Yep the only thing that's different is Duke specifically wants you to identify at least one "personality trait" of the community that particularly resonates with you and how you'd also explore that on campus. That's at least what the "what is your impression of Dukes as a university/community" part is going for.

You can learn about that from exploring the website and identifying trends you notice of certain opportunities always popping up that you like , reading the missions/values, and/or talking to current students. But whatever you pick you should be able to justify why you're interested in that or also share that value.

The only other school on par is maybe USC but I’d argue Duke is better overall, then you have Michigan and UNC which are still great schools but Duke is also better overall

So if you care about sports but also want to go to a prestigious university Duke is the place

I’d also say another big pro of Duke specifically is name recognition in the south, it makes it a lot easier to get internships and stuff in NC and things that are close by, if you were at Stanford or one of the Ivies, you’re still competing with kids from other good schools UCLA, NYU, etc. but Duke really is top of the food chain in NC, so I’d argue it’s a lot easier to get internships

Mostly from anecdotal experience but the consulting pipeline is very strong in undergrad and if you follow said pipeline you can get pretty good internships at McKenzie, GS, etc.

I'm very biased but I love history and I think if you're interested or like it but want to pursue another career path, you should at least minor in it. There are tons of cool classes and wonderful professors at Duke and other schools that expand your worldview and teach you very important pre-professional and real-life skills. I think knowing history just makes you a more knowledgeable person in most regards too

The degree at Duke is pretty flexible, there are no required classes and everything is based on thematic or geographic concentrations that are cross-labled with other classes, the faculty are also very accessible, i've spoken with the DUGS several times about the major and history, etc.

Yeahhh that sounds like fear-mongering to me. Also unless a universities website explicitly says no AI at all, they're usually ok with AI proofreading and policshing for grammar which are the things you just mentioned.

The bigger red flag of AI essays is if the idea or experience isn't yours or the way it's written is not accurate to your lived experience. Or if the content is too vague and not personable. Or if there are incongruencies in logic or tone of voice when reading the essay.

Those could make an essay quality worse, but that won't get your application thrown out for most schools.

The first part of the question is to describe what is your understanding of Duke as a community. So like pick a trait about Duke that stands out to you. I don't think theres a right or wrong way to go about it but hopes this helps :)

i would advise against it

mention it on your essays, i guarantee you it will not make a difference and most likely will only harm you

at the end of the day, high school research is great, and duke is certainly looking for that, but virtually most duke admits have done research as good if not better than you, so it’s best if you spend time highlighting other things that make you stand out and a good fit for duke :)

be original and organic!! people are too afraid to be themselves on college applications. when you’re competing with 50,000 other kids, i think being original and yourself really pulls through. don’t put on a facade to impress the AOs, be genuine and i think that will go a lot farther than you’d imagine
