Location/Region: I would love a college in an urban/city environment. Not looking for colleges in red states for personal safety reasons. I currently live in Ohio, and I am definitely looking to get out, preferably somewhere northeast or on the west coast!
-
Major: Molecular Biology/Public Health double major, but i will literally go bonkers if i am able to go somewhere that offers a specialization in infectious diseases and/or immunology within a major (i am an aspiring pediatric infectious disease physician)
-
GPA/Test Scores: uGPA 3.84/wGPA 4.33, 33 ACT (uGPA is low because of medical issues soph year)
-
Curriculum: As previously stated I love the science of infectious diseases. Any place that places a strong emphasis on these courses or offers a specialization within a bio/public health major would be AMAZING!
-
Size: I would love small class sizes
-
Costs: At max my family can pay around 10k per year, but my parents would strongly prefer a full-pay or nearly full-pay college that does not include loans due to the financial burden this would put on my family.
-
Schools You're Currently Looking At: UCincy, Ohio State, Case Western, Cornell, Penn State, URochester, NYU, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, GWU, BU, Brown
-
Additional: I’d love a campus that is in a predominantly blue area as previously mentioned. As an LGBTQ person I really value personal safety considering the current political environment. I also love places that have large gothic-style libraries! Having some large body of water nearby would be amazing but it isn’t a dealbreaker. I love cold weather and really don’t like hot weather, so the farther up north the better!

Ever looked at Amherst
UMass Amherst sounds good for u I think but do conduct further investigation urslf
But 10k is not enough without scholarships though
their pathogenic microbio program sounds awesome!
cost definitely seems like an issue though
I’d say definitely be prepared to apply to a lot of scholarships but I would definitely look into Amherst!
umasa or the LAC?
Umass
They are OOS
Check the scholarships such as gates or others, sometimes ull figure it out
Btw umass amh has a great cafeteria and their housings r not bad as well
sounds good thank you!
tufts?
As someone going to amherst this year, I don’t suggest Williams
Williams great school but location will cook u as its RURAL RURAL
amherst has pop of around 60k+ so it’s perf for all the opportunities
Williams has like 2k people in the town 😭😭😭
And it’s got like a small ass clinic 15 minutes away😭😭😭😭
i see
i’ve heard heard the name a few times will definitely check it out
I would definitely apply for Questbridge if possible.
In terms of schools for public health/ID, I would look at Tulane and Emory.
If you're involved in a lot of medical volunteering activities right now, you could consider applying to some bsmd programs
my family is just slightly above the QB cutoff and i definitely am not up to par with bsmd stats but thank you for the suggestions!
if ur slightly above by u mean ur 70k
or something
i’d still apply
if you still had finaid hardship
because there isn’t a cutoff more so
prove you were in a struggling economic situation
i had friends w that amount
get into the program
