Schools: UW, UC Davis
Intended major: UCD: Data science; UW: Statistics, or Applice and Computational Mathematics: Statistics and Data Science (damn i lost a year of my life typing that mouthful)
also i want to double major/minor in atmospheric sciences and meteorology
Similarities: Large Public School, excellent programs for DS/Stats
Name of School 1: University of Washington
School 1 Pros:
- It's fucking Washington bro. Hella cool place.
- T10 for Data Science and a ~T5 for Atmospheric Science
- Sports culture is amazing
- I have a lot of flexibility in the college of arts and sciences so if i want to change my major it'll not be THAT hard
- I know Seattle is a HUGE tech hub so I can definitely try to get an internship
- PNW weather is scrumptious 😋 (i like rain
)
School 1 Cons:
- Far from home, Seattle is very new to me and I know only two people who go there
- Expensive (~60k a year, 20k more than uc davis)
- Might be too crowded so classes might be harder to get
- Idk about the housing situation there
Name of School 2: UC Davis
School 2 Pros:
- Davis DS is decently well known in Silicon Valley
- Decent sports culture, nice walkability and bikeability
- I like the campus
- California weather
- In state (Cheaper) (~40k)
School 2 Cons:
- Large so it might be hard to get classes
- Central valley can get hot
- Can be competitive
- 50/50 about housing
- Internships might be a bit harder due to location, though I love davis' location
Tiebreaking considerations:
Cost maybe, if i can get enough scholarships to drag UW's coa to 50k my parents will be less skeptical, right now they're slightly inclined towards davis
Addendum: I DONT KNOW 😭 I like the architecture of UW ngl
