Location/Region: Resident of New Jersey. Not much preference as far as location, but I do much prefer suburban areas over urban (but can sacrifice happiness if school is good).
-
Major: Mechanical Engineering/Aerospace Engineering
-
GPA/Test Scores: High School: 3.79/4 UW, 5.10/6.5 W | College: 4.0/4.0 | SAT: 1520 Superscore (780M/740EBRW) /1490 Single Test (750M/740EBRW)
-
Curriculum: Looking for engineering related clubs such as Rocket Club or Baja SAE. Overall just clubs that are relating to mechanical or aerospace engineering. Also interested in community based clubs such as Circle K International.
-
Size: Preferable smaller class sizes for junior/senior level classes (< 30). As previously stated, looking for more suburban campuses or smaller cities.
-
Costs: I will be applying for aid, looking for schools that are going to be less than $40k per year.
-
Schools You're Currently Looking At: Safety: Rowan | Targets: UF, UVA, Lehigh, Virginia Tech, Penn State | Reaches: Georgia Tech, Cornell, Princeton
-
Additional: I will be transferring with an associates degree so for some schools I know credits will transfer well (Rowan) and others they will not. For schools that credits won't transfer well to (say less than a semester), I would like cost to be under $25k after aid.

purdue is on my larger list of schools, still deciding if itll be a good fit
mostly concerned about school size, scares me that it might be another rutgers in terms of campus 😭
I hate busch campus
yea its a p big school
not concerned about its physical size, urban schools just have a knack at making shitty looking campuses
oh purdue campus is rly nice and spread out
i may apply and if i do get in it'll warrant a visit
its not urban at all
UVA and Tech targets???
transfer admissions might be different from FTIC admissions
^
UCs i'd consider a reach/target regardless of campus for first-year but would consider target/safety for most depending on GPA and majors
UCs I would definitely consider reach for oos transfers
So hard to break into the UCs from out of state community colleges
Initially had Berkeley and UCLA on but took them out bc the application would likely just be an $85 donation to the school
No, yes, this
I was talking more about community college transfers
Specifically those in California
The reason why it’s a reach coming from out of state or even in state privates or even from the UC or California State University system is because of institutional priorities
University of California system transfer specifically intended for California community college students
The big difference between purdue and rutgers is you don't need to rely on a bus to get around campus
I don't even bother with the buses here. I just walk everywhere
Lot of people also have bikes on campus
Purdue is a great engineering school. We have the largest aero program in the country. Ranked #3 for undergrad and #2 for graduate. Mech is our biggest engineering program and is ranked #6 i think. Also, tuition is cheaper compared to other similar options
We ain't urban. We more suburban/rural. West lafayette feels like NJ to me. Lafayette, which is across the river can feel a bit more rural depending on where you are
