Schools: Purdue vs UIUC
Intended major: Mechanical Engineering
Similarities: Similar rankings, cornfields, shitty weather
Costs: Purdue: $42k, UIUC: $65k
Purdue
Purdue Pros:
- Lots of resources
- Really nice makerspace
- VIP program is interesting
- Plenty of clubs and design teams
- Lots of research opportunities
- Frozen tuition
Purdue Cons:
- Have heard that math and physics is not great
- More gpa deflation
- FYE, ME is not guaranteed (I think I'll have above 3.2 GPA though)
- Tf is a boilermaker lol
- Not great for non-engineering in case I end up hating it (doubt)
- Cooked M/F ratio
- Have heard dorms are worse (?)
UIUC
UIUC Pros:
- Good recruiting
- #1 FSAE supposedly?
- Ranked slightly higher for ME (US News)
- Credit/no credit option
- College town (don't care much about this at the moment/know what the difference would be)
UIUC Cons:
- More expensive
- More of a party school? (Although I don't think I'd have time anyways)
- The logo is ugly (but I think it looks nicer than Purdue's on linkedin)
Tiebreaking considerations:
- I'm interested in grad school afterwards so a school that will help me get into a good grad program > a school that is better for industry
- Cost alone is not really a deciding factor
- Anything else that I haven't listed (I'm OOS and haven't heard a lot about either school besides researching online)
