UMichigan ED/EA Postponement FAQ (1/23/26)

welcome to hell! you can also use our #1448830292482719914 for deferral and waitlist talk from any school.

I applied EA. Why didn’t I receive a decision today?

Technical glitches with the portal. Not your fault. But Michigan claimed those issues are fixed now, so if you haven’t received an acceptance or rejection by now, you were most likely postponed. It seems the majority of applicants will be joining you there.

I applied ED. Why didn’t I receive a decision today?

Michigan keeps contradicting itself with ED postponement information. Based on the information gathered in our [December Postponement FAQ](#1400592583515832341 message), the only ED applicants receiving decisions today were those who got accepted during the EA wave. However, this does not mean you’re going to receive a rejection during RD. You may receive an acceptance, waitlist (yes, again…) or rejection during RD if you were postponed ED.

What does postponement mean?

It’s Michigan’s term for deferrals. Pretty much any info you see online about deferrals can be applied to Michigan’s postponements.

Is this really the end of the EA decision waves?

Yes. Michigan said today was the final EA wave on their Instagram and based on historical data I think they’re not lying on this one.

What should I do if I’m postponed during ED or EA?

I have the same info I gave to ED applicants in December, so if you already did this, there’s nothing more you can do. You can optionally (recommended) submit an Expression of Continued Interest Form (ECI) through your Enrollment Connect portal no later than March 1st. You will be given a text box to write up to 250 words to express continued interest, let the admissions office know about new achievements/awards, and/or share additional information about yourself. Your school counselor may additionally submit your mid-year report to Michigan of any grades available before Mid-February. Michigan does not accept updated materials outside of the ECI Form and mid-year report.

If you received an email from Michigan stating “we are certain we have enough information at this time to make a decision” that was their nice way of telling you to follow these instructions and stop sending them more than they asked for.

Can I be waitlisted even after postponement? 🫩

Yes, both ED and EA applicants can be waitlisted after postponement. If this ends up being your case, you’ll receive your waitlist decision during RD.

If they were not accepted EA they will hear back with an acceptance waitlist or rejection during RD

EA is completely over now

To add on they can be used interchangeably

If you’re talking to Michigan admissions they will say postponed but it’s just their word for deferral

So if you read anything anywhere else abt deferrals it applies to postponements

I assume they think it’s a more clear word than deferral but that doesn’t work when they’re the only ones using it

For example in the pinned faq I mention how Michigan has stated they won’t accept material besides the ECI form and mid year grades sent before a specific time

For my first supp I told a short story about a problem I saw as it applied to me --> how I saw that later in others --> a place I was a leader and tried to address it --> then expanded it to a more global perspective

That's not a formula it's just kinda how I structured things

And for the why us I definitely over thought it, but just find some specific things that draw you to the school (programs, majors, classes, clubs, etc) and connect them to something you did in the past or some personal reason you're interested in it at umich
