As a sophomore girl at UCLA, I am quite saddened by the lack of North Campus girlies who are interested in South Campus girlies. The divide between the two sides of campus isn’t just academic—it seems to extend into social and romantic spheres as well. While North Campus is filled with art history majors sipping their milk lattes and debating postmodernism, South Campus is drowning in stressed-out STEM girls who spend their days in Boelter, frantically solving problem sets and wondering if they’ll ever see the sun again.

Perhaps the underrepresentation of North Campus girlies willing to appreciate the charm of their South Campus counterparts is due to many factors Maybe it's the stereotype that STEM girls have no personality outside of coding and lab reports, or perhaps it's just the sheer distance—walking from Bunche to Young Hall is basically a pilgrimage, after all. But I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. My fellow South Campus girlies must be suffering in silence, yearning for an humanities or social sciences major to analyze their text messages with poetic depth.

1, it's basically mandatory cause it's going to be basically impossible to enroll in classes otherwise. Most of orientation is really boring (I literally fell asleep) but there are some fun parts.

2. They hold slots in classes for each orientation.

3. You would sign up for it at orientation. Caveat for clusters, they do save one ge but they are noticeably harder than your average 80% a ge. Unless you have a ton of classes to take it might not be a bad idea to reconsider taking them.

4. Iirc it opened in early September.

5. Assuming you submit by the rd deadline, by late may. We got ours 5/28

1. You should 100% go to orientation! Not just for the social aspect (you make soooo many friends cause this is when people will be the friendliest) but also because they reserve specific spots for freshman in every class so you should go if just for that. I had a fantastic time at orientation and met so many people, many of which I’m still good friends with today! I’m very glad I went and forced myself to be social

2. Yes, it’s true but you don’t need to be worried about that but they receive a proportion for every group based on the majors present. For example, if 50% of that orientation group are cs majors, then they’ll save a proportional number of spots vs if 10% were cs majors, they’d save fewer spots since the proportion was smaller.

3. Highly recommend clusters! You sign up during orientation as one of your classes. Just tell your new student advisor that it’s something you’re interested in

4. It opens before you start school in early September. Honors is kind of bs though from what I’ve heard

5. I live on campus yeah and I got my decision in June/july iirc

Most people are saying GT has better placement into big tech/notable tech companies than UCLA but im wondering where this assumption came from bc it doesnt look right from the data.
Here's the data:
UCLA undergrad Computing department: 1300 students -> 325 students per year (Check school demographoics)
Georgia Tech undergrad computing department: 3600 students -> 900 students per year (Check school demographics)

not sure about ucla vs. case western. it might come down to which better fits your needs (location; # of premed courses accounted for in your major, if applicable; student organizations; campus scene; prestige if you care-- medical schools probably will, but ofc gpa & extracurriculars matter more)
