#College List help, please!

Northeastern would be a good school for data science too
I dont really know what reaches youre comfortable with, because theres always carnegie mellon for CS lol
CMU, Cornell, GT, BU, all great CS DS schools
yeah
yeah i know ab those
its gonna affect roster limits
what colleges are u talking to?
but anyways, UW is beautiful! My best friend is a recruited athlete there and shes entering as a freshmen this fall! its a big school but idk much ab the class sizes
did you expand your college list and talk to more coaches than just UNL?
how often do you talk to the coach?
you dont need ncsa
nvm its fine
oh thats good
was the visit official?
when was the visit, and have yall talked after the visit
where'd he transfer to
you should def send him an email saying that you are sorry you couldnt run for him at UNL but wishes the best of luck at OK state and to keep in touch
maybe he can find u a place there
you never know! :)
yeah please do that, dont end it on a sour note for the both of u
.
yeah should be good
idk anyone that does cs there tho, ik data science and bio ppl
u applying anywhere ed?
but honestly dont give up running, you just never know what could happen anytime yk
what about high academic D3 schools?
for running
does CMU have xc?
CMU, NYU, Tufts, amherst, etc
yeah
carnegie mellon is the best CS school in the country
their cs admissions rate is less than 1%
if ur a recruited athlete you could leverage that
3.9 UW sounds pretty good
idk how many aps u take, i dont do aps
You could retake
hii!
Hi!!!
how are youu
fax tho or try out the ACT, the digital sat is a nightmare atp 😭
Good hbu?
good good! my friend whos flying to seattle from seoul is literally filming me a vlog LOL
Oh really? Is the act easier than the sat?
the science and writing really helped me out
it played a lot into my strengths
for sure!
yeah
yep, try shooting the coach an email
try NYU
and try like other high ac D3 schools
Just tell him you’re planning on taking it in Oct
Does ur school do ur recruiting for u?
That’s kind of him!
My suggestion would be to reach out to him on Monday, and tell him your first race is Saturday and you’re taking the Sat In October
That way it gives him something to look forward to and will more likely respond to you
Don’t fill it out yet, just email him yourself
Do u have an email address for recruiting only?
Like
(Your full name) 2025
@gmail.com
That works too
Honestly which ever way you feel comfortable doing it, I’m just sharing some tips from my process
NYU, Amherst, uchicago, Emory is a good one
High academic D3s
Uhhhhhh
Idk ab other sports but for my sport not exactly?
I’m gonna be honest, a lot of the Emory/amherst/nyu runners are Ivy rejects
MIT and Caltech those kids go for the school
And Uchicago
The rest mostly are LACs, so they go for the prestige and a major they love
Most caltech runners are also part time geniuses
When they’re not running
They’re going for the school. Most of the T20 athletes are going for the school
But they also have to have genuine love for their school or else it’s gonna be really hard and sad
I absolutely LOVEEEEEEE my coach at rice, I love her so much she makes me so happy and she always cheers me on. It’s so SO important to have a coach that cares about you
Wdym
Yeah
Its diff for D1 and D3 schools
Idrk how d2 is
Huh that’s odd
Ik D3 schools don’t have guaranteed admissions like D1 schools, but coaches can assist their students through admissions
Their recruits*
I spoke to CMU NYU snd some other d3s
I remember the Amherst coach telling me she can assist recruits through admissions, usually nothing goes wrong but it’s not 100% guaranteed either
Nice!
It depends on the person. It’s faster but generally the questions are easier from what I’ve heard
Oh nice! Gl
Honestly I had a pretty high score just going in blind so I didn’t study much
I basically just did practice tests
I did have to review some of the math though ‘cause I lowkey forgot
Idk what are you scoring the lowest on rn?
Honestly not bad
Going in blind that’s pretty solid
Ok that’s great!
Still lots of improvement and you’ll continue improving into October
Oh ig one actual tip I have is I kept a record of which problems and what kind I was getting wrong with explanations for what the right answer was and why
That’s sorta a general testing tip tho
Yeah UW has 9th best CS in the country, really good CS Program great internship oppurtunities (Seattle)
Also Purude!
Oregon unis are definitely worth a look, also +1 for UWash (and other unis in Washington state)
Gotta rec UNC because of our new DS major of course (very sexy combo with CS), maybe some NC universities towards the mountains (will have to look)
UNC system is definitely going to prioritize in-state students, as most state school systems do, and it's not like we don't have any OOS students
I know private schools in NC tend to have higher OOS populations (since they aren't required to limit OOS acceptance) but yeah UNC has a very rigorous CS program and our DS resources are really good too (both for "DS-centered" and "DS applications in other fields")
Nope
Not Chapel Hill at least
Even the pre-professional majors (ones where you have to apply additionally), you apply once you're at UNC
UW is so cool their campus is very pretty
Do you think it’s even with applying for cs to people out of state?
2% means total acceptance rate
Most rankings are bullshit fwiw; each ranking list values different aspects differently and none of those will make a school a better place you thrive at (inherently)
yeah well no bad options between any of them, all amazing universities
Yep yep
wait we're talking about washington right? I personally think it's amazing but I feel like I have no chance
other UW maybe, they're a great school too
yeah awesome school
awesome trees on the campus too
is that where you go?
congrats that's a great school
are you instate?
actually seems like one of the best colleges for future career opportunities
at least in the tech area
Did you get in for cs @celest aurora
What were your stats
I’m applying for cs instate aswell
So I’m curious what it takes 😭😭
Oh wow that's another crazy good one too
My school does GPA weird, was that your unweighted?
For us my unweighted gpa is a 4.11, but just because they do it weird,
If I have a few A- for high school and rest are A/A+, what would that be?
or I guess a better question what grades did you have for a perfect 4/4 Im assuming
Ohh ok I see
is that like a 3.8?
ah I wish my school did things normally
yeah fair
is there some sort of calculator? or does the commonapp just do some magic with everything
You have a friend that got in with a 3.8?
yeah il try to find a calculator
I have a chance 🙏🙏
I think mine is good but it feels a bit generic
Okay I got it
haven't done supplementals yet though
I’ll lock in fr
when'd you start?
😭😭
ah fair enough
I started some August 3rd or so but still a lot to go
worked out in the end though
Ah yeah haven't done ucs yet
Really true yeah
Right now my generic ones are
"Why x major" (obviously) and "What's your background"
but still a ton of work to be done
do you have any other reaches you're considering?
Oh a few lmao
smart strategy
Hopefully k can get in with a 3.8
But my school has +-
but it is hot and lots of people..
is your school on a 4.0 scale?
oh that's a really good one nice
My gpa is only like it is cause of freshman year
Wihotu freshman in at like a 3.95 😭😭
yeah I have to do a calculator or something because I have a 4.11 unweighted but it's out of like 4.33?
So 4.11/4.33 feels pretty low actually
Same for me but 8th grade, I got a 3.84 because apparently I took some classes that counted as high school, language and history
Oh interesting, A is also 4.0
also my school says 93 is an A-
another great one
yeah no point, it's hard just because of how competitive it all is
Same
not sure but it's from the collegeboard
did you take it on the 24th?
Same
Practice tests! I wish the collegeboard released more though...
Additionally if you haven't already check out "tutorlini" on youtube, he has a great dsat practice problem series, and he comes out with videos every time before a dsat.
And khan academy of course
what's your score now? if you've taken it
that's not bad though
yeah that's all great, I also do robotics for my school and IT stuff haha, no website though unfortunately
proposed cs curriculum but board said no unfortunately
yeah, only team we have unfortunately
it's fun though
yeah just calculated it, I'd have a 3.7 if I count 93s as A-, but still happy with that
3.97
11282
I know some schools have FRC which seems cool as well
my school used to show percent, but they switched to letter last year
unfortunately not, we didn't do that great
yeah no clue, but you said you had a 4.0 so that's obviously good enough
at least if that scale is the one colleges use
Good luck applying though, I’m sure you’ll do well
Yeah, if you want I can send you some harder sat practice problems that helped me a lot (math section)
When I went on the 24th I only did the math so not sure how reading is
I only decided to go 2 weeks before so I felt like my reading was alright as was (750) so just wanted to focus on hard studying for math. Fingers crossed hopefully it worked.
I should’ve committed earlier and studied for both but I was too late unfortunately
On test day yeah I still tried once i wrote down some math formulas, but didn't go super hard
Didn't just go c all the way, although I still doubt I got more than a 750
sure give me a second to gather a few
Got 2 wrong for sure, unfortunately they were stuff I never saw before, hoping for a 780 though, could be wayy off though
what are some other colleges that don't admit by major that you know?
most ecs i have are bio related but im looking to apply more engineering/math based so colleges that dont admit by major or dont consider it as much would be great advice for me
Your ECs dont have to match your major
Also not ur thread so maybe better for #🛩-lounge-chat lol
