair for other students at all
if its grade inflation, thats just an unfair advantage
like if you have a learning disability and its impacted your sat score, you can say this in additional informationa nd the college wont hold it against you
but bc of test optional, the average sat scores at every test opt college goes up. this ruins it for everyone else as their own competition is harder and higher scores just dont mean anything anymore bc of test opt
I think the sat kinda saved me
I’m gonna choose not to speak
i have nothing against ppl who get bad scores, but it really hurts me when this makes a school's average sat go up
this means ppl with high scores just dont get as much credit. like for some schools the aveerage sat went up by 100 all because of this
My gpa and ap scores are kinda shit, it just basically tells college I m a B student, but the 1450 saved me
My friend got into Cornell with a 32
Not saying 1450 is a good score
I thought you had a 920
it sucks when you work hard for something but a college wont even recognize or consider it. it feels like your hard work is for nothing
and i just feel like test blind/opt discount the effort people put in
Yeah but I super scored it
No???
test blind?
you get a high score and yo uspend hours studying yet you cant even submit it
I don’t like test blind
okay
But test optional is completely fine
for test optional i think im willing to compromise
but test optional has raised the average score for sats
now people with high scores dont get as much credit
because imagine yorue in the 80% quartile for sat but it drops to 40% quartile?
Did she/he TO
Yes they do?
now it just makes your own application look worse than it actually wouldve
for people with special circumstances, why cant they just explain that in additional information?
i mean people say things like this but i'm not convinced this is a real problem
we dont have a gpa optional for people who have extenuiating circumstances for gpa, those people with lower gpas get a chance to explain. so lets make sat mandatory but have ppl be able to explain a low score
Dude my friend got into Cornell engineering with a 32, I think it’s essays
it honestly is when its grade inflation...like at my school a 75% for apes is an A but at others a 90% is an A
they are! not very much "band"like tho
Is her gpa like high
i recognize that my schools grading system is unfair towards people in other schools and im priveledged to have a school tha tmakes it so easy to have an A. a 70% in ap physics 2 is an A
this just isnt fair at all
4.0
grade inflation is such a bad issue
And it’s a dude
who are these mythical students who have high grades in high-rigor classes but have 25th percentile SAT scores
Me
a test optional applicant did not unduly take your T20 seat
are you gonna join the carleton symphony band?
im not saying the sat should be the #1 factor at all. i agree that essays matter a lot. im just saying i dont like test optional
Actually wait I have a 1250 fuck that
I think u have to show college ur somehow academically prepare, whether it’s through sat gpa or AP
Rigor
probably not, im not super good
but i really do love music
Good grades in rigorous classes
Yep
and i wanna try to make a band in college maybe
Exactly
People who say that make my blood boil
im not saying they did take my spots though
im just pointing out a flaw in the system that i disagree with
I acc need to lock in on genders
you should totally try doing it then
okay and i'm just offering a counterpoint
but i dont understand why youre implying that i think tset opt students are taking my spots when i did not say this
Why are you complaining about test optional kids then?
i am just saying that i believe we should keep sat requirements for colleges just as a way to counter grade inflation and unfair grading systems
it was a general you
because schools have different grading systems
you called it an unfair advantage
Ok chat I quit on the sat convo. I think u need to show college ur somehow ur academically prepare. Like u cants have a 3.0 gpa and 900 sat and 1s on APs.
schools with differnt grading systems have an unfair advantage
again my school has a 75% as an A in apes while other schools have a 90%. how is this fair? how can we rely on only the gpa?
Work ethic
a school having a 75% as an A while other schools don tis not fair. that is an unfair advantage. thats what i was trying to say. therefore we should require the sat
sat counters differing grading systems across schools
Admission is holistic, everything makes up the app
that was my pain point
they don't look at your GPA alone and close their eyes to all other data
they also see your transcript with your actual grades and with the grading scale your school uses
i understand this but i just really dont like how schools have different grading systems. i dont thin colleges take their time to look at every individual schools grading system either
admission offiers just dont have that time
yes they do that's their job 😭
im genuinely not trying to insult people with low sat scores at all or people who go test blihnd and im not trying to make it seem like that
im just bothered with grade inflation and unfortunately right now, the sat is just the best way to counter it. the sat is not perfect
the sat is just the lesser of two evils
what about individual class grading systems?
With that said a sat score could not break ur app.
i think you're making generalized statements that you lack the inside knowledge to back up
my school has a different grading system for every single class
for the record i do think there is data to support the idea that test-required admissions has its benefits
90% is A in others, 75% is A in other classes. how is this fair?
ive given my own examples and experiences of witnessing this. and ive seen my own transcript. it doesnt give the specific grading system for every single class, nor does it say that a 75% is an A for apes
but i do not think that TO schools are closing their eyes to very simple concepts like "some schools being easier than others"
but i think we can at least agree that we dont like test blind
im willing to agree to disagree on test optional
its just a problem in my own district where grading systems are way different for schools and classes
i did not really say that
and thats why i feel this way from my own personal experiences that ive witnessed
sry it was the other davidson person who doesnt like test blind. mb
I’m not against it but I do believe if you have a good SAT score, you should allow it to benefit you
I just found out the AP discord does lectures for students to prepare for the may exam
again for people with special circumstances like difficulty with standarized testing, they can use the additional information section with this
alr, thanks for the clarification
Chat come join me if ur also preparing for the AP exam
I’ve given up
again i dont have anything against the peopel themselves who go test optional, i just wish there was a better way to counter grade inflation and differing class grading scales and unfortunately, the sat is the best way right now. the sat is not perfect and i admit that the sat has multiple problems too
Lets study tgt
its ok if you guys feel different
ive just made this opinion based on my own experiences and what ive seen
If you can teach me calculus in a minute I’d consider it
Ngl for the past years I just watch YouTube videos
Maybe this year I’ll try something different
Since it’s my last year
I love Heimler history
I can teach u pre calc
💀💀💀
heimlar + amobea sistesr >>>>>
My teacher is giving me a test over spring break…
YESSS
I genuinely don’t think words can describe my actual hatred for calculus
I find it really interesting watching juniors and sophomores suffering through APs as a senior myself
Current standardized testing is flawed, hence the need for test optional. At the same time, much of that comes to a lack of standardized education in the states, hence the need for that. The problem is you can only standardize so far until things become out of touch with the local area.
It goes something like this: people who study solely for standardized testing won't do well (a criticism of AP at the college level as well), but people who can't do it all it also probably says something. The issue was there was too much weight placed on standardized tests, and I think eventually the scales will tip back in favor in testing, but probably in a reigned back form.
I got a 53% on the calculator section of the mock ap calc ab exam we did today
My hatred for calculus exceeds AM’s hatred for humanity
I think If u don’t submit ur sat u better have a good gpa and good APs
U need something to back up ur academic
im willing to be ok with test opt if theres a national grading scale put into place and schools r required to share individual class curves 👍
i would argue the SAT and ACT avoid the issue of standardized education by not including any subject-specific questions
i do thihnk the sat is more english based than it is math just due to the confusing wording on some math questions
the math section felt more like an english reading comprehension test to me than actual math skills since most of it was desmos
the ability to do algebra and comprehend a paragraph of academic text are skills every well-equipped high school graduate should have (barring learning disabilities etc obviously)
if the SAT had history or science or even advanced math like calculus or stats, that would be a different matter, but it doesn't
So glad I never took the sat
even the ACT science is just reading graphs which is another skill you should have
If I was applying for 26-27 I’d be so cooked bc every school is going back to it
Or most schools are
From what I've seen the ACT seems better at generalizing, SAT focuses on a few target areas that aren't necessarily represented in every educational format and that's always been a criticism of SAT
i do think that unless one has certain difficulties then an inability to get a roughly average SAT score is a red flag for a lack of academic preparedness
I think both are bs so
I hate the sat but thank god that shit saved me
i agree with this
Half my school has below a 21
the sat has many flaws
Well I'm referring to every selective school looking for like a 1450+
again, I think test required is coming back, but schools will likely place less emphasis than before.
The problem was majorly out of hand
well the average is 19
hmm ik more ppl with low sat than low gpa who got into selective schools
Yeah half are probably below that
I know at least 3 people with a 12
¯_(ツ)_/¯
because GPA is more representative of what someone actively engages with and their learning progress
wait but the UCs have you self report your own grades
how do the UCs know your schools grading system if its not a transcrip tthen?
they can look up the school profile
oh i see
i'm not saying it's a failing to get a bad standardized test score, just that if you are that far below average then you may not be prepared for higher education
i guess i was worried that not every ao would do this for every single applicant 😭 idk how much i trust an ao to really do this
yesss, it’s long term
HOWEVER if someone is pulling a 12 on the ACT there are likely other such signals
Sat is short term
yes this is why i dont like people being able to hide it
This
and again if theres other circumstances they can explain it in the additional info section which is totally okay
which is why i don't necessarily think that it's always 100% necessary to require testing
No fucking way someone just told me AP calc is easy and AP psy is hard
Son I m crine
If someone tells me that AP calc is easy imma fight them
nobody who earned a 12 was getting into harvard whether they were TO or not
I m never talking to any stem kids again
unless they fell asleep on question 3
i hope not 😭 this is what im scared of
it's just not happening
okay
I think the act and sat can determine if you’ll do well in a college, but it cannot determine how well at all.
12 is a 5th percentile score
meaning ninety five percent of ALL american test-takers (not all college applicants or admits, ALL students who take it) perform better
I think I know someone who actually got an 11
there is evidence that standardized test scores are a fairly reliable predictor for future college performance and that students with scores far below average may indeed end up worse off academically
which is why i understand why many schools are returning to test required for some or all applicants
but one size doesn't fit all and i don't think TO is an inherently bad thing for all students or all institutions
many schools have likewise found no impact on student performance with or without testing
it just depends on a lot of factors
Work ethic definitely plays a factor
The kids who work harder will always do better than the lazy ones
Ok chat
What are some things u should ask on admitted students day
Like some tips
Uhhh
Can I get by with doing absolutely nothing in my classes
Son 😭😭
this is answering alex btw
i'd like to solve the puzzle: no
what’s your biggest concern entering college
Well I hope my senioritis gets cured
for me i tended to ask about social belonging, some culture questions, and then about students with disabilities
Hey so imma steal this
go ahead!
if youre FG and or LI id also ask about that
Specifically the first and last
And this
Jotting this down on my doc
top LACs are all private and majority affluent
Yess!
some support FGLI students better than others
in the contexts i was in when asking all this i was at thrive scholars college fair (all of us were fgli) and at fly ins so it was kind of already addressed by the colleges beforehand
I notice a lot of schools have FG org that supports FG students
yeah those are the big ones for me
truth nuke
I’m going in a week so
Do not so affluent ppl feel pressure at a affluent college
That was my worry
i’m used to being the poorest person in the room
Or am I just being too sensitive
Gosh same. I had one of my classmates saying thrift is bad
define pressure
Like it’s dirty and things like that
people talking about moving houses lol how you affording allat
What is money
This makes me so mad
Like social pressure, feeling the need to be in the “affluent” group
a kid here moved from new york to los angeles to specifically attend my high school
like what
??
its a valid concern, especially if a school has a party culture or has social events that center around going out/spending money
It’s so expensive to eat out now days 😭😭
i definitely notice that a lot of my friends are much wealthier than me and occasionally i'll end up in an unfortunate money-related situation (like once my friend had her birthday dinner at a restaurant where the entrees alone were all like $25-30 and i had to just thug that one out)
i dont feel it much here at the 5Cs, we have a lot of Posse folks in my class (which while not specifically targetting FGLI kids, tend to draw them in to the program and provide full tuition scholarships) and QB people as well
but if you associate with decent people they aren't going to make you feel weird about it or anything
Wtf
i hope i can find my weirdos
25-30 is enough for a meal
😭😭😭
i got fish and chips for TWENTY TWO american dollars 💀
but you can definitely like, as chloe says, end up in a social situation where you end up spending a lot
with tip and tax ended up paying over 30
if you hang around affluent people
its funny bc this shit is so normal over here i dont even see this as that absurd
though this was also bc we split our friend's meal between us
lmfao california prices yea
At that rate I’d just say I’m not hungry
for a nice dinner it's not too crazy i just wasn't really trying to pay that on a random wednesday lol
no like for your avg restaurant those are normal prices
i don't like to spend more than like 20 on a meal (when i do pay for food, which is rare given my meal plan)
mid ass food for 25 bucks
I feel like that was also one of my concerns when choosing college, like I know I can’t be going to High point or Pepperdine
Yeah Fazolis was 30 bucks for me and my mom today
30 bucks for 2 people is impossible here
So worth it tho shrimp Alfredo is goated
that is pretty low i feel
although i think you could definitely make that happen here at a casual sort of place
like chilis or something
i think what also helps at Pomona specifically is that every campus resident is on an unlimited meal plan and 200 dollars a semester to spend on cafe items, so like you can totally just eat campus food everyday and not spend your own money going out
30 bucks for fish and fries is too much
not all colleges do this tho, not even within the Claremonts
tell me about it lol
it wasn't even THAT good
like it was good
but not $30 good
i've had better food for cheaper
yeah same here
I think it’s just cheaper when u cook on ur own
i'm fortunate that i don't actually need to spend very much money
Im becoming like way more concerned about friendships in college
we get $350 in credits on the basic plan
which is why i feel better about things like going out to eat sometimes
Btw, chat if u have ur college email be sure to use it for student discount
or buying stuff for fun
i don't have real expenses
my tuition is pretty much covered and so is my food
I don’t get this until next month 😭
i’ve been using my community college email thru DE to get student discount for a while
I want my Spotify premium back
so when i spend money it's because i want to not usually because i need to
with some exceptions obviously
WTF
yea same here
yeah it worries me too
My college requires us to buy meal plan
esp bc i expect my adjustment period to be really rough
I need that dinning hall food to be good 😭😭
anyways tldr about the money stuff it's mostly fine but sometimes you end up in interesting situations
Same
But u’ll find ur ppl trust
i went to a very wealthy private school so i'm kinda used to being in such situations so it wasn't as big of a shock to me as at davidson
but still it's interesting
thats most colleges policies for on campus students
It’s really scaring me because I don’t have many close friends here
something that always fascinates me is how often rich people do not percieve themselves as being rich
Like I have a hard time making close friends
I have no friends at school I have trouble connecting with a lot of people
Good damn that’s smart 😭😭
Cuz hs is small
yeah and i’m going to a liberal arts thats only a little bigger LOL
usually because they grew up around people who had even more money than them so in comparison they're pretty middling
Use ur college email. It’s only 7 bucks a month PLUS Hulu
Im pretty extroverted nowadays so i can definitely talk to people but making close connections have been hard for me in the past
Again I don’t get that until next month
Wait Hulu too??
Just wait one more month
people dont vibe with the way i am mostly
i have to find specific people who understand
Dw college is more diverse and better
Let’s all stay positive
i’m sure i’ll find my people
Same
I’m generally very chaotic
one of my reasons for going for swarthmore is bc when i was on campus i saw a lot of visibly different people and felt like i could find people like me easily there
It’s hard to find ppl that clicks with u
Like my dnd thing would be Chaotically Good
All my best friends left/moved away
i can be very flat but i also have trouble not going off on tangents and getting too worked up over things
My old best friend is probably dating my ex rn 😭
Oh I crash out over small things so easily and people don’t understand it’s mostly for shits and giggles
Well
cloud from this server knows her too
They always say they live a “comfortable” life when u ask them if they are rich
we live in neighboring cities
😭😭😭
Nah some of those things piss me off actually
Like when people take more than 1 juice off the share table during breakfast
Like no one likes you
I get genuinely so upset at things like that it affects my functioning
I had to stop using the breakfast line
I feel like some rich ppl is just trying to be humble
my friend's dad made eight hundred thousand dollars last year but she says she never really realized until her mom told her recently because her parents like to be frugal
I get overwhelmed really easily so it can be kind of hard to occupy a space with me especially if it’s a busy one
Can they donate to me
tell me about it lol
like i might just randomly lose all communicative abilities bc it’s too loud
but she's self-aware
thats kind of wild
Like 800k?😭😭 the number is too big
Are they looking for adoption
I didn’t read Frankenstein because the class was 8 chapters ahead of me
I got a 98% on that test somehow
Oh yeah I get u.
But still really stressed me out at first
i got ear defenders recently and bro how did i put up with this shit for so long
no wonder i was so tired and upset every day
I hate loud places
we dont really get fireworks here thankfully
YES
the best kind of rich friend is the kind that is honest about it and doesn't make it weird or make you feel weird or bad about it
honestly at a school like this i find that it's impossible to not end up in frienships with people who are far richer for you (if you're LI) unless you intentionally only move among certain groups
my gf trying to interpret my desperate incomprehensible hand movements
but like it's fine. just find friends who are well-adjusted and good people
sometimes they will say or do something that's like ?? 😭 but that's life
i just need to avoid becoming a lolcow again
find actually good people
i have trouble telling the difference
until it’s glaringly obvious
but i feel like i can have social success in college
I believe in you
I really don’t believe in myself anymore
But you got this man
I don’t really believe in myself either but fake it till you make it you know
I believe in you too
You’re really pleasant to talk to over the internet, you’re a good person
It is hard to find people that are like this, but I think u just need to dig. Another thing I realize is that if ppl only make friends who are in the same group with u it’s prob not so good. I think ppl should try to like make friends with all different groups just to see how things work out. There are nice ppl everywhere
yeah maybe it's because i have a lot of experience with rich people but the asshole ones tend to have an aura about them lol
not saying you should judge a book by its cover
but you get a sense
every time people say aura like that i think of like a glow around them that emits words
Oh yes fs
like PROBABLY ASSHOLE or PROBABLY COOL
This
like a 2020 tiktok pov
like the seven chakras
POV: when you turn 18 your net worth appears above your head for everyone to see
Also another thing is, real friends would not make u feel bad. So if they know u can’t afford expensive meals then they wouldn’t invite u to a expensive meal bc it’s going to make u feel weird and bad
bro ts took me like 15 years to learn
didnt realize that friends are supposed to be nice to u
then i started talking about my childhood friendships and ppl were like dude
It’s always a heads up that ITS GOING TO BE HARD for u to find ppl that clicks with u
And it’s fine
It’s like a puzzle
oh boy another puzzle
yeah i've had friends who've had the bad ending on this front
not at davidson but elsewhere
Worst part is it’s always temporary
i love puzzles
Real friends are priceless. I value emotions and relationship so much too
my friend was genuinely on her last dollar but her friend insisted they go out and then shamed her at the dinner table in front of other people when she didn't have enough to split the check
yes i have two people in my life who i hold very dearly
I used to glaze to ppl just to be friends with them cuz I don’t have friends at my school
oh dear
Id cry
I feel awful for her Jesus
but well let's just say there were signs of her character before that moment
so the moral is befriend good people lmao
obviously easier said than done. but that's the guiding principle
friend offered to pay for lunch at our next meetup i hope she follows through bc man i’m broke
I would leave immediately
Or never talking to them again after that meal
yeah they don't talk anymore
I love how my mom say friendships in adult world is just using each other and benefiting from each other,
So what you’re saying is that this lonely feeling isn’t gonna go away
for such a social species we can sure be mean
I think of real friendship as something rlly important
yes it will
i dont like how mean a lot of people are
All it takes is one real friend
i don't think this is universally true
and in college certainly not. i have wonderful friendships
sometimes it takes time to find them but great people are everywhere
This nagging feeling keeps telling me that I won’t make any friends
And I can’t get it to go away
Why does my self esteem have to lack this much
happens
Oh yeah. I hate finance major solely bc 90% of ppl in that field it’s hella mean and toxic
you just have to push past
why do you say that
Dw, theUF and UGA 2030 page always makes me feel chopped
I will never in my life post my picture on there
I can’t exactly put my finger on why
As Alex says
“I feel chopped”
i’m kind of funny lookin
Also there’s been like 5 guys on there total 😭
i dont care about my physical appearance that much i just care that i look clean
a lot of guys just don't do things like that. doesn't mean they aren't out there
Guys don’t usually post on 2030 pages
Dw it’s not a Davidson issue
It’s mostly girls posting
anyways 1) don't judge a book by its cover and 2) the people on that page are a very small proportion of the people you'll get to meet
i'm looking at the 2029 posts and only a handful of my current friends are on there
people will
Also I apologize for complaining this much
Don’t
do you think you're the first davidson student in history to be quirky lol
i don't say that in a condemnatory way i just want you to really think about it
i understand the fear. i also had the fear
i had some very close friendships in high school and i worried that i was never going to find anything like that again
or that i had forgotten how to make friends and be normal
but it's an unfounded fear
2000 people is a lot of people. unless you're a lab specimen there will be people who like you
I’m the complete opposite lol. I don’t have any close friends here and I’m scared it’s gonna continue lol.
I feel like that sometimes 😭
you're not
and honestly if you were then there'd probably still be somebody around here for you
you got this!!!!!
We all believe in you!!
Thank you all ❤️
you got that!!
wait lowk same
i struggled with making friends in hs and im scared it’ll be the same in college
i feel like part of it is because it felt like a lot of people at my hs already were friends in middle school so hopefully college will be a new start
I need this fresh start
Kentucky isn’t for me anymore
me too
we got this
and if not i can be your friend
W
still deciding...
Chat I m crine
I love how my AO is spamming me about asking them questions and going to admitted student event
And then when I acc email them they never respond
I m just gonna ask all my questions at admitted student day I figure maybe students knows more than AOs or counselors
LMFAOO
Everywhere I got in I went test optional
Fr
I’d say real but this hasn’t happened to me so
automated emails
</3
I m crying
Who wants to talk to them anyway
I would rather talk to a student or ask on Reddit
Why u choosing urich over grinnell?
distance, location, career programs, some other small things
im gonna visit both first
i alr have visits booked
Send pics in this thread

the consortium in MA is slightly weaker right?
i don't want to go to grad school
Smith

😭😭😭
Ur such a Grinnell simp
grinnell and i are married but grinnell doesnt know it
ive already rejected my mit full tuition bc im that confident that ill get off the grinnell waitlist
join me
(seriously tho you can’t go wrong with either, i think it just comes down to personal preferences like location, weather, etc. since california and massachusetts have very different vibes)
Is grinnell career program cooked?
grinnells career outcomes are great
apart from the fact that it doesnt have a IB pipeline like other LACs in its league
but the fact that grinnells in the middle of nowhere doesnt help its case
Hii everyone! Anyone else committed to Washington and Lee
@crude shadow
Omg
And this kids is what we call: an idiot
i hope shes joking this is insane grinnel glazing 😭
Nah Alex
I m deleting
I really hope that’s a joke tho 😭
No the dicette comment

How to effectively appeal financial aid why are they so resistant to giving me like even 10k more wtf
What college?
Amherst
Just had a call with a financial aid Dean did not seem too effective for me 😭
Sending them a mail today or tomorrow for the same will see what happens

Was a very off putting call ngl may not be able to go to my dream school now
Yikes
All that work to get into my dream school and not be able to go for a difference of 20k a year 😭😭😭
appeals to colleges that meet full demonstrated need are going to be tough
unless you’re appealing based on some extenuating financial circumstance
they’ve done their calculations and determined that you can pay that amount. whether you’d prefer to is not part of the question for them
even if from your pov that “preference” isn’t really a preference but a requirement
Personally I feel like there are circumstances and facts that do change what it should be, and all colleges online calculators that allow international students estimations have a significantly different figure for me. But amhersts calculator doesn't work for internationals so I had no evidence to back it up
Its fine now ig whatever happens happens worst case I go somewhere else with a better offer
@floral coral Carleton had a stats prof last year that was apparently not great at teaching and he got fired midway in his first quarter of teaching and they had a professor go into the class midway and I heard from people the class got a lot better
I think if the prof was at northwestern he wouldn’t have been fired for instance
Yeah this is pretty common at lacs tbh
Big unis don’t care as long as you publish lacs don’t care if you publish if you’re a shitty prof and the students don’t like you
Unless you’re tenured
there’s not really a public or perish mentality at lacs but it’s def be a good teacher or perish lol
which idk what is more stressful
both arguably bad…
We don’t get a cap and gown 🫠

all professors are in pressure cookers unless they're tenured, and even then it's often stressful
at an R1 the difference is that the pressure is to publish
so your teaching quality suffers whether or not you want to teach well
Yeah true, in big unis to get tenured is to publish and at lac it’s like how good ur teaching is
Number 1 lac in the Midwest fs!

Tbf tho my friends at Carleton who was at that stats class
Before that prof got fired
Were telling me that prof was trash
And like I think once the chair of the department went to one of the classes to observe they instantly fired him
😭😭😭
Ngl I'm lowkey in a dilemma
If my appeal for Barnard gets denied its not financially smart to go there
But I really didn't plan to stay in north carolina at all
I got into nc state and that's my 2nd option I'm just kinda bummed (not abt the school) just not wanting to live in nc anymore
Ngl I hate school
I do too
Omg
I got into the #1 school in the nation
Grinnell
Jk
I love how Grinnell still hasn’t withdraw my application
I emailed them twice
Heck nah
It’s ok, Carleton is always #1 in my eyes
It’s very strange tho, how such a great LaC is unknown compared to its peer
Who's it's peer
carleton's name in academia and grad school applications (pre-law, pre-med, pre-Phd) is quite strong
it's cause it's in Minnesota unfortunetly and like lac's aren't genuinly super well known in the public and Minnesota is even more unknown ig
st olaf and macalester are our rival schools
i lowkey miss carleton a lot
i think i'm heading back to carleton for sproncert tho
my friends said they would let me in cause every student can have 1 guest
sproncert at carleton is so fire i saw ricky montgomery live last year
at sproncert
email your admission officer
i had to do that for my loci and grinnell college admission office themselves never replied whiel my ao replied within around 2 days
Parchment
I wasn't following the thread did you get into Grinnell
waitlisted
but i did send in a loci!
i have made a promise where if i do get off the waitlist, ill buy the entire mod team coffees
Hey everyone! I’m currently on the waitlist at reed college and noticed some new sections popped up in my portal over the last two days. specifically, there r new upload slots for I-20 documentation, passport copies, and proof of funds.
I’m trying not to get my hopes up because I know systems update all the time, but I was curious... is everyone on the waitlist at reed college seeing these new options suddenly, or is this just a standard mid-April UI refresh for everyone?

DAY 13 OF BEGGING GRINNELL TO TAKE ME OFF THE WAITLIST
😭😭
Son I m crine
Guys can anyone pls review my reed essay
man I'm sorry
what's your 2nd option rn??
Bro they don’t even take waitlists off until May 😭😭
do you really wanna go to iowa over seattle damn
maybe they want to find parking. none of that in seattle istg and i visited udub
also the fog on i-5 is no joke
we drove from portland (was visiting reed) to seattle and midway through someone almost rear ended us
because nobody could see past the hood of their car
iowa doesnt have visibility issues.
how was reed
same
but i can't go
same
Dm
shit
yea
like let us enjoy portland
😭
I wanted a more traditional college experience with sports n everything so
guess it wasnt a fit
i meant 3.3 college gpa bro
no their college gpa avg
they are NOT stats heavy gng
all abt fit
Son I m crine
they arent stats heavy though. i got in with 3.6 but i wrote like i was possessed by shakespeares ghost
literally test blind lol
Dang
and like their '30 page lowk threw me off
howso?
idk how do I say this
Don’t look it up
like I'm not super liberal
What major did u apply to
philosophy
if i wanted music i wouldnt have gone to reed
Is that low?
10 graduates with a 4.0 since the 80s or smth
depends on what ur doing. but if u want T20 law school it's ass bc the LSAC doesnt discriminate between school they just show GPA and LSAT
Reed is a feeder into funded PhDs though
which is meh for me
nonetheless I would've found my community at reed but like
yeah but like i feel like 3.3 avg for a college is normal
I didnt see much social fit there
I think that’s why they are so hard
Katherine what schools did u apply to
do ppl use the term t20 for law schools lmao
isnt it t14 usually
and then like some decent regional ones like ND, USC, Fordham, GW...
Applied to Macalester EA, UChicago ED, UW RD (Informatics program), Geneseo RD, St John's College RD, St Olaf RD, Scripps College RD, and Reed RD. Rejected UChicago and Scripps, WLd St Olaf, accepted everywhere else.
i've heard people say UCLA is T20 law school
oh fairs lol
some dude at reed graduated with a 3.9 smth, got schwarzman scholar and went to HLS
bout to have the most ROI in reed's history
I mean its portland I get it lolz
SJC is awesome
I have my friend there who got into Chicago EA but couldn't afford it
living the life rn
Which campus? I'm from MD but if i go im going to santa fe because fuck annapolis and the naval academy
i would have applied to reed but i fear they wouldve hated me for being a neoliberal (theyre also far as fawkkk)
I have a couple but Amherst was always my top in the US. if that doesnt work out will prob go to the UK
Annapolis, he didn't recommend NM lol
ahh fair
hope it works out man
what did the dean say 😭
dwww i thought i wouldnt get anything on appeal from carleton bc they were super cold to me but then i got 46k 😭
im applying to trinity college dublin actually. ineligible for need aid in the us so theyre the cheapest option for me
just wait and see how it goes!
why u got beef with the navy tho
46k/year??
I'm waiting on colgate rn
mhm!
Uchi is hella short on money
theyre just pretentious af
Just stuff about investments and assets even though it wasnt the exact case
holy shi
They love full pay kids esp for transfer
its very nice...
Oh damn, thats insane! hopefully it works out😭
I think some schools might lowball u first bc of unpredictable yield
my debt for this year will be 5-10k and then itll probably go down after that
and then if you get back to them saying its your first choice and allat
I m crine 😭😭
theyre worried my dad will find a new job basically
they can calculate again
Oh damn that seems like a great option!
Yeah, I said that, ill send an email in a few days and see how it goes
they are AWESOME for philosophy
If doesnt happen then my choice becomes easier worst case scenario
pray for my Amherst waitlist too 🙏
would you mind reviewing my LOCI by tmr
Yeah for sure! Hoping it works out
Yeah ofcourse, send it whenever and ill see if i can help in any way
tysm
TCD is js cracked in general. Book of Kells right there, Samuel Beckett was an alum, Larian is headquartered there (I'm considering video game writing so internships), theres an actual direct connection between our airport and dublin, and it's EU so i can study abroad for cheap
but i gotta apply first
also ireland is awesome
my counselor had a short stay there for bible studies or smth and loved it lol
it's either TCD or macalester most likely. SJC maybe but only as a transfer pathway
yeah heard they're great for transferring out too
TCD will give you a harder time for Law School if you're serious abt it
Mac and SJC would both set you up well
law school isnt really the main goal anymore. my main plan is to get my bacc, most likely do a masters in the US for english or history, then teach in private schools
ahhh
doesnt public pay better in the US
I mean like if private means the philips academies and allat probs not but in general
def no. publics in MD pay like 60k a year for secondary school but independent schools like exeter pay 80k-100k annually
they both pay fine i guess?
it's the catholic schools that pay shit
ahh
80k starting???
rough ballpark
though u usually teach elsewhere first
with cheaper col ofc
ahh
I have like 5
- Ethnomusicology grad school
- Consulting
- Law School
- Teaching (public/inner city probs)
- Corporate
or 6. start a select shop
interesting
we got this man
I def don't wanna end up miserable going down the white collar pathway chasing clout
but the $$
- Marr an old lady and steal all her money
I need a quant baddie
Yes
neurosurgeon
YES
Good men are doctors
And quant
IB is not husband material
Profs or researchers are also husband material
random but is ames iowa or tampa florida a better spot for cs interns
i need to pick between usf and isu in 2 days
I thought you were gay
depends
in my area, the private college prep schools pay worse than the publics, and there's no unions
BUT
they get good benefits and the school environment is a lot more mundane
Yeah thats what I heard
Ahh
Let me in
Probs FL coz like name a major city in iowa 😭
😭
If only I was on the admissions committee
Even without leaves this is gorgeous
Hopefully the leaves start emerging in time for admitted students day
Is Dartmouth an LAC
That’s a good question
