If you’re a dependent it’s based on your parents

The UC has to believe you and your parents (if dependent) or just you (if independent) do not have intent to leave the state after graduation

A few other things too iirc but intent is the most major theme

Part of that includes the 365 days prior and you can only be out of state for 6(?) weeks a year

They’re gonna look at if whoever determines residency changed their stuff like voter registration and drivers license to California

My dad is currently trying to get out of CA residency but still keep our place here but live near my grandma in another state for majority of the year and part of what he’s done is changed his phone number to be a local area code of my grandma’s area in addition to the other things

it's cool because you're exposed to working and living w/ every type of person from everywhere. you realize that everyone is very different but still very much the same. I expect college to be like that to a lesser degree.

and when I deployed I got to experience visiting different countries so you're worldview gets expanded.

professionally I grew up really quick and had to be responsible for some serious tech. had to be knowledgeable, accountable, be able to lead and receive, be that guy.

the work is very soul crushing. obviously this is my personal experience particular to my job and circumstance. high tempo + poor qol + low pay relative to what you do = much sad. not to mention the separation from friends and family.

tldr: very hard, very rewarding.
