You're right. I like to use the phrase need-sensitive. Williams is the only one that fills that bucket for internationals. Most other schools are strictly need-aware and have <40% of their internationals on aid.

Yep I am! Made it a core part of my application. I would say that religion probably plays a part in the final class shaping process. Notre Dame does have an unofficial 80% catholic quota that they’ve never broke below, so make of that what you will.

Perhaps it is. Nobody unless you’re the admissions office knows the exact numbers of non-Catholics and Catholics applying.

But I’d hazard a guess and say that the number of applications isn’t 80/20, but more 60/40.

I find it hard to believe that there will be 4 catholic applicants for every one non catholic applicant. With how prevalent shotgunning is, this just doesn’t seem realistic.

I actually have a different take on this. But it’s my own personal opinion based on my own personal anecdotes.

I think it does matter, to a decent extent. This is because I positioned my application and my friends to mirror and one up the previous admit to ND/Dartmouth from my school.

The previous admit to ND in my school was 2 years ago and he was kind enough to show me his application. So I broke it down based on academics ECs and essays, and saw what I could improve upon his. This was mainly in the form of ECs because he had a lot of school involvement which I felt was quite generic, so I tried my best to “one-up” him there.

For my Dartmouth friend, I compared him to the previous Dartmouth admit who was really cracked and decided to leverage on his FGLI to make his candidacy stand on level ground with the previous admit from my school. I knew that the previous admit had really good ECs so he really had to work on his essays to convince the committee.

In the end, we were both admitted thankfully.

Internationals seeking aid will always be an uphill better (sub 5% odds), and I placed all my bets on ND.

I planned out my whole candidacy for a whole year just for ND as well. So that was my best shot, and by the grace of God I managed to get in 🙏
