imo people kind of overexaggerate the whole thing about no narration at all, I personally just reused my essays from common app and other college supplementals and made them slightly more concise, without removing very much of the stylistic stuff
obviously take that with a grain of salt since that's just from my personal experience, and it can vary by person
but imo it prob shouldn't be so cut and dried as to sound formulaic
