Just curious
does Amherst do appeals? Amherst is gonna cost my family 29K while Hamilton only 20K
is it possible that I can negotiate with them to match (to some extent at least) Hamilton's offer?
yes
worst case scenario they say no
so it's worth a shot
I'll have my mom call on monday ig
or maybe I will at school who knows
gotta see what to do
thats crazy
💀
cuz amherst is 2.7k and hamilton is 7k+
williams free tho 😋
email the financial aid office
any amherst people know if its fine to cancel ap exams after being admitted
i know its probably not a big deal but just wanna be extra careful 💀
Yea I cancelled an AP exam after my acceptance
Was supposed to take AP french but I saw they don't accept it so I just cut it off
Didn't even tell them
if I get scholarships, will they hurt my aid to Amherst, and can someone explain their loan policy (they didn't offer me any loans in my financial aid offer, but its kinda weird bc I can still apply for them? idk)
i can't say with certainty but i believe if u get scholarships in the end you'll likely be paying the same amount
someone can correct me if i'm wrong though
Amherst acceptance rate dropped btw, just checked
class of 2029 was 7% acceptance
class of 2028 was 9% acceptance
2029: 7% acceptance rate, 15,818 applicants, 1,107 admitted
(1107 is not the official number, simply 7% of 15818)
"This year’s group of admitted students hails from all 50 states, plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and Guam, and 40 countries (in addition to the U.S.). Significantly, there are at least three record highs for the admitted class. The class of 2029 received 15,818 applications—record high #1—for a pre-waitlist admit rate of 7 percent. Among the admitted students, 25 percent identify as the first in their family to attend a four-year college, the most in modern memory—and record high #2 for this class. Record high #3: 35 students were admitted via the QuestBridge National College Match, through which Amherst guarantees a grant covering the comprehensive fee for all four years."
so, remember to pat yourselves on the backs, fellow potential/future mammoths
this does make this year one of, if not, the most competitve years for Amherst. More applicants than for class of 2026, with proportionally less getting accepted than 2026
I saw the 25% first gen and I couldn’t believe it
Such a nice direction
amherst usually accepts 1200 ish
Amherst is truly a W college
let me in...... let me off the waitlist.......
doesn't mean itll go to me 😔
will make sure it does 🫡
🙏 really hope so . . .
unless an ivy takes me im going to my safety . . .
Does Amherst charge aggregiously for parking
I'm debating getting a car if I go to Amherst bc the nearest Orthodox church is 20 mins away from campus and idk how the train system in massachusetts works (I'll need to learn obv)
I don't think they charge for parking at all but I'm not sure 100% bc i don't drive on campus
Can you send me the address of the nearest orthodox Church? I'll tell you if it's reasonably pvta (local bus system)-able or not
Note that freshmen specifically need special permission to keep a car on campus but idt it's super strict, I know someone who got it just by being an annoying dickhead to the parking office for long enough
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 410 Main St, Holyoke, MA 01040
(closest one, there's others in the same city tho)
Ok yeah there's like one bus that goes directly there from campus but I wouldn't recommend it, it takes an hour for what should be a 25-30 ish drive and it's not very frequent
Also Holyoke is kinda sketchy so you'd probably be better off driving anyways
all the Greek Orthodox Churches near Amherst College as per the official archdiocese website btw
the one next to the airport is Sts. Constantine and Helen Church (Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Grattan St, Chicopee, MA 01020)
which is an extra 10 minutes (so a 30 minute drive)
yeah just drive none of those are really pvta able
they don't charge at all but you need to register for a parking permit
- from a friend with a car on campus
the bus system is really good in amherst
i pvta like two hours to synagogue from where i go now🤣
but really awful once you leave the five colleges area
^^holyoke is not in the five colleges area
i mean if bro can keep his car on campus for free and it helps a lot with mobility i'd say just go for it
yeah i agree
i don';t have a car or license so
though if i did i probably still wouldn't drive in that specific case
i too hate driving but i also do not have pressing religious commitments in places that are difficult to access via transit
i am the number one car hater
i assure you you are not
how many cars have you keyed 😈
(i have not keyed any cars but i imagine there are car haters who have keyed cars solely out of anti-car spite)

Contributing Writer James Patterson ’27 explores the presence of cliques at Amherst, specifically how they foster social division and prevent cross-group interaction.
any amherst students know if they offer travel grants for students to go back home during breaks??
Lowkey Amherst the type of college to give that if u ask
i'm 95% sure they do because i remember being at a meeting where some international students asking admin if they could get funds to go back during spring break as well as summer
so at the very least they do for summer
will double check w a friend tho
thanks!
