The military is a very good way to set your life up for the far future. You could do that as an officer (where you’d probably learn skills that may fit nicely into the corporate world), or on the enlisted side, choosing a rate/mos that specializes in a transferable skill to the civilian side
ROTC is a respectable program. Physical fitness is something that can be improved upon with consistency and dedication. Like Feller said, keep at it. There are many sources online from broad articles to niche subreddits that can be good sources of advice.

If one mile is all you can do right now, do 1.5 miles with some core after. Then after a week, move up your mileage
You should be able to at least comfortably complete a 5k without feeling absolutely exasperated
I'm not sure about other schools, but at my school, which definitely on the lighter side for PT, we do a lot of cardio and core workouts
Only once a week for us, but our runs are always at least 3.1 miles, so you should work to to do this comfortably at an 8-9 minute pace
