If you're a CA resident, then I definitely recommend utilizing the CA system as best as you can, using some of the recommendations other students have listed. The CA school system is one of the most robust in the country, and there's really not anything quite like it.

If you're interested in some more hard target/reach schools --

Stanford University
University of Texas at Austin
Princeton University
University of Washington in Seattle (my school, hehe)
