Hmm I just finished the lower div bio and chem series (so gen chem and ochem) and IMO it’s not bad at all lol, but it really depends on how you space out your classes

I’ve taken two “harder” STEM classes + 1+ “chill” classes every quarter and it’s worked out fine for me, this quarter I spent around 15h/week on studying and probably another 15-20 on extracurriculars (research, volunteering, clubs) which left me plenty of time to do whatever (and this was my most difficult academic quarter so far)

My major is known for having easy upper divs though, so I can’t speak for that part

I will say it is the quarter system, a lot of kids get f’d over because they procrastinate or aren’t ready to roll day 1, you need to stay on top of it or the workload will actually be insane

Lower divs are mostly fine, can be a little iffy (LS7 series, our bio series, is known for having weird exams and chem 14C/D, ochem, is obviously gonna be hard; physics 5 can also be hit or miss) but I’ve found it fine so far. You need to be ready from day 1 on the quarter system, stay on top of things, make sure you’re studying effectively so that you’re not wasting time and you should honestly be fine

For research, you need to cold email. Most people will send 30-40 cold emails before getting into a lab and that’s okay, just keep emailing and follow up a week after if they don’t respond. I did research in a lab in HS so it only took me 4 cold emails im guessing since I already had experience + a publication, but you def don’t need xp, just persistence

You will get into a lab if you’re persistent enough

Anyone who complains about not being able to get into one is either writing terrible cold emails or not persistent enough
