i forgot to do sar and got rejected
if I apply to mathematics as my first choice major and cs+physics as my second major and get accepted, do i need to go to mathematics major or can i choose to go into the cs+physics major, im asking cuz i wrote a supp for mathematics as my first but want to change mathematics to my second choice major n dont wanna rewrite the entire thing again
You have to go with math
Unless you get accepted into the cs+physics program (you would first be rejected from math as they evaluate you based on your first choice major first)
additionally you can not transfer into cs+physics later if you choose to attend
ok thank you
wat
for second supplemental if applying cs + x, do i have to avoid saying my future goals/career stuff is just like software engineering
do they expect something super quirky
Makes sense, thanks
hi
this schools always intrigued me even though i wanted to move somewhere in the new england area because of their research opportunities... uh as a floridian, how will it be adjusting to this campus life?
I'm from GA
honestly adjusting to the midwest was chill
The first winter was cold af though lol
yes 💀

UIUC is one of my top 3 choices but I have a low gpa. Is it worth still trying or should I lean towards a safety instead
Define low gpa
3.56 weighted before first quarter grades
In taking 5 aps so it will go up
Im out of state
Economics or political science
I think you should be ok
econ and poli sci aren't that competitive
Has anyone applied to chemical engineering on common app
When I type chemical engineering in the place where it says “select your first choice major” it doesn’t exist
Does it happen to ask which college in the school you’re applying to first
On the myIllini application, all majors are listed alphabetically. However, on the Common app, majors are listed by college so you will find "Chemical Engineering" listed in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Our program is housed in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences because of its origins in the Department of Chemistry, but our students maintain close ties to The Grainger College of Engineering and benefit from resources, programs, and scholarships in both colleges.
yeah 😭 i was applying to grainger instead of las
ty for the help
Ok cool tysm
hey guys, i’m a senior applying to the statistics + computer science major at uiuc, and according to the university website, i need to demonstrate interest in both cs and stats. uhh, a problem is that i currently don’t have any extracurriculars relating to statistics. would you guys have any recommendations or suggestions as to what i can do before the early action deadline 😭
y=mx+b
its not like a double major with cs and physics so its acc rate is much much higher than pure cs. in terms of courseload it also less than a double major, close to a major+minor iirc. its less separated than a major and minor so for example cs+physics u will have ur physics be officially inside grainger instead of las.
im doing the same major asw
Does anyone know the stats of people accepted into arts and sciences school out of state
im looking to see if i can get in
Does early decision helps in UIUC admission?
Isn’t it only EA
i think public institutions don't reveal their out of state vs in state acceptance proportions
I just graduated from UIUC and the only information I got was the acceptance stats broken down by college every year
i think most public schools have a quota requirement for # of in-state students they accept, before they start to accept OOS or international
there's also a distinction between pure CS previously being in the college of engineering (ur diploma will also say Bachelor's of Science)
some LAS CS + X programs list that it's a bachelor's of arts
idt it matters that much but it's a bit controversial since CS+X programs pay the same tuition as engineering students even though they're not technically part of the college of engineering
(meaning u pay more since LAS is cheaper by like 1-2k than Eng)
Yess
If anyone has questions or wants feedback on anything, feel free to dm me. I'm no expert but hopefully I can provide some insight.
Sure I appreciate it
wow thanks, what made you choose cs + x? cuz im thinking abt it but idk
I would say I really enjoyed Economics in high school, and coding is/was my main hobby so I always like CS. I also wanted to broaden my horizons in case CS became way too oversaturated/AI in the future (I think it should be fine though). CS + X can also help you specialize in a specific concentration which could be useful for some jobs. I guess simultaneously broadening education while narrowing in on one as well
Does uiuc offer much oos aid?
Nah
if ur lowkey cracked u might get considered for merit scholarships
assuming ur applying engineering theres grainger so engineering level and also department level so my case matsci
👍 thanks, yes i am applying for engineering
I enjoy economics too especially how analytical and practical the subject is
hey all, i applied and i got an email to do like a password reset to gain access to my portal, but like i tried that and it says i have an invalid pin sooo what lol
i dont know if this is due to aws issues rn tho
nvm its fixed
How to answer the question of experience in the last 4 to 5 years related to major
Any tips for electrical engineering?
i did when i switched my computer to linux cause i had nothing else lol
UIUC Markiplier?
does anyone know if doing comp e first choice major and ee second choice major is too similar?
are u in state or oos
in state
ok then i personally wouldnt do it cuz they are so similar
40% for ee and 36% for compe in state according to something im reading but ts could be wrong + they r just similar majors in general, i think if u apply to something easier like physics as ur second choice u can switch into ee i think, im not a 100% sure but ive heard of people doing it. but at the end of the day it comes down to how much u wanna go there
i mean id get pretty good aid there cause its in state at least. also imo my ecs are really good for electrical eng so i think i have pretty good odds at it. also wait how can in state be lower than oos
i meant compe
36% for compe instate
oh ok. thats honestly not bad, i think im like avg/slightly below for gpa/test scores for grainger as a whole but for ecs im well ahead i think
how much lower r u from the average in terms of test scores
well i cant superscore at uiuc so its unfortunate
so if i dont go test optional itd be like a 780m 660rw cause i want to report the highest math i received i think
i see
gpa is like top 10% and school doesnt rank though
i mean yeah lowk it matters less than ecs n gpa
and was max rigor and stuff + multivariable calc, ap physics, blah blah
yeah u good then
esp with that instate
but if u really worried u can put down an easy second major from grainger cuz realistically if u dont get into compe ur not getting into ee and vice versa
its up to u in the end but if i were u i would do the easy second major
thats true, maybe ill do physics ill have to ponder. only like a week till its due tho
but yeah ill probably end up doing physics i think
damn
bc worst case i just transfer i think yea
i keep forgetting how close it is
hopefully nw takes me for ed
i dont wanna write any more essays
applied math and then maybe second major bio something
depends on school but uiuc im doing cs+physics
oh does it come out before rd
yeah like 3 weeks before
in state too?
yes
thats pretty fire
hey what if we are going to the same school!!
yeah its annoying how uiuc comes out p late for ea
that would be quite a coincidence
ive visited like 20+ schools in illinois so prob good chance ive went to yours for some ec at one point lowk
if you are in the upper half
yeah
of il
im a suburb too
interesting
near lake michigan tho
r u close to chicago
not in chicago but yeah close enough to where i can go whenever
i see
is urs near chicago
uc hicago
im like half an hour to like 45 mins from the loop
.
Can i self report my sat score or no?
yes you can. submit official scores only if you enroll
https://www.admissions.illinois.edu/apply/freshman/process#application
Ok thanks
guys should i submit my SAT score (1390 -- 630 RW & 760 math) to UIUC for major in Finance (Gies School of Business)?
finance at gies is pretty competitive, the middle 50% SAT is 1430-1520
https://www.admissions.illinois.edu/apply/freshman/profile
That being said, your application will be looked at holistically so other factors such as average test scores of classmates or maybe a compensating GPA can help your case.
will they actually consider the score i retake if i apply for EA (due is nov 1)? im retaking it in November 8
oooo i see. my grades are quite good. but what if my school has no ranking system? will they still be able to assess the average test scores of classmates?
Perhaps if you're deferred, though I'm not 100% sure about EA.
ohhh i seee, okayy thank you so much!
thank youu sm!
I guess what I mean by test scores is like the SAT scores of your classmates
for example if your school is competitive, 1390 won't look great
but if 1390 is like top 5% of your class, then it looks better than above example
essentially wealthier school disctricts typically score higher on SAT (resources, tutoring, etc.), so they don't want to discriminate by wealth
fake news btw this never happened
ohhh i see. so far the highest SAT score in my batch is 1390. but do they know the average score for my school? btw sorry for the late reply!
There seems to be disagreement about whether or not your school's average SAT matters, but I feel like that could be a factor of the holistic admissions process.
ohh i see, thank you so muchh!
is there an extra supplemental for the + x part of cs + x?
There shouldn't be. Treat the cs+x as "one major"
yes, they do, it's viewable in your admissions file
the AOs see it when reviewing ur application as well as average academic rigor score from your school (APs, DE, etc)
and gpa
ohh i seee, okayy thank you so much
can anyone read my uiuc EC supp, im kinda lost and need advice
feel free to send
can i share mine too?
For sure
sent
for the SRAR, when I input my semester courses, should I append the "A" or "B"? ie. H English 1A or H English 1B
however it shows up on your transcript
this is what I did, thank you
I’m assuming a 3.9 would be enough for their engineering programs correct?
For sure, though gpa alone isn't nearly enough to get in since there are thousands of applicants with high GPA. It's more of an initial filter, though it's usually never a guaranteed rejection if you have a lower gpa. Factors like ECs and essays are what typically differentiate applicants
So I’d be applying as a transfer student. I’m assuming with the GPA and Essay, the factor of being a collegiate student athlete would also play a massive role as an extracurricular?
I think athletics are good as an EC
i think being a student athlete is a great EC, cuz you can contribute to them outside class
and from what i have heard, gpa for transfers is much more important than gpa for a first-year student
Yeah ACT or SAT is barely as accounted for in transfers as first year apps
submitted
my mother thought it would be a great idea to tell me i should have waited to apply rd AFTER we paid and submitted 💔
Why wait for RD?
idek anymore
something about the money, which i mentioned to her months ago and she had no response to 😐
Could someone please help me submitt my required documents
From my understanding, this site implies that they dont require my transcript only my final grades
I believe you only submit official transcripts if you decide to enroll as a first-year student
"First year applicants will self-report all academic information including coursework and external exam results. Official materials are not considered or accepted at the time of application."
Ok thanks
Applications for transfers don't open up till 15th of january 😭
Wait I just submitted my self reporting grades, why does it say “complete for rugular decisions, you will find out in March 26th” even though I submitted my app early action before Nov 1 and I submitted all supporting materials?
Did/does it say this for anyone else
oh ok cool
thanks!
Hi yall in the Other Academic Information of the SRAR form, if I'm an international student who've been speaking my native language for my whole life and have never taken any foreign language courses in my life (except english), should I still put my native language there with the "4+"?
and btw do I need to report my 2nd trimester courses (we're in the 1st trimester)
I believe if you didn't take any courses in that native language then you wouldn't say 4+, but I could be wrong. I would email admissions to clear up any confusion though
yes, there's an in-progress option for later semester/trimesters
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcYFzCe1ZD8&list=PLk_H4szzb26lOD19Mgugfvmzzt8wK1ers&index=4
Thank you so muchhhh
No worries, good luck with everything!
oh and if my final grades includes my final exam scores, should I report that or just the trimester grades?
oh nvm ty
im so lost on srar
what do u do if ur school uses number grades 1-100 but has letetr grades but the key isnt on transcript
:sob'
Best thing to do is contact admissions, since every school is different
Also, the "key" should be in your school's profile, not necessarily the transcript
omg ty first concrete answer i was losing it
But again, it's case by case
yes i emailed but idk if theyll get back in time cuz its due in 2 days
ohhh my gosh bro yes thats what i was thinking
i was like why are they emphasizing it being on the transcript
Essentially just match the transcript as close as possible
in their guide video the guy siad "key is directly on the transcript"
-# i take things very literally i hate ambiguoity
Yeah it's typical but ig not consistently true
They (AO) definitely deal with this all the time so they can usually figure out as long as you match transcript.
When did you email
i just dont know whether to choose A-F or choose "other" bc choosing A-F forces me to put a letter but my transcript only shows numbers, and other lets u put numbers
today....
whoops
like 7 hrs ago
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckIxRx38ZbE
this video says "for reference. Please make sure to enter courses and grades exactly as they appear
0:13
on your transcript. The lone exception is if your high school uses numerical grades,
0:20
but an A through F conversion is listed directly on the transcript. In this case,
0:25
it's okay to enter converted A through F letter grades rather than numerical grades."
@small tendon
https://www.admissions.illinois.edu/faq/applicant-freshman
"What should I do if my high school doesn’t follow an A-F grading scale?
After you submit your application through the Common App you will self-report your courses and grades through myIllini, using a link we send you via email.
Within myIllini, Select "Other" as your type of grading scale and enter a grading scale/conversion, even if one does not appear on your transcript. Enter your grades exactly as they appear on your transcript."
Does this help?
YO
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I THINK SO ?
THANKS BOBJR
GOAT
bruh i swear i scoured the faq oops ig not
Haha no worries, good luck!
ok that makes sm sense
wait one last thing do i put the course names exactly how they are on my transcript
yes
bc like idk they arent gonna know what some of them are 😭 cuz its liek hella abbreviated
oh ok
thats fine
wait anyone else have an input why are other ppl saying to expand it
so othey know what the class is
bruhhhhhhhh
i see that meakes sense yea
it really shouldn't matter since the admissions officers will know every course available at your school via school profile
bro i have a genuis idea why doesnt my school just make the course name make senese
wait DEADSS?
i didntk now that dang
okie
that's how they can determine courseload/rigor based on what you had available
since rigor is in a sense relative to what is available to you
like one school may offer every AP while another offers none. this info is available to AO
is anybody else having trouble getting into their myillini account? ive been trying to reset my password but I haven't gotten the email to reset it
Check spam
i have a friend who had the same issue, hopefully you emailed ASAP
Is RD harder than EA
I subbmited my
SRSR too late
and now im in RD
am i cooked?
ur definitely not cooked
if you get rejected RD you would not have gotten in EA
that doesn't mean there aren't benefits to submitting EA, but in terms of admissions chances it's a minimal difference if any.
True it's the same with a lot of top public colleges like UT Austin it's better to submit regular decisions if you think you could've gotten a higher test score or better profile and essays. If you got rejected from rd you would've either gotten deferred or rejected from EA
yo guys
I self-reported all my courses & grades through commonapp when i submitted my application for UIUC, why is uiuc asking to self-report again through their myillini portal?
is this just what their process is?
yeah, you have to fill it out in order for your application to be considered finished
oh, whens it due?
"To be eligible for early action admission, you must submit your application by 11:59 p.m. CT on November 1, and all required items must be received by November 7."
https://www.admissions.illinois.edu/apply/freshman/dates
Unfortunately the window has passed for submitting early action items
oh shoot
wait so I have to self-report on commonapp and myillini portal?
I believe so
On the bright side, you now have more time to refine your essays and EC's
yeah and im oos anyway
I'm dying for the transfer application window to open
Anyone have any familiarity with the urban design/planning area ?
I’m gonna ping people who have mentioned things that imply they’re applying here but haven’t joined this thread bc it seems people aren’t as aware of threads this year
I’m also gonna try to avoid pinging people more than once (although there are a lot so I may accidentally dupe) even if they mentioned multiple schools save for if a thread is fully new just created
So even if this thread isn’t relevant to you take this as a note to go search for threads for other schools you’re applying to
If you want a list of all threaded schools so you know which to search for check this sheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E_ouXTZaSKZIqZiMhrLtxaF_wJfvcXcshWgrKdSZUqs/edit?usp=drivesdk
Or request threads that don’t yet exist here: https://forms.applyingto.college/f/megathread-suggestions
this is by far the least joining group yet (as in i have the most to ping)

ya im applying here EA in state
same
gl
sucks it comes out in January
tyty
coolio
thank you boss
i applied as a finance major 😭 🙏
damnn
i heard yall can drink there at 19 ???
you can enter bars at 19, but not allowed to drink
when can we expect to hear our results
Early Action: January 30
Regular Decision: March 6
to be fair they had 83k applicants
this was last year, which was a huge applicant spike for all colleges. I think it may be less this year due to Trump international policies and birth rate drop in 2008. Either way, don't worry about the numbers too much, you'll end up in the right place 🙂
my school's a UIUC feeder basically but I have a subpar GPA so its just up to fate
yeah it'll be less (honestly you'll be fine since you're an a2cer and assuming you're not cs 😄 --> im cs im abt to get rolled)
im premed but i decided to hell with it and applied bio..engineering uh.. to grainger... im cooked
bet
wait is it true that birth rates dropped for the '26 cohort? cuz if ppl r making babies less during the 2008 financial crisis, wouldn't the impact show 9 months later, i.e. the 2009 kids (the cohort after this)?
im js confused srry 😭
Oh yeah I should’ve pinned dates we’ve known for a while
UIUC Decision Dates
-# Displayed in your local time zone.
EA: <t:1769810400:F>
RD: <t:1772845200:F>
Highest number of births ever recorded in us history was 2007, then started decreasing every year after that. My comment was not so much about a significantly low amount in 2008, but rather a significantly high amount in 2007
im a 2007 child applying this cycle lmao the school dates did not line up (october)
lol yeah i guess 1/3 of 2007 kids are '30
why are cs + econ admit rates different than the college of liberal arts?
UIUC admits by major, rather than college. So all majors will have differing acceptance rates.
that's a good start, other important factors include course rigor and essays
are you in-state?
I think essays are 10s ngl for uiuc
what are average cs + econ stats applying
not sure what you mean. Like stats?
i don't think they release per major
Yeah but is cs + econ more comp
Grainger College of Engineering
GPA*: 3.89-4.00
SAT Score (no writing): 1480-1550
ACT Score: 33-35
I'd imagine it's similar to grainger average stats, perhaps on the lower end
alright
if you're interested I can dm you about my application, but imo it's not super useful, especially since you've applied already.
it's within this range
i did the ferpa thing leme see my application records
they do have computer generated scores that "autoadmit" kind of
even for oos
and engineering
i was lowkey dissapointed cuz i wanted to see comments on my essays and shit
i did ferpa and got to see comments
this semester
did you meet with a person or was it online?
in person
i got some "code 097" on my file and that was it
huh that's weird
some AOs just dont write a lot
had a couple comments on my file and that was abt it
no like mine actually was no comments
that whatever person just said the computer determined that u were code 097

and somehow that translated to admit
97 means admit ig but the AOs have to code u that
idk lol i didnt think this was an actual thing
65 is like 2nd major or smtn and 90 is reject
huh
just thought it was interesting that they have like a computer system that kinda makes decisions
maybe for outliers in the pool or smth
i dont think they have an alg for it, i think it still gets reviewed
also i got a 98 if thats notable, idk what 97 means
uiuc has an autoadmit program?
no
STOP LMAOOO
oh, based on two a2c reddit posts i've read before, uiuc does compute an index from 0-100 (i think, not sure what the max is) by using an algorithm to compare you to all other applicants in your school, major, and college school (e.g. Grainger) regarding your average GPA and SAT.
(one of the posts states that the range is 0-95, but since some people here have 97 and 98, that's obviously not the case)
here are the two posts i read:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ApplyingToCollege/comments/yek9ox/i_read_my_uiuc_grainger_cs_admissions_file/
https://www.reddit.com/r/ApplyingToCollege/comments/x95dlk/i_viewed_my_uiuc_csstat_admission_file/
not sure if this is talking about the same thing tho
that would be even funnier because compared to other ppl in my school my score would have been signifigantly worse
when is ea coming out?
January 30th
lol, could it be that your scores were also significantly higher than other applicants in the same major then
y muts i wait that long
idts then it would lowkey be a really useless metric
in comparison to other shit that they could look at
¯_(ツ)_/¯
holy crap why are uiuc aos so harsh 😭
"don't like [their] writing style" as a grounds for non-acceptance is crazy
wait also do yall know if there's a difference between As and A+s for UIUC?
in HS transcripts
it is what it is lol
iirc, i don’t think the uiuc srar (self-reported academic record) differentiated As and A+s when entering grades, at least for me.
my school doesn’t have A+s in the first place
i lied, you are allowed to enter A+s on the srar if your school has that. i don't think that the difference between one A and one A+ would be the determining factor in whether you get into UIUC tho
It is more likely that As and A+ would be more for differentiating grades among students from your own school, since different schools have alternate grading scales.
What if I’m the only one applying from my school?
And no historical applications there either
Unlikely that any non-AO would know, but I would assume they would compare you to your school's profile.
https://counselors.collegeboard.org/counseling/advising/school-profiles/sample
who has 97? 97 is the internal code for admit (not related to index) so maybe it got mixed
i got a 95 so im p sure thats the max but maybe it goes higher
hi is this confirmed already?
ohh, yea i just misread lol, i assumed you guys were talking about the index too
it’s probably 95 since the reddit poster also said 95 was the max, they were probably given the range by an AO
yup
okii thanku sm!
np
i was the one with 097
idk bru i wanted SOME kind of comments on my essays or whatever bru
gl yall
im suffering here
but i think thats just bc grainger
idt they comment much on essays, i didnt get anything on my essay rather just on my general application
yeah just checked my notes and the range was 0-95 for AI, idk if you could get 0 though so there's probably some minimum but thats not as important
ohh, so the 0-95 range doesn’t have anything to do with your high school stats, but rather measures how much you used AI in your essays?
what
what’s does the 98 here represent then?
and the 097? 😂 i assume the 0 in front of the 97 is intentional. 97 is also greater than 95
What the ao told me was the 097 is a computer generated score which was reccomended admit or smth
And someone just pressed yes
thank you, fingers crossed🤞
ohh okay
academic index in this context
status (98 is accept)
so the 98 and 097 are separate from the academic index?
would they be separately generated scores for admission recommendation?
i didnt know what uiuc was and applied for fun
😓 i should have worked more on my application oopsie
can they hurry up 💔💔💔 omg
for cs+education is the application reviewed by the college of education or engineering?
any current grainger students here? how's the gender ratio? i can't find a clear percentage, but it's not looking great from what i'm reading online 😭
is it as bad as (or even worse than) purdue
CS + X is a degree from your X's college, so Education
Seems like 3:1 for Grainger
https://www.dmi.illinois.edu/stuenr/#race
how cooked am i for grainger if i didnt apply ea 😔
prob a lot cooked if being honest
fair enough
how hard is it to get into UIUC for RD as an oos… also, I think my major (physics) is in CoE, so idk if that makes it even more difficult or if it’s fine since it’s not explicitly engineering
yeah lowkey CoE is pretty heard, but lowkey i'd say it's not that much different than EA
should be fine for physics cause not crazy competitive compared to some of the other engineering majors
Grainger is very competitive regardless, but if you get rejected RD then it's unlikely you would have gotten accepted EA, and vice-versa. If you're a very strong applicant I wouldn't stress it too much.
Same thing ^
Technically I'm not in Grainger, but I did get in during RD round if that gives you some hope
I think this is generally true for a lot of schools but I don’t think for uiuc
EA is like a huge advantage for engineering here
hmm ok nevermind then
Why does my major have to be in the engineering college 😭
I’ll try to have some hope 🙏
I hope I get into Grainger for aerospace bro 🙏🙏🙏
You’ll get in fr, trust 🙏
nah grainger SIGNIFICANT edge to ea
Guys what’s the standard or minimum UW Gpa for Eng OOS at uiuc
I’m worried but I’m full pay good ecs and good essays so idk what I should expect for ea
3.89 is the 25th percentile for all of Grainger so likely a bit higher for OOS
https://www.admissions.illinois.edu/apply/freshman/profile
Does UIUC superscore or no? I’m still confused by their sat policy
They say they consider the highest subscores but isn’t that technically a superscore
Got this off of reddit which explains pretty well:
"What that means is that they will see…
1520 (best single sitting score)
790 (best math)
750 (best english)"
https://www.reddit.com/r/UIUC/comments/1gat05y/confusion_with_sat_policy_suggest_which_sat/
They won't count it as a 1540 composite, but will consider your highest sub scores for other matters (ex. Grainger may care more about math than English)
Ah okay that makes a lot of sense
Thank you! I’m mainly more nervous for my English cuz it’s a 730 lol my math is good tho
so my highest single sitting is a 1500 with a 760 math but on another test which was a 1460 i got a 770 math
in terms of admissions would that mean they will consider a 1500 composite and a 770 math?
cuz my superscore is 1510
im so fried for uiuc biology + undecided second choice when i see these stats
Yes
Note that biology has lower average stats than Grainger mentioned above, so it's not over
Who went test opt and got in?
does anyone here know what the hypixel ping at uiuc is like? 😭
I lowk need to know this
heard the hypixel servers are located in chicago ts is very pressing information i need to know
#1 "why uiuc" reason ngl
This is such a valid question
You play bedwars?
yeah lmao
does uiuc have that sweet succulent single digit ping 🥺 👉 👈
as somebody who lives downtown chicago (about 90 minutes away from urbana) here is a graph of my ping
54ms max and avg single digit is the typa shit i see in my wet dreams 😩
How many stars you on?
depends if ur ethernet or not
my friends have 7 ping league if that helps, i think i got like 20-30 or something but i dont use ethernet
also playing hypixel in almost 2026 is generational aura loss
bro can they just release ts now
just aura farming
would they alr have been done reading our apps and making decisions atp?
"our" i meant just my application bro
dam i get 8 i want that 1 extra ms 💀
1ms is why i feed
idk what hypixel uses but if they use AWS u can prob expect it to be somewhere around 6-8 cuz league also uses AWS chicago
some dorms have ethernet ports that you can request to activate but idt they r much better than wifi
i have one in wassaja but i need to put in a request to get it activated or smth
if i took CC courses not on my hs transcript, do i have to send them through parchment to UIUC while applying or after getting in and enrolling? im so confused at these policies
UIUC wants you to self report scores
So I'd assume they'd request the official transcript only after getting in
yes, what ayman said
dd
UIUC wished me a happy birthday xd. I'm putting extra effort into their supplementals
how catastrophic to my application would it be to include this
It wouldn't do any good
If your grades are bad, they can see that you struggled to get good grades in that class
would it make the AO chuckle a little bit at least
i feel like a lot of aos dont look very carefully at what grade corresponds with what class
Idk i'm not the person reading ur application
did you chuckle or were you unamused
The AOs are short on time if anything they wouldn't care
Eh
i'll delete it
Its a good pun, just not useful ykwim
If you have a bad grade that stands out, they definitely look at that
i dont have anything below a B-
i have a B-/B average in my history classes
Then there's not even a point to mention it
Would just be shining light on a grade that normally probably wouldn't get looked at much anyway
does uiuc admit by major or school
major, atleast the case in 2021
so once you get in it's kind of hard to switch major?
like do you recomend choosing something so you have a higher chance of getting in that still works with your application profile?
Yeah it's major
Do what you want to study the most. Switching difficulty depends on your current major and the one you're switching into, so difficulty varies
Usually not too bad if you're already in the school of your new major
Harder to switch into Grainger from non-Grainger for example
so say i wanted to do computer engineering should i do an engineering same school i think no one would pick?
I would advise you to apply computer engineering since that's what you want. There's never a guarentee that you can switch into CompE, especially since it's one of the most competitive within Grainger
what would you say is not that competitive. i'm open to a lot like nuclear and i know uiuc business is good
the good programs are typically the most competitive
you could do like engineering undeclared and then declare computer engineering?
but the thing is, both with switching between majors and doing undeclared is that you're wasting a lot of time on stuff thats not your intended major
so i would just recommend applying to what you are interested in
i thought your chances decrease if you do undeclared
okay i will do this, thanks

acceptance rates for different engineering majors
hope this helps
is non resident out of state?
yes
okay thanks
eh, probably not, i also think just looking at numbers wise it looks that way but a lot of undeclared applicants have weaker profiles as well which may explain the lower acceptance rate
ohh
yea that makes sense
should i just put the highest acceptance rate as second choice then
just put something you wouldnt mind doing in the event you cant switch
okay ill do this thank you
What abt chemical engineering since its in a different school?

CHBE has admit rate probably similar to those majors
i didn't get it yet they sent me an email saying it will come in the next few days
son we all getting in
trust
ngl i kinda wanna bring back yeild protection cuz yall see the accepted vs attending?
i did
when is uiuc ea descions coming out again?
hm?
jan 30
% that got in and out of that % how many actually go
basically bring ED to uiuc
Did u email them or smth
no they sent an email to me this morning i didn't send anything
it basically just said they have my application and file and they will give portal soon and make sure to do financial aid
I didnt get anything like this wtf
do you want me to copy paste the email
Yes
Thank you for applying to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign! We've just received your application from Common App.
Note that it may take a few business days to load into our system. As soon as it does, we’ll email you with details on how to submit your Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) to complete your application. Be sure not to create a new application; you'll just need to enter your coursework and grades directly into our SRAR.
In the meantime, we encourage you to review our application process to make sure you've given us everything else we need. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our office.
Thanks again for applying to Illinois!
oh it wasn't about financial aid it was about srar 😭
I might have to email them
Still show's submitted
ill check what it shows for me tmrw
what happens if i only have 1 year of foreign language courses but i speak chinese fluently at home-
theres a 2 year foreign language requirement
i dont think it applies because it isn't a class credit
there is a proficiency exam you can take
^^^
make sure you do the proficiency test and not the placement test because they're two separate things
its on your portal a button to do srar
I dont have my portal bro
do oyu have other majors?
then just chill, it takes time
I finally got it bro im so hapy
i still didn't get it 😭
when did you submit ur app
3 wks till EA
isn't it 2?
idk jan 30
oops your right sorry
ohh i was thinking of uf
soon
hurr durr i am uiuc admissions i can't read the commonapp i need to be told the grades again
and they could at least accept stars 💔
the humble northeastern:
if i have a course that is seperated into first and second semester but I took it over the summer what should i put
i just put it as 1st and 2nd
oh wait no i put it as summer
but just duplicated it
as long as it sorta matches
ah okok
what course type do I put for PE and Sports
is technical just like stem classes?
oh ok
how hard is it to get accepted into uiuc?
like besides acceptance rate is it like you gotta have cracked ecs or cracked academics?
any point suvmitting upsdate
depends on major
well acceptance rate is more or less tied to what you said
both
in their internal tool, they compare you to average stats of others from your major/school/chosen college
for the courses section, are summer courses considered from the grade before? (for example, is the summer after 10th grade 10th summer or 11th?)
does uiuc have a priority for instate applicants??
Yes
aw man
its lowk not even a big advantage
im in state but i think for some majors oos is literally higher acceptance rate
does uiuc care a lot about stats more than like essays/ecs then?
if theyre using a calc
kinda? it's hard to say really cause im not an ao
i heard like the aerospace AO said they barely use sat scores in admissions, and if they do then they only care about the math part for grainger
they didnt write anything about my essay in my admission file, and said like basically my academics were good enough to be admitted
yeah
the advantage is pretty big
they also said essays they only really check to see if you know what youre talking about (like you actually can tie yourself to the major)
x
why are majors like electrical higher oos though
theres other confounding factors
like if you're oos you're less likely to have heard about uiuc unless you've researched your colleges
whereas if ur instate pretty much everyone applies regardless of app strength
oh so in state just a lot of people that apply with low stats or something?
and oos just higher stats people
or sm
i mean ik some poeple from my school that applied to electrical taking like precalc rn so thats seems kidna cooked icl
probably
what state r u from
il
oh
yea
then yea
privates arent gonna give me aid cause my scenario is weird
yeah, instate tuition + finaid is good
divorced parents?
nah
i have a twin that will be in college which helps a little bit but
oh idt uiuc considers it
my parents are both retired and they have a super low income which seems good but kinda high investment
i see
it's just whats on the fafsa
wait after you get in uiuc asks for more forms before final finacial offer right
cause i dont think fafsa asked for everything from me
and uiuc didnt ask for css
fafsa literally didnt ask me for investments information i have 0 idea why
maybe cause low income
im sure theyll ask for more official forms after though
i mean
idts
idk how the fafsa works but uiuc isnt gonna ask for anything more than the fafsa
hm ok
well i mean i didnt lie on the fafsa or anything
but it just didnt ask me that question
you're in a good spot then
guessing that makes you qualify for illinois commitment/promise
but then itd be super low cost cause it doesnt show investments though
yeah it would
idk that seems a lil weird but we'll see i guess
like i think if investments were factored in itd be almost full or close to in state cost
if you get either it's really worth going lol
yeah true
i mean even at the price i was expecting its still worth it
so worst/best case its fine
last sem i paid like $800 for everything
yeah
i had scholarships on top tho but even without the number is prolly like
pretty low across everything
the actual cost of attendance is inflated by like other stuff they account for
makes sense
like they factor in that you'll get the most expensive meal plan +$1400, $1200 of books and supplies (have yet to pay for anything), miscellaneous expenses
oh wow
bro $1200 in books 💀
whos even using books now
i thought uiuc uses like online ones
and ones that they own on their website
smart illinois program as well
kinda but some classes have um
they make you buy the textbook and use the exclusive online code that comes with the textbook
😭
professor gets a pretty penny i guess lmao
i dont remember lol
though im pretty sure theres some incentive there
they prolly are if they doin allat
otherwise most professors will just give you the textbook as a pdf for free
yeah
wait also is it true that some classes
you ask questions to professors through discord
thats what ive heard
yeah, thats pretty much my classes
lmao what
in cs225 at least (dsa) theres a #lecture channel and you can even ask questions live as the prof is lecturing
is it cause big lecture halls or no one wants to speak
both lol
damn
oh idk the lecture hall is def big, cs225 is a class with over 1000 students so
thats crazy what 1000 people
introductory cs classes have even more ppl
doesnt fit into a lecture hall so the class is like entirely prerecorded online
r u taking any non cs things rn ?
yeah, it gets smaller as you get more into it
i have like 1 non cs class this sem
some honors gened i have to take
uhhh probably
i should be set to get my bachelors in two years total
then i might stick around for my masters
wait so 3 years total?
smtn like that
how wtf
did u have a lot of credit going in or something
from aps or dual enroll
both
damn thats pretty cool
also nobody will tell you this but if you have a lot of credits you can get more federal sub/unsub loans you just have to ask finaid for adjustment
idk how much credit im gonna get from mine cause only took aps but theyre mostttly stem related so
should prob check the ap transfer policy
oh damn is it a lot
most of them just say i can skip to a different class or smth
or get out of an intro course i think
i got an extra like
57% in federal sub loan $3500 -> $5500
thats op
i wonder if other colleges do that too
ill try to remember that tho thx
mhm
yeah
aight
well youll just have to know how many credit hours youre transferring in
thats prob gonna be like july or whatever but yea
0-29 is freshman
30-59 is sophomore
60-89 is junior
90+ is senior or smtn like that
and the loan amounts increase as you go up in the credit standing
also aps can fill in a lot of ur gened grad reqs
which means all in all you can basically then have the liberty to take whatever u want
uhh
prob not if u got a 2
or smtn
i think even if it doesnt count towards graduation it counts towards class standing
well like according to https://citl.illinois.edu/advanced-placement-ap-credit-2025
i think i should have like 40 or something then
so i would start as a sophomore?
in standing
wdym
well like, if you had to take freshman intro classes because you didnt credit out
then you still need to take freshman intro classes!
eh, it depends on your program
you need to fulfil your graduation requirements
and that depends on like what credits you transfer in and how they relate to satisfying those
like for an engineer having ap physics c + calc bc + etc is more useful than like
apush (transfers for nothing) + ap seminar/research (transfers for nothing)
true
from my understanding for cs/cs+x which is my field you can reasonably graduate in 3 (which is the only major i have info on)
is there also a way to test out of stuff
yes
like im taking mvc rn
you can take proficiency tests
but its only thru my school not dual enroll
incl. stuff like calc 3 (multivar)
yeah
does that mean i need to remember everything over summer
it's scheduled like
cooked
at the start of sems both fall/spring
i guess specifically idt the test was that hard
you need an 80% i think to pass?
i broke my foot in like mid-july so i just studied calc 3 for fun in like 20 days and i got a pretty good score on the prof test
yeah i mean idk what their mvc covers that my school's wouldnt so prob would require a bit of studying either way but ill def try for that
lmao
r u doing lalg rn?
nah, next sem
i have some classes stacked up this sem + other commitments so i wanna take an easier schedule
right
switching into popular majors like ce might be a lil competitive
i applied ee but i might wanna change
to like meche honestly
or aero
idk yet
id wanna see after first year ofc
well idk
i think you'll be fine
maybe not after first year
but like is the process like reapplying kinda
like usually from lower->higher acceptance rate is easier
nah not really but u can be rejected
is it easy to switch from one cs+x to another cs+x
meche gotta be lower acceptance rate than ee
ik people who have done that reasonably easy but prolly just depends on your situation
alr
admittedly idk much about the process, ik that cs -> cs+x is pretty easy tho (like you basically just have to email the department)
ofc thats easy cause
cs is like the most comp
yeah cause theres probably like 50 people that wanna go from cs+x to cs 💀
ig should be easy cause its all in las
not me
cs+x is an easier program in terms of satisfying reqs so it's nice in that regard ig
im not doing cs but if i did i feel like id want expertise in some other area imo
can you not take more cs
you can
you just dont have to, which is useful if you dont really want to do a bunch of random stuff
ah ok
how do i list CS courses in SRAR
ee to ce is easy cause both are in the ece department
not super hard from what ive seen, it's doable if you pull the grades
noted ty
Uiuc ee got so much aura holy
I applied hopefully I get in
it's all because of the ece120 lead ta
good luck
120 is a ce class
👹
me too
how hard is mech eng to get into as international
bump
yechnical
usually very hard compared to in the us or in state, since uiuc (i think) prefer in-state
doesnt mean that you shouldn't
Stupid question but is swapping between the UIUC CS+Xs easy? (as in youre alr in one CSX but want to switch to another)
Applied for CS + Bioengineering
Im just not sure about bio after a recent exam 😭
should be fine from cs+x to another cs+x provided u meet reqs
sup
how easy is it to transfer from undeclared engineering to cs
you cant
you cant declare cs or cs+grainger from eu
bro dont let a single bio exam dictate your major
if u applied for bio u probably like bio for many other reasons aside from that one exam topic
I mean yeah fs but I want the option to decide yk
Most of my ECs are bio/med related
Cool but are there any problems bc cs+bioengineering is in grainger while the rest are LAS
I think cs + phys is also grainger
it’s much easier to switch from grainger to LAS than the other way round
this is cooked
now we wait ahah
did u apply for cs
bruh i shouldve applied as a cs+x but i did undeclared engineering
no i usually dont apply cs
shit i did that too
undeclared engineering 😭
undeclared eng?
the acceptance rate is much higher tho
u sure?
yeah
also i have like 0 engineering ECs
i think 40%
essays were good tho
compared to like 20% or less than that for a specific engineering major
cs+x is like 15% i think
i mean if everyone thinks that
i have only applied CS to my state school
where r u from
o u dub?
yeah
they have a rlly good cs program
nah
eng?
whats HOD
oh ok
i mainly applied statistics everywhere
yeah good choice
cs is way too competitive
i applied as a physics major
im not doing CS tho i like stats a lot
for all the t20s
usually at private schools u can change asw
yeah for sure
it's not that hard to switch out unless it's a state school
how many t20s did you apply to?
i think 16
oh wow thats a lot
yeah im hoping at least one lands 😭
i hope one of my bottom two rows lands
ohh
a bunch of fee waivers + some i just applied on website
oh no updates? ok thx i wont bother
yeah unfortunately
i did update umich and gt, but they haven't responded to me
why are so many decisions coming out jan 30th lol
michigan coming out maybe 24th ish... still worth it imo if you can. GT comes out the 30th so maybe you can try? not sure if either take LOCI's after deferral
huh? UMich?
wasn't it jan 31st?
by jan 30th, historically, it has come out before
oh dang. they gotta commit to one date lol
yeah its rough ahaha
did u do UMich EA or ED?
I did EA
i just scrolled up and saw that on ur list lol. Good luck!
wait does ur school not cap how many schools u apply to?
Thanks 😄 hoping for the best
no it doesnt
oh damn
Pretty sure that's their last deciding factor
Big publics j don't have the same time
Higher for EA
I applied asw j for a reach its like sub 2% for intls 😭

Does anyone know how hard getting honors college and scholarships are
kinda stupid that theres no honors essay
didnt get in, but the purdue honors essay was a nightmare tho tfym 1000 words
james scholar is like pretty non-selective i think, you can either be selected, or if your gpa is 3.5+ or higher during ur time at uiuc u can elect to join
