#All Service/Military Academies (2024-2025)
1 messages ยท Page 3 of 1
me neither
calc 3 with vectors next semester
prob stats
all the way up to prob stats for tier three majors
so if u have AP credit in BC that counts towards calc 2?
so i can just do skip ahead to calc 3
same here
you have to take the validation test over plebe summer
but yes your bc credit should let you jump to calc 3
oh alr
so actually try in bc
rotc is cooler than the academies tbh.
BC is ez as hell
rotc is school with a lil military
good shit
perfect mix.
i got calc 3, microeconomics, the human event, sea power & maritime affairs, and intro to actuarial science
service academy is military with school
NS 100 !!!!!!!!!!
integrals are hell
the only military we really do is parade around in NWUs at 0500-0800 every day
and then go to our classes
they are lowk lol
lmao in civvies
do u think its equal in difficulty to AP BC?
we dont get that freedom
(if u took it)
i never took it
im doing alri
civvies and sleeping at 9am when it's all done
although for some reason our PT scores are insane
at the end of the day we all commision
we have a prior in our unit who promoted to E4 just because his PT got so good in ROTC
for fleet standards it was amazing but for ROTC standards he was on the FEP borderline
thats wild
yeah i feel like the service academy aint good for fleet integration
most kids here never been in the fleet
we've got around 30 active marines through the MECEP program
and 6 active navy through STA-21
asus a big rotc school isnt it
all somewhere between E-4 and E-8
for navy it's so-so? around 100 total navy and marines iirc
having a master chief in college is insane
he's a MARSOC MSgt
he just looked at me like "son im not a midshipman"
opposite here our gunny is the one who gives the discipline
the LTs just deal with you if you're late or have bad grades or some shit
if you suck at PT gunny will let you know
suck at drill? gunny's gonna fix that
bruhhh i gotta start running soon
why cant it just be pushups and planks for PT ๐ข
we don't have any chiefs
@exotic hatch what sport are you doing?
1 CAPT, 1 CDR, 3LT, 1 CAPT (marine side), 2 2ndLT
intramurals technically but if you are in like a dvelopment extracirccibular, you can get it waived
and then 1 GySgt
those are our staff
lots of gunnys in the battalion though
they're hilarious
i love our staff gunny too but his job is discipline so i don't interact with him that much
he's really good at fucking people up for being bad at PT
is it all active duty staff that teach your classes
ahh
or retired
makes sense
we do some of our cruises together yeah
i heard some academy kids go to NSI before going to plebe summer why do they do that
no yeah ik that
more to integrate the fleet people to school again
but there were academy kids at NSI cycle 1
ive never heard of nsi ppl
which is supposed to be NROTC only
huh
i think you're misunderstanding
for some reason the first iteration of NSI (first cycle) they had USNA kids go
not many but some
none in the second or third iterations
ive actually never heard of that
odd
yeah thats when plebe summer starts
yeah apparently they went to NSI, graduated that, took a few days, then went to plebe summer
why would you do that to yourself
nah
nsi is not plebe summer
no like
from what i heard
jesus
boot camp boot camp boot year
NSI is closer to enlisted boot camp
than plebe summer
we do basically the same activities just condensed
yeah isnt it literally just navy RTC's curriculum in 2.5 weeks
its even at great lakes
they're not allowed to fuck with us as much as the recruits though
really
yeah we ate meals with the recruits
how come / was there a noticeable difference
they fucked me up for not having a belt at sick call
until i said "candidate" instead of recruit and they instantly laid off
i asked why he said only certain staff are allowed to fuck with the candidates
if you're not supposed to be fucking with the candidates and you get reported then you get in big trouble
huh interesting
they're supposed to keep candidates and recruits separate
do you guys wear the same shit
i had a few interactions with recruits mostly at sick call
yes but different colored belt, normal cover instead of recruit ball cap
plebe summer was way too damn long
so when i was indoors and didn't have my belt i looked exactly like a recruit
very cool
good to know
im gonna try for NSI 2 instead of 3
i dont think i can get 1 cause i have school until the 26th
which is the day before 2 starts LOL
from what i hear NSI 1 is the hardest because they're still testing what they can do
NSI 3 has post-OCS marine midshipmen
im assuming thats bad news
yeah they just fuck with you more because they're fresh outta OCS
its like the boss > husband > wife > son abuse
@exotic hatch do they IT the fuck out of you during plebe summer
oh yeah was NSI like physically demanding or did u cruise by
yeah
u do PT on like red cards right
yeah they red carded us a lot
and they just pick at us
but they banned the cards cuz too many fat kids got sent to the ER
what the fuck
gray space?
time in between evolutions
thats genuinely wild
yeah one division had 3 dudes get sent to the ER
because plebe summer was 7 fricken weeks
ER is actually wild
you run out of things to do
hell naw that shit was easy
the detailers run out of steam
you just do a lot of holding shit on line
i gotta take your statement with a bit of salt cause you are very physically capable
hurts your shoulders and hurts your quads/hammies
i fell off after doing my PFA
like you'll cramp almost every night
oh
what does this mean
like a rope..?
arms parallel to deck holding items out for extended periods of time
the worst was blankets
OH
or the damn boots
those fucking suck bro
what are leg levers
we had to do a shit ton of those
like flutter kicks ?
so it's way heavier
up and down
increases the suck by like 100x
embrace the suck
is that a plebe summer thing or did that happen at NSI too
what are fuck games
could you give an example
like folding blankets with arms parallel to the deck for 3hrs straight
bruh
anyone fucks up a fold or drops the blanket we restart
lol you are making rez regret it
nah
ye
did you guys get to do confidence chamber at plebe summer
confidence chamber is such a funny name for the gas chamber burh
yeah
nop
army only
i heard that
yes but you barely saw them
fuck
if you look at them you'll get fucked up by the RDCs and MIs
bruh
because they watch you like a hawk whenever girls divisions come by
LOL
cuz they know they're gonna catch someone lacking
yeah no you're gonna get the whole div red carded
๐ญ
while yelling "i am not here to look at girls petty officer"
every time you finish an 8 count
do yall know how long it takes after dodmets is complete for dodmerb to get the docs
only thing im waiting on
depends on the provider
it takes like
usually 1-2 weeks
yeah
up to a month
cuz ur provider has to send them and then dodmerb has to review them
so that could take a min
@exotic hatch love how our experiences are so different yet we're gonna end up with the same commission
doesnt everyone use concentra?
or is it only in maryland
idk what that is
ah then it must be a maryland thing lol
civ team gives u like a partner clinic
im not hating it
nah i used concentra
i didnt
its concentra
i went to the fucking hood
just different places
oh
๐
oh alr
do you guys deal with ROTC mids at all or just other academy mids
my doctor was in east new york which is next to brownsville and bushwick in nyc
which is like one of the highest crime areas
nah
rotc mids thinks academy mids are tryhards
nah not really
academy mids dont think anything of rotc mids
rotc mids just think of academy mids as academy mids
the only academy mids we have experience with are the ones who leave ROTC to pursue an appointment
those guys are pretty stuck up im ngl
the rest we dont really have any opinion on
the guys who try to transfer to the academy i notice that they don't really have a "why"
besides prestige
and they struggle the first sem at ROTC ๐ญ
but that's only n=2 so i cant speak for all of em
@distant spoke play all the og fortnite you can now
my roomie plays fortnite 8 hour a day
wait you guys are allowed to bring your own PCs?
LMAO
im enjoying my last few months of civilian fun
im kinda slacking off in school rn, but my grades are still good
wait did you get your appt already
sheeeesh
but gl finding time here
my PC won't fit in my room
its all good enjoy it
yup
last time you wear civilian clothes for like months
do you guys have pajamas or is it just PTUs
LOA
if all my other app stuff is good
which it is
dodmerb isnt a worry im fine
got my appointment
nomination*
but i also kind of applied to 15 civilians schools ๐ญ
so im kinda waiting on those
yeah
you do realize if you hit that you're fucked
because you can't get rid of your ED contract to go to a service academy
you can
schools have to let you go for service academies
congress wrote something up a few years ago
theyre outdated
they let u go for ED or u can just say u dont wanna pay
cause sometimes they dont offer sufficient financial aid
yeah the old folks ont he forums dont have the gouge
i will forever be haunted by the abbreviations DS and DD
what are those
Dear son, and dead daughter
dear*
just used by parents who ask for stuff on behalf of their kids
during my nom interview this kid's parents pulled up in full USNA gear
this kid was a hot mess and did NOT want to be there
it was so hilarious cuz the parents were coaching him on what to say
yeah my mom almost pulled off smth similar during my BGO interview
she was like "before i go, I would like to say my son.."
just unnecessary glazing
nah im african american
ah
well i was actually born in africa but immigrated 2010, got my citizenship like 2015 or 2016 i believe
ahhh gotcha
btw this guy was obviously the worst candidate in the room
didnt talk to any other kids during the mixer, didnt talk to the congressman, any of the alumni or panel
only talked to them during the meeting
bro
you can see exactly here
whose parents wanted them to come
and who actually wanted to come by themselves
the kids who wanted to come independantly are the ones that eat in king hall everyday
grind their asses off
the kids whose parents wanted them to come
get their food delivered everyday
(uber eats or the actual parents)
but its like a crazy thing, these kids dont even wanna be here
my parents didn't know about usna until I got in lmao, and I was a direct applicant
lwk kinda wild, but the people that care the most are the best performers
the people who don't complain are the best performers
and the people who know why they are there are the best performers
tips for the incoming class
wtf you can do that??
this is the same with ROTC
find your "why"
yeah ubereats and shit
matters more here i think
it doesn't matter where it matters more
never been rotc i wouldnt know but quality of life here sucks
sucks and is so good at the same time
service academies are weird lol
your entire person changes
here it matters because you're up at 0500 every day doing stupid shit when you have normal college life dangling in front of you on a stick
where you can pull all nighters and sleep in
and if you're late or UA it's GG
instant PRB
exactly
finding the good in everything you do
ROTC attrition rate is horrible after first semester and first year
embracing the suck
because that's when you can still back out without any obligation
and kids come back from break thinking "why am i doing this shit"
yeah i feel like usna's attrition rate is high because of how different it is
because when you go back home for the first time
your friends change
yeah ours is high for different reasons
your view on the world changes
do you guys get room checked
every day
yeesh
yeah my room would get hit at least 500 times
this shit is nasty
banned stuff in plain sight
ehhhh a form of it
it's 4 MIDN that set it up and take it down
we're on a schedule
and then we rotate with army and af
i've done it i think 4/5 times
the upperclassmen dont like doing it so they'll bribe 4/C with chickfila
๐ ๐
thats wild lmao
i love af
i dont complain though i enjoy my sandwich
we get free chikfila whenever theres like an event
they accept intl students but its very few
fire
like 3 intl students go
plebes
oh shit?
thank you for letting me know
we just raid the dining halls for stuff
u navy rotc?
you can contact your embassy
what country?
๐ญ
bruh thats insane
nah hes normal dude
intern
real
josh you already have your secret?
nah
cuz you need it for protramid right
we're getting ours soon but our unit is lowk stalling
awesome, i'll contact my embassy
currently at a different place right now for studies but i'm trying to consider new options
4/c need them before going to cortramid
good luck
and btw you dont serve us navy, youll serve your countries navy upon graduation
^
yuh
what's the gender ratio, or more specifically how favourable are they towards women
depends on your country
its strictly up to your country to decide whether or not they want to send you here
typically other countries send top performing junior officers here
most freshman here have prior fleet experience in their foreign militaries
so probably not something i'd be able to get into then, at least culture-wise
I dont wanna discourage you; if there is a will theres a way, but the military is not always nice when it comes to who gets to join and who doesnt
wtf
how havent they been kicked ๐ญ
@shrewd crypt put simply your country has to have an incentive to send you there---im assuming if they're gonna take the initiative to send you there they are expecting you to be a career officer
this
which is why they tend to send priors
makes sense, thank you
sports tied
a general asked a kid for their reason of being here
and this kid said football
skull
thats actual bullshit
how did he even get nominated
did he just tell his rep i wanna go to usna bc football
if they hit the portal do they still have to repay
they get special noms
most football people go to naps for a year, then come here to play football
and naps people dont need congressional/senatorial noms
they are immune from the portal lol
wdym immune from it
lol just be someone who wants to be here
they still lose eligibility
and want to get 1% harder to kill everyday
service academy are expemt from the portal
oh interesting
mine neither
i think i have like
good shit
is it wild i emailed him saying happy thanksgiving ๐ญ
what designator r u hoping to do after usna
๐ญ
*service community
I wanna do subs or nuke swo
based
i want that money
i think its similar to what feller wanna do too iirc
didnt they have a shortage of people who wanted to do subs, so they had to take some out of aviation for class of '25?
ya atm swo, swo-nuke, EOD
mmmm
at least thats what my BGo told me
they don't really "take it out" its more of a draft
yuh'
you and will could team up in EOD
they just snatch you regardless of whatever you want
but being top of the class reduces that chance right?
for ROTC if your GPA is high and you're engineering high likelihood of getting sub drafted
nope
if you are too good
they will subdraft you
if you're insane and want something like SEAL/EOD or sometimes aviation with insane ASTB then yeah they might not take you
youll realize at your time here
but for the most part if the navy needs subs they get subs
everything you do is about the navy's needs
your personal ambitions are good, but its all about the navy
dang feller
youll realize your sense of purpose and your goals will allign to the mission
most plebes here dont recognize that here yet
well thanks for the notice in advance, although i still want to go ๐
ngl i dont think even a million dollars would make me reject this offer
thats the spirit
dont fall into the jane street trap
usna >
lmaoooo
you'll see what subs are like too
true
and nuke swos
they get a bad rep because people dont wanna go to nuke school
dont let anyone take that from you lol
what do you guys do at protramid?
keep that mindset, find out why, and youll be a good mid
marines for a week, subs for a week, swo for a week
wait is that your 3rd or 2nd class summer
its the summer after freshman year
oh
wtf the difference between cortramid and protramid then
just separating ROTC and academy?
cuz we do the same shit
marines, subs, swo, aviation
and academy people tend to be more professional due to the military exposure
but some of them also plateu and do stupid shit
like frat
and drink
LOL
weve had adjudications for all those already
interesting i thought it would be the opposite
cuz i can frat and drink whenever tf i want here
you guys dont get to do that so i would imagine it would be like a golden opportunity for yall
exactly
the good ones ofc
midshitbags
alright my fine dedicated brothers and sistas in arms
how lenient r they
i have a chem final tomroowo so i will be going to bed
0 tolerace
yeah if you're caught you get fucked
here too but it's just 10000x easier to not get caught
mhm
basically everyone does it cuz they dont gaf and dont check
rip
they only care once you get caught and they have to deal w/ it
fuck around find out
be smart or be strong
or crash out
the fuck out
-gunny
good night yall
gn
before he ITs the fuck out ofus
pleasure
peace
type type
random generals and admirals just show up here
and important people
its pretty coool
LMAO
lol
well...
#1274778616609374268 message
the hypothetical has now become reality ๐ญ
red and blue pill situation im facing rn
u could do jhu rotc?
yeah thats what im thinking
lets gooo
but i have 33 days to make a choice
see if anything pops up for the academy
highly unlikely theyll extend the deadline so idk
to commit to usna?
what elements would u think is considered regretting
๐ญ that was worded like dogshit
i know a lot about both usna and jhu
but 33 days
is enough to put my mind to rest
mhm
my two cents is
if you come here
youll struggle now and be glad you did in the future
if you go to jhu, youll have a bit more fun, and youll struggle a bit more in the future
as both officer and civilian
i have a feeling ur a messenger from god ๐ญ
warning me of what lies ahead
(joking lol)
i aint gonna sugarcoat it is sucks here
and its hard
you get thrown a lot of shit
but you keep your mind straight and your goals are clear
i cant say for a civilian school but its a completely different world here
civilian school with a little military, or the military with a little school
plus, the networking here is insane. you meet some of the most badass admirals/generals
but on the civilian side, speaker of the house's son lives a few floors away
i declined my stanford offer a week after i got it and made no regrets
helped me sleep betetter at night
hmm
i dont really lose much attending either JHU or USNA
i still get that opportunity to serve
but i get what u mean 100%
its 5k for the school year
i got my financial aid offer
they deducted 85k
i dont have to pay it back either
yeah either materials science engineering or just plain mechanical
...
my alternative to aerospace
๐ญ
u dont get to choose until after ur first year anyways or i think 2nd
if you wanna go engineering come here dude
you choose after your first semester
and if you validated enough classes, you can start on your major in the second semseter
I'm pre med engineering
usna is p goat at engineering
plus u have a guaranteed job right out
do you wanna be up at 5am every morning eating shit, going to school for 6 hours, exercising for 1, studying for 4, sleeping at 11 every day
wait the fuck what am i doing LMAO
๐
yeah dude go to jhu
i dont think anyone would wanna wake up at 5
it's easier
well any normal person
are you on ROTC at JHU
i came to USNA cause it's hard lol
i can speak for the ROTC side
all we need now is an enlisted dude
to talk about enlisting
๐๐๐
if you wanna fly the academy is suited for that
nopeeeeee
and there was no option on the app ๐ญ
ill look into it
@distant spoke the biggest difference between the two is the lifestyle
AND that you aren't committing to 5 years of service with JHU
you can still go to OCS after if you wanna serve
i would personally take OCS
theres someone in the AF reserves at my college
my new roommate's a prior
just made e-4
jhu has a lot of connections to big aerospace names, but either way... im going into the military after
rotc requires u to serve after right?
like 4 years
the few jobs that would probably be within my options thatโd require me to wake up that early is like
yes
or smth
being a watch officer
5 + 3
or some other shit
10 for aviation
and i wouldnt wanna wake up that early till im in my 30s or smth
go to OCS homie
most of the dod jobs start at 7 or 8 so im chilling
what if you find out you hate the life
scholarship
and stuck with it 5 years
if u get a scholarship yes
wait so ill have money left over?
if the college is covering like 95% of the cost..
what will the rotc scholarship do
lockheed raytheon yea
also prob a huge feeder to nsa
cover tuition
and books
idk about room
thats a question i cannot answer
rotc only cover tuition and books so
theyd probably just adjust the finaid
im still so lost
i recommend you just go to JHU as a normie
you're not picking up scholarship year 1
opposite way
ROTC would cover whatever tuition is
rotc covers 25k
lol
mb
90k
and your total finaid package
with room and board
separate them
i didn't ask for full price everything
just room and board / tuition separated
oh lemme get the figure
that's why you're confused
personally i would recommend going to JHU if you're nearly covered
12k room and board, tuition 66k
ok i cant speak for air force ROTC
yeah no don't do a cross-town
definitely don't
it's inconvenient as fuck
does it offer nrotc or is that also cross town
GW is the only nrotc program in the immediate dmv area i cant speak for jhu
yeah
even if you could i dont recommend it
whats wrong with crosstowning?
it's inconvenient as fuck
commite
its 1 meeting every week
you have to commute for your ROTC events and classes
uhhh what?
wait lemme double check
i have 3 PTs a week, 1 leadership lab, 1 drill day, and 2 days of ROTC classes
that sounds a bit off
if i had to commute 30 minutes a day to all of that i would kms
yeah no
you understimate the stuff that ROTC does
it's not JROTC where you can just fuck around
https://krieger.jhu.edu/rotc/ the only thing they seem to offer on campus is army rotc for jhu? but i suppose u dont wanna do army rotc lmao
Combine a world-class education with world-class leadership training at Johns Hopkins Army ROTC. Take advantage of the opportunities offered by the JHU Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). Enhance your confidence, problem solving ability, and leadership skills. You can enroll in Johns Hopkins Army ROTC during your first two years of college wi...
my personal rec is to go to JHU
^
and when you graduate if you want to go in the military just go to OCS
it's not worth signing your life away to go to the academy
if you have such a good offer on the table alr
its with scholarship + their grant
yeah i would take it
again, the problem i see is being locked into something
go to JHU and you get a normal college life without being locked into stuff
and you can decide when you grad if you want to go navy still
while having a degree OF YOUR CHOICE
wdym
alright
it only works like that when a school has all 3
but yours doesnt so it doesnt apply
and if i go with the academy, whats ur opinion on that @warped solar
i dont recommend it in your case
because you can get to the same path as a naval academy grad without signing 9+ years of your life away
AND have a college experience
there's a reason i didnt reapply to the academy despite having an appointment virtually guaranteed
all my shit is paid for here so i dont have to worry about cost and i get to have a hell of a college life
cannot stress this enough you might not even like the academy when you get there
wanna drop? you're fucked
back at square 1
What do YOU want? What's your end goal
yeah
i want to serve through aviation
so navy pilot?
or if i cant fly then i want to become a aerospace engineer
doesnt have to be navy
aviation is not exclusive to the navy
ik
the general idea is "serving through aviation"
being a pilot through ROTC/academy is an automatic 14 years of time you're 100% LOCKED IN
there is no dropping
without paying the government a substantial amount of money
If you want Navy aviation, your best bet is USNA if you absolutely don't see yourself doing anything else
also iirc pilot slots in general are one of the most competitive spots
its all a gamble tbh
yeah most of the pilot slots come from the academy
my health today may not be my health in 4 years
exactly dawg
so i may not be "fit to fly"
Do you have any current conditions?
and that's part of my qualm---you don't know if you'll even want to fly still after 4 years of JHU
and i really want to fly fighters
It sounds like you want to go to JHU
what would u major in at usna or jhu
thats why i wanna use this 33 days
usna aerospace, jhu materials science or mechanical
and yes ik engineering is hard
but im very solid in math and have taken an aerospace course at my school for 2 years
@distant spoke btw you can still try for an OCS pilot slot after graduating
given your app is good enough
i did not know that
wow
god bless this discord man ๐ญ
soo many things and people that helped me
most come from the academy or ROTC but there are still slots from OCS
see you're living the dream here
think of it that way
its not that the academy is hard
irdc abt it being hard
mentally
physically
im prepped
its just
if you go to the academy you're gonna be doing what the navy wants you to do
all 4 years
jhu is not an opportunity everyone gets
and that might include not getting pilot
and you have to be OK with it because it's the needs of the navy
once you collect the $200 from passing go you gotta play the game
no problem dude
JHU and USNA are very good options, whatever the choice they'll both be good, it just lies for what you want
im here to give you the best guidance i can for what you ultimately want
when do u hear back from usna
im basically already in
o
considering everything medical is good
i didnt see that part
yup
personally i would go the JHU route but this is your decision to make based on what you want to do
congratulations on your work to get to this point
whatever route you choose you're prepared for
keep me posted
ill prob make the final decision before jan 10th
you got instagram?
yeah
skull
can i follow
yay
sent in DM
kk
you wanna take the easy route
or the hard route
you wanna go to bed each night accomplishing more than your friends in a week in a day?
it's not about that
what reason does he have to take the "hard route"
it gets him to the same spot
if you want "the hard route" then fuckin enlist lol
go to the marine corps
go into the navy with a SEAL contract, drop out, and be an undes and grind your way back up
that's the hard route
i understand where josh is coming from
but ill deliberate based on everything here
lol feller i meant it as in
the seal motivational shit
the only easy day was yesterday
evasion go check out serviceacademyforums.com
are you even branching SEAL/EOD ๐ญ
i get the motivation but your application of it in this context is not it
Rahhh go Navy beat Army today
