I think that's lwk just grade inflation. Stanford also admits from certain private schools and international public schools that have weirdly deflated grade conversion methods, so they'd take "imperfect" candidates from those places. I don't think everyone* admitted from my high school's country (singapore) had a perfect grade.

mostly because to be perfect would mean to get a 45 IB or something similar (for every report card), which is tough even for people with high standards

id be shit out of luck if i still really wanted to do that

i get the rest of the open curriculum to do other stuff but still

even with like my current major there's issues with synthesizing different fields

like, i'm doing geobio rn and for the most part the ways to actually synthesize bio and geology aren't very good

my major is set up as "take these eeps course, then take these tangentially related bio courses" but there's not much to really bridge the two

for the most part with how the departments set up you're kind of only doing biomarker geochemistry

the last classes that did more to make it feel like both halves were together were offered like 20 years ago

fossil record classes hvaen't been here, classes talking about specifically environmental micro haven't been here, and the classes that are maybe similar will look mostly through the bio lens

like other big holes in certain fields are paleoanthropology/bioanthropology as a whole

my roommate last year had issues because he wanted to do theoretical cosmology and there wasn't really much he could've done here and was highkey thinking of transferring

bigass rant but for as much as i love brown and the open curriculum you do have to understand you're still limited by which courses you can take and more than most, brown is willing to cut back on depth because you have breadth

Exact same situation with me, two others from my hs applied ed to brown, one has a lot in common with me, same subjects, same grades, same recommenders and most of our ecs were done together but he has more research. But like it's out of our hands now we did our best and now we can just wait and see. Regardless of if it works out or no, will be okay. If you are good enough to apply ed to brown you'll get in somewhere strong
