a lot of people talk about how the middle class gets trolled in college admissions because they don't get enough aid but don't have enough savings. interestingly enough, the upper middle class/lower upper class also gets trolled because they're the only applicants that are eager to pay more than the full tuition (donate large sums for an advantage). however, if you are a billionaire, your child may get accepted without any prior donation because the school simply wants the child of a billionaire. i think this is an insane take but alas. really everybody except the elites get screwed and i think perhaps that's life.
