Personal statement and anything else you send them really. Williams is different with the lack of a supplement so it just makes everything else more important to write well

A lot of it is also applicants themselves, I feel we are pretty self selected, that we are applying specifically because we are interested in them

id say thats fairly accurate. we send a lot of grads to good postgrad programs especially in med. theres a big emphasis across courses on understanding history and social contexts to any subject

whereas CMC grads in biz econ often are set up to go into the field

idk if this is super relevant but my main critique of a2c and similar subreddits is the obsession over stats and rankings, and trying to quantify everything in the realm of college admissions, which I do think becomes pretty elitist and exclusionary, and there's a lot of stat shaming (especially in subreddits like chance me) and I think it kinda defeats the purpose of college admissions, especially at LACs that at least in theory care more about intellectual curiosity than pure stats/awards

Most schools are very easy to apply to

When I applied to the cal states I inputted my grades and my personal information like home address and whatnot and paid the app fee and I was done

No essays no interviews no letters of rec

When you’re applying to schools like those you do not need to join A2C

Everything is straightforward enough where if the application isn’t self explanatory enough a few google searches are likely going to cover you

High ranking colleges often have a more complex application process (such as essays and interviews and letters of recommendation) because they have more applicants to weed through and choose to review them by more than solely their grades and test scores

And stuff like that is often not self explanatory which warrants the use of places like A2C

There are aspects of A2C that aren’t inherently attached to high ranking colleges such as figuring out fly ins and application fee waiver codes and negotiating financial aid but many students are not introduced to those concepts if their high schools aren’t pushing them to apply far outside of their local areas

And it’s hard to say “well they could just google those things” because people don’t google things they don’t know exist

And when they did, it was mostly to likely schools in the south

UNC Chapel Hill, Georgia Tech, schools like that were really cool don’t get me wrong, but it didn’t have the vibe I wanted I fear

I had to go out of my way to apply for summer programs to find out information and resources that my school wouldn’t give me simply because they don’t really have much knowledge about QuestBridge and its process

i think a big part was that i was able to go to school with my childhood friends, i had been with them from K-8 because we all lived around the schools we went to, so naturally we ended up in hs together. the teachers (at least the ones i had) were all super tolerable so i looked forward to class every day because they were approachable people and at least kinda knew what they were doing lol. and i got along with a lot of people, of course it was a little cliquey and it took time to be familiar with new people in the beginning but the school population was pretty small so you run into the same people over and over again and everyone is connected so i was surrounded by friendly people who enjoyed having me around

actually there are seasonal flights from jfk to anc, but only in the summer (they’re starting bos to anc next summer, but i believe both start/end times don’t line up with break). however going to jfk/lga is not very convenient because williams only runs a shuttle to penn station and not any of the ny airports, whereas there is shuttle transportation from albany airport and logan

albany is closer to williams (1 hr drive) but it’s 3 flights, and boston is only 2 flights but it’s further from williams (3 hr drive). i went through albany for move in and boston for break and i think for me it’s probably more convenient to go through albany 😭
