i think IS is a really nice major cause its really flexible

u can be CS heavy or u can go more business heavy

im an IS major and i did the same thing that i think u did (apply for IS instead of CS) but i dont feel the need to transfer into CS because i'll be able to fit in a lot of CS classes in my schedule and i think it also puts a lot of emphasis in how you can use technology for society which i think is important to know

IS specific classes are definitely not theory heavy but i think that also has its pros because it focuses on how to apply it
IS is in the humanities & social sciences school so we do have a bunch of gen-eds to do 🙁
there are plenty of ppl who get roles at google, meta, and other FAANG roles. we also get a lot of ppl get into Deloitte and consulting roles (Deloitte had an IS major specific event) if ur ever interested in consulting.
quant is definitely a much less popular job that IS majors want ☠️

in terms of quant they only care abt the skills so if u get cracked at cs/math outside of IS classes that might be good

btw IS curriculum is designed in a very flexible way so you can take non-major specific classes that u want

like CS classes

not sure about CS but generally comparing the ECE programs for UTAustin and CMU, there is a pretty wide gap education wise for pretty much everything, with UT being better for certain stuff mostly due to location

for IC design we are significantly better education wise, but this might be evened out with location

for comp arch UT is definitely better education wise imo, but even though texas is better location wise, CMU has a pretty direct pipeline for apple, which is significantly stronger

CMU doesn't have PCB design or some specific research fields so UT kinda just wins on default for some of that stuff

notably quantum doesn't exist (for ECE, for CS quantum algo are being researched), and there isn't much photonics here
