that’s true for UVA but not VT, from what I’ve seen and heard it’s easier for VA applicants and applicants who live in close states to get in rather than people oos. I went to their open house day last year and the lady guiding us talked a lot about how their review wasn’t just about grades and stats, tbf I was doing it under arch before i changed to engineering but i’m sure it still applies. they also said something like, if the applicant would fit in with the overall “vibe” of the community. VT is said to be more of an open and chill environment than UVA. Also a lot of it comes down to major, majors like CS and engineering are more sought after and have a higher application rate

well nothing in particular but i actually asked in this server whether i should apply to vtech or umass as i had one common app slot left and everybody said vtech

apparently the campus is really nice

and it's generally a good college

Tech is a really good school for engineering, and it's super competitive, so congrats on getting in!! Tech is in Blacksburg, which is a super isolated town, so keep that in mind. Overall, if possible, you should visit the campuses before you make your decision.

I don't really know that much about their scholarships, but I will tell you that I'm in state and my total cost after aid is still about $19,000

However, I know some people that got much better aid to the point where their total cost is less than 10k

you'll lose the money you deposit to confirm enrollment to vtech but

Virginia tech is better for engineering I think but both are good

they're both fantastic schools, I do think virginia tech's engineering school is regarded slightly better, but UVA beats it in terms of prestige

it's also worth noting UVA offers CS as part of both their engineering school as well as the school of arts and science

the latter would give you a B.A. (bachelor of arts) in CS, as opposed to a B.S. in CS

shouldn't make any difference career wise

(and, to that end, neither will either school--you'll have fantastic career outcomes from either program, they're both stellar)

apply to both, and pick one based on whatever school you like better.

you've still got some time. if you get into both, attending the admitted student events, talking to people who attend, etc can help contriute to your decision

you can start applying to additional scholarships that aren't given by the school, or make use of whatever scholarship portal tech makes available to you

although realistically, I'm not sure that's going to significantly reduce the cost unless you win something major

(and it doesn't seem smart to bet on that, given that the commitment deadline is soon, and most scholarships will probably release following that)
