I am an international student but go to a US high school;
Considering these schools to REA;
might consider pre-med or bio/healthcare consulting in the future
Schools: Stanford VS Harvard
Intended major: Biology/Neuroscience/Public Health
Similarities: Both have hospitals/medical centers for medicine-related resources, alumni networks, prestige, beautiful campuses, and generous to students who need grants to do their independent research projects and study abroad
Stanford
Pros:
- Bay Area: good vibes for startups and other entrepreneur stuff - networking and finding internships in biotech and health tech industries;
- better weather than Boston (but I'm good with both)
- Interdisciplinary Programs: Stanford Bio-X program and Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute
Cons:
- quarter terms: more stressful when it comes to test-taking and keeping up a great GPA
- my family is considering moving somewhere near my future college - bay area houses are way more expensive than those in Boston
Harvard
Pros:
- Prestigious network
- Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital resources for pre-med
- semester system: relatively easier on tests and time management
- I go to high school near the Boston area, have more friends on the East Coast, and am more familiar with MA and Boston in general
- Resources from MIT, Wellesley, and other nearby schools
Cons:
- Could be a little bit preppy but not that big of a deal
Tiebreaking considerations:
- both vibes are great
- looking for room to explore what I want to do in the future, both have great opportunities to try out new things
- both have great alumni networks
