Samesies Oberlin is so goated

There are 3 kinds of East Coast LACs:

1. The Classic Pennsylvania style college. Very heavy on promoting diversity, having cool opportunities, and for whatever reason have really good science programs, but despite that the only students who apply are white people from Penn and surrounding states. Rarely do they have anything that’s truly unique about them though. Gettysburg for example.

2. The Northeastern Vibe schools, always have super awesome campuses. They are very upfront about all of their curriculum being social justice oriented, and they usually have one defining program or trait. Every student is LGBT by some metric, it’s p much predetermined. Colored hair is the standard. Also, every woman that goes to these schools is stupidly attractive, but also lesbian. Vassar, for example.

3. The Southern Not-Even-Gonna-Pretend to be diverse school, usually quite selective, and a place where Ivy rejects with rich parents tend to go. Surprisingly, not much ranking games. Greek life is the norm by a long shot. They aren’t openly conservative, but very student is at least in private. Architecture is usually colonial style. However, they somehow manage to make some kind of crazy program- these are the kinds of schools you look back to and are like “damn I shoulda applied”. Wake Forest for example

In what ways is Vassar isolating? I’m looking at Bard and I’ve seen lots of people say the same thing. I’m curious if it’s more so like the location is super boring/nothing to do/no one around, or socially isolating within the student body, like hard to make good friendships? Not sure if that made sense haha, but my biggest worry in college is making solid friendships tbh

kinda a combination of all of this tbh. poughkeepsie is like really boring for most people (it’s fine for me since there’s somewhat of a hardcore scene here and in new paltz), there’s a lot happening on campus but most of it’s kinda eh, and like if you don’t have a friend group it is a bit hard to get into one sometimes, people tend to be cliquey.

if you make friends most of the time they will be solid though, i had a good group of people i knew coming in and i love all of them very dearly

however my friend group at the start of the year kinda suffered, don’t be stupid and commit friendcest or whatever. my current friend group aren’t the same ones

i had like one coming in here through people i knew and then i made the one that broke off coming in after and during orientation

also DO STUFF IN ORIENTATION WEEK! don’t just stay in your dorm when somethings not happening

that’s like the best and easiest time to make friends

most classes are discussion based though so it’s not super hard to make them especially in smaller classes

i’m in mostly lectures this sem so it’s like :/ but i already have my friend group so it’s fine lmao

your freshman friend group will sadly probably break off a bit you’ll lose people

i think i’m fine since most of my friends are sophs+ and we’ve known each other since before i even got here though
