1 messages Ā· Page 3 of 1
parties at schools are almost always off campus lmfao
frat houses typically arent on-campus
its risky being in N Philly after dark
yeah just off
temple has gentrified north philly beyond recognition
its really not that bad
its risky in the same way its risky being out after dark in any city
its a non-issue lol
is temple like
safe
on campus is safe
off campus not really at night but its been getting better
hm k
still occasional shootings, some guy got shot at a chipotle on campus but it wasnt a student
in front of a police station too š
got into psu mech rolling
nice
psu mechE is like t20
how prestigious is psu cs?
i dont know
I have heard for engineering it's a T20 school but wanted to check if anyone knew for CS
undergrad engi yes
im waiting for anyone with usnews compass
they locked it behind a paywall
Real
Idk whether to go by these rankings or not
Because I got into tamu psu and asu for CS
i mean.. qs rankings are worse
so i guess this is the only one
TAMU??
dang
I didn't really consider tamu as a option till now but it beats asu and psu in all rankings
tamu is good
i wont consider asu at all
no offense but
Ohh
look at the grad rate
Haven't heard a lot about them
basically penn state but texas it seems
Ahh
i got psu and rutgers
They got pretty good marketing over here in India
im hoping for tamu
Niceee
they spam my instagram ads
and email
So real
tamu and vtech are my last hopes rn
you oos for tamu?
same man

got either rejected or deferred from all the ea school
in rd i only got UCs and super dreams
intl
i don't got hopes for UT austin also because they fill 90% of their class with in state
same applies with tamu
its the texas law
i just applied to MIT Stanford and CMU so i won't have any regrets later
but tamu is big enough and less prestigous
sooo
yea
imagine if they took you
i think i got my admit back in december
i mean.. only thing we can do rn is dream
but i got my intended major as BAC instead of BS

so gonna send out an appeal mail
if they don't change it to BS then psu or asu it is
what bs
withdraw for me pls
if thats the case
bachelor of arts in computing and bachelor of science
not like its gonna do much i guess
oh dang
as an intl i gotta have a STEM degree otherwise i am screwed for visa later on
dang.. rip
you also applied CS eng right?
CE
ahh okay
decent
t40
unless ur instate and it's almost free for u i wouldnt go though
got it
in state isnāt almost feee
itās still $35k/year
penn state doesnāt admit by major, they admit by college. cs is in the college of engineering so you were admitted for engineering
no need to be aggressive
youāre in a discord server about applying to college please donāt be weird
so that will be t20 right?
rankings really donāt matter that much but if you want to get into it then technically yea
ohh okay
Is engi the most competitive major in penn state
no smeal
Whatās that
O
yes
never heard anyone going there

???
š
bro what
top 20 business school
k ig
penn state doesnāt admit by major except for a select few programs
they admit by college
college of engi?
and no, neither business nor engineering are the most selective programs. itās the B.F.A. in Musical Theatre
itās kind of trivial lol

penn state has an overall 50% AR
you donāt really need to pit the colleges against each other
?
i dont even know what bfa is
ar by major isnt public
anyway both are similarly competitive
not that hard to get into
bro it's sub 20% the same way rutgers has a 35% acceptance rate š
it's high cuz a lot of mid stat ppl apply
š¤
bro getting shit off collegevine
that data isnt public anywhere
š
collegevine is such an ass source
ok
if u have a 1450+ sat and like decent gpa you're like autoadmit for anything at penn state
š¤

its because penn state doesnt admit by major
there is no public data because the data does not exist'
its a bachelor of fine arts
o
one of the only majors you have to be directly admitted into at penn state
then whats the ar for college of engi
hm
ea doesnt really do much for penn state
it just gets you your decision by december 24th bc its rolling
nah ea penn state is much easier
compared to rolling
just cuz a lot of ppl apply
the slots fill up fast
ea penn state engineering is prolly like 50-70%
this is completely baseless lmfao
the overall acceptance rate is 50%
thats not how statistics work
ik a lot of ppl with ultra low stats that got into penn state ea
it's definitely much easier than rolling
theres a difference between anecdotal info and making up stats
i gave like a big ass range
lmao

Rutgers doesn't tho. The mail they released told us the number of applicants they got. People are assuming that they accepted the same number of people as they did last year, which would make it 35%. However, because a lot of their increased applicants were oos, they probably accepted a lot more ppl cuz oos yield is low
a range that has no evidence as being true lol
if you donāt have info then donāt make it up
nah Iād win
what are you talking about

i refuse to elaborate
10/10 ragebaitt
not even 2+2?
Do we have any idea when Schreyer decisions come out
I wrote like 9 essays for that bruh š
march
penn state is like t40 for cs
so not bad by any means
ong dude
they only take like 500 people tho
I don't think I'll go even if I get it but I'm invested cause of all the essays xD
can attest, i go to usc and i didnāt get into schreyer lmfao
Hi!!
hello š¤
got in
fire
they got rolling
decisions
which major
again
test optional
which is the main campus
uni park right?
what should i choose as alternate campus
Guys how is Penn state behrend in the 2+2 program
Iāll be a CS major (intl applicant)
the 2+2 program is mostly for in-state students so they can live at home but have a guaranteed spot at penn state after two years instead of going to community college
i would not do it as an out of state student let alone an international student
the commonwealth campuses tend to be in very rural or suburban areas so youāre not going to be in a college town and itāll be very difficult to get around unless you happen to have a car which is highly unlikely if youāre an international student
thank you for this response, I will definitely keep this in mind
I love this school
harvard '29 ahh
Ur acting as if it's a bad school
the professors there r amazing
It was one of my top choices tbh
yea i was down to the wire between penn state and usc lmfao
penn state has one of the biggest college campuses in the world, a massive alumni network, R1 funding, and itās a BIG10 school so it has great athletics. itās one of the top programs for my major in the country. it being a state school doesnāt detract from that
The only thing I don't like about it is that it's a party school, which I guess wouldn't have worked well for me since I don't party. But other than that, it was in the top 5 on my list, and the professors were so responsive and kind. I wouldn't have done half of the things I did if not for their encouragement and advice, despite not being a student there.
their athletics teams are AMAZING
- it's known everywhere
i mean honestly as someone who goes to a notorious party school, its very easy to avoid partying if you want to
theres such a massive student body that you can find a lot of people who arent interested in greek life or parties in any capacity
but ultimately the reason i chose usc over penn state was almost entirely because of my familial connections to psu lol
my mom's entire side of the family went to penn state (she grew up in state college and my grandparents worked for penn state so all six of their kids went for free), most of her family still lives in the state college area, and i've visited state college at least three times a year my entire life so it didnt really feel like a true college town
also state college is a great college town but its highkey in the middle of nowhere (dead center of the state) and im going into the entertainment industry so la was much more the vibe
same party school
why are all the hotels except a few near penn state sold out for 4th april check inš
because penn state has a massive student body and is a lot of in-state studentsā top choice
i am intl visting for the 5th april tour
my best option now is to book a hotel 30 from from uni for a resonable price
well that's great!
wdym?
yeah ik
š
financial aid doesnt come out until later
hi
hi
hi
hi
hi
Schreyer today!
I wrote so many essays Iām invested
rejected from schreyers
Same here
Weeeee
if it makes you feel better i also got rejected from schreyer and i go to usc now lol
yeah its okay i got into uva already and im still waiting on some others
I got unc honors but not Schreyer lmfao
yea they take like 500 people a year and most of them are pennsylvania residents who theyre trying to deter from doing to ivies etc
it also got significantly harder to get in when penn state blew up in terms of oos applicants apparently
but oh well
hey guys got into honors college
I got accepted uiuc too and im planning to commit but should i look into penn state aswell?
got in for aero eng
60A?!
uiuc would be more expensive
yeah pretty normal id say š¤
lol
Ikr
no
any of y'all get in to Schreyer?
no im stoopid
yess
yeah im intl too but im more towards prestige ykwim
I mean Penn state is good but UIUC is better for engineering
Undeniably
schreyer honors college is very prestigious
they only take ~500 students a year
also theyre very big on community and connect current students with alumni in the student's future career field
it's great tbh
Schreyer took in 300 this year as far as I know
I got accepted 4 engineeringā¼ļø
dawg this school costs way too much
financial aid just came out
why does shit cost more than before
65k is crazyyy work
discord user discovers tuition increases
nah but like
i opened the same site like
a few months ago
and it already showed this
but with like a price somewhere in the 50s
like the same financial aid section
FR
yea they update financial aid when they formally announce tuition prices for the next year
no need to be aggressive
booooo
ur the h8er bro
love psu fin aid
shows 58k for me (53k after "fin aid")
just got scholarship from college of engineering
Yea
it just means that they havent finished processing your aid yet
scholarships are done by college, financial aid is separate
how do i apply for scholarships now?
pretty much every school-affiliated scholarship is closed
they run with the application cycle
wait where do u see total cost of attendance?
go to lionpath
penn state overpriced asf
at the very bottom of your fin aid offer
+1
If only they gave out scholarships š that were more accessible
word
need more auto merit scholarships
bro pa is broke
well not really but penn state is
i cannot blame them for having to charge out the ass for tuition given the fact that they've been begging the state to give them more funding for literally 40 years
they used to be the least expensive public school in the state but when the state government started cutting their budget in the 80s it got really rough and they had to start relying on tuition
like it was $4k/year in-state when my mom went in the 80s
wtf
now its over $20k
i mean that was just tuition but yea
also in recent years pennsylvania has become a very big retirement state so all the old coots who move there get pissy about their social security getting taxed for literally anything that doesnt benefit them
lol
i am pa's #1 hater and #1 defender
y r u talking about the budget 40 years ago
every university was dirt cheap back then
because thatās when the problem started einstein
i applied rolling back in january but i still haven't gotten a decision is that like normall orrrr how long is it supposed to usually take?
theres no set time for how long it takes but january wasnt that long ago lol
prolly ts month
gotcha thanks guys!
what major r u
i applied in civil/industrial engineering i think i have to double check š
oh nice nice
i applied for aerospace
is ts one of ur top option
thats sickk wow
it could definitely be one of my top choices if i get in
tbh eng wasnt like the star program i wanted but it takes me to where i might want to go so i kinda accepted it lolol
ohh
word
i got griefed hella this admission cycle
š
lmfaooo i been hearing
im waiting on 6 more schools
but i got everything else, and it wasnt bad for me, but i think the upcoming schools might nerf me on my decisions loll
UCs?
rlly which ones? purdue and all?
purude, usc,c nc state uhhh oberlin and berklee and penn state ofc
oh
usc
god damn
oberlin and berklee were just a long shot for my underlying dreams for music lol
i dont have any expectations tbhh
usc is insane
did u apply eng there?
i applied first choice urban planning and second choice eng
oh
as if that would up my chances but like just for fun ig i dont expect an acceptance from there either way
lmaoo
usc HAHAHS
purdue deffered me
i applied to purdue rd sooo
but theres no sign of a date its pmo
or music
purdue industrial design actually LOL
yea im kinda all over the place
where hv u got in sof ar
vtech, umass amherst, osu, ucinncinati, rutgers, binghampton, stonybrook
oh
those were all i applied to
ā ļø
i just accepted my fate in applying to eng LOL
i was surprised at vtech
rly
like shock in my face but its one of my tops
its a competitive program because first year its general and you have to actually get IN to the program second year
thats me with the canadian unis icl
sounds like america wants me
ur in canada?
yessirr
it is i applied engineering there but i dont think ill be getting in LOL
i lowkey flopped the interview but whateva
oh š
my tops r lowk sjsu or penn state for aero
did you already get penn state or ur waiting still
i got in
i applied ea
BACK in dec
congratss thats really good tho so u have ur top
yea omg i applied to everything so late
yea...
so i want the uc's to accept me lmao
love tuition fees
but i got waitlisted uc davis
praying for u
thanks
every school i applied to is like we had record breaking number of applicants
like this year is not for the weak
LMAO
my school was a top feeder for purdue icl
and this year purdue rejected /deffered top kids
like people w low sats or a low gpa got accepted for eng
and some w high stats deffered
ion
i have no idea what theyre basing it off of tbh like its unpredictable fs
lmao š
who knows
that's every uni atp
shouldnt be above 40k imo
You will get it in like 12 hours
I got into Penn state YAY!
I have a question for any current Penn State STEM students. I went to Admit Day yesterday and absolutely loved it, and i really want to commit. But Iām having second thoughts about my major. Penn State doesnāt offer a neuroscience major, just a minor, which is what I really want to study. The closest alternative is majoring in biology with a neuroscience concentration. Iām also considering biochemistry instead and focusing my research on behavioral studies. Iām on the pre-med track and planning to do an MD-PhD, so research is super important to me. Any advice? Should I stick with biology and the neuroscience concentration, or would biochem be a better fit? Iām also waiting on my UMD College Park decision since thatās my second choice. Would love to hear your thoughts!
oooh im in the same situation
im a biobehavioral health major
Bc i was like thats the closest i could get to neuro but i wanted to minor in neuro
Except im not a current student but they were saying its not too bad to get research if you network but premed opportunities might me iffy im not sure
Hi! Iām pre-vet so not exactly pre-med but are still similar in the fact that we need further education after undergrad. There are good amount of research opportunities for pre vet related things so I have to assume there are plenty for pre-med. I have a pre med friend who was a part of this research program for his freshman year and he was basically able to conduct his own experiments and report details and get graded on his reports so I believe that counted as research. I canāt give you exact info cause unfortunately Iām not premed so idk but my experience has been good with research opportunities (though I donāt know how competitive they are as I havenāt applied to any)
But it is important to network. Talk to your professors, especially the STEM related ones and just ask if they are conducting research or if they know any professors you could ask for a research opportunity. Maybe your professor would put in a good word for you
oooh i just saw this, ik prevet but how would you say are the internships btw! I heard UP is a bit isolated so i was curious abt hospitals and all that :))
Yeah UP is very isolated but for pre vet there are a ton of animal hospitals nearby and I know some offer summer internships or year round jobs if you want to take that on. There are also internships on farms available for me but given that it is so isolated I donāt really want to spend a summer here away from all my friends but thatās just me. I totally see the benefits to staying though to get that upper hand. Not sure if these internships correlate to pre med
Also if you live close enough itād definitely more appealing (at least for me). Iām 4 hours away so I couldnāt really commute to an internship nearby but if you are 30mins-1hr away you def could or stay for the week and go home on weekends over the summer
oooh im oos but im def gonna do internships over the summer as theres big hospitals nearby in my own city but nice to hearr! Im glad i get to hear from current students :)))
btuh is it worth spending like. 60k a year
for this uni
its like pretty good for aereo
tho
i am having a great time here and I was personally pretty nervous to begin college. If you want to party you could do it almost any day of the week but most people only go out Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I have found that plenty of kids (including myself) dont go out much at all and you aren't looked down on for whatever you choose. Biggest alumni network in the nation so thats a huge advantage and with your major you will need connections so that's a plus. Ultimately I love it here and think it's worth it but PSU is one of the more expensive public schools and they are not super generous with their scholarships so if money is a concern it can't hurt to evaluate your other options. Highly recommend visiting though so you can get a feel of the campus and what life is like if you havent already
and penn state is seen as a "party school" but the academics are not easy for the most part (especially STEM fields) and PSU is getting more and more selective each year with more people applying
money isnt much of a issue
internships
yeah i heard psu has a good alumini connection
like 750k+
i love party schools lmaoo
oooh is there stuff to do for fun outside of parties, im not a partier lolol
this is a bad question but i was curious
the town is nice
i belive
UP is decent i heard but kinda isolated i think
yeah
it has its own college town
road trips would be fire tho
3 hour drive to nyc
@glossy beacon does penn state have some car rental shit
like i know some unis have car rentals for students
ooohh NYC would be super funn
dont they have an airport nearby, they prob do
yeah
but those r for lke 25 year old and aobve rentals
š
whoops mb T_T
Idek whether to bring a car for campus or not or if im allowed
for premed, i want internships but i heard some of them are not super close by
prolly allowed
but
r u rly gona take ur car from texas
to
pa?
idekkkk
Maybe?
Idk how much ill use it
But like im gonna see if i can email premed advising and see what is recommended and based on taht, i can figure it out
Lol idek what the premed stuff is bc they dont advertise those internships much, i have to see all that before i commit
i havent even visited yet tho
but their elective classes are super fun thats fs
this week is spring break so prob not, maybe april???
you?
not sure
same oos is a bit too hard for visiting yeah
my question as well lol, i heard CS and eng had a bunch of people tho lol
yeah
i went to admitted students day
hella asians LMAO
well im from bay area
so yeah
Soliddddd, thats good then
I need to visit somewhere in april and get a feel for it but most likely gonna commit here
type shi
i js need a good roomate
Samee T_T
Im gonna be so annoying tho bc i love to be clean and all but i wouldnt force it on other people... i hope
and me staying up would prob be annoying too lol
lmao wrd i like having a clean space shi
p sure every college student awake in the night š
ok valid valid watch me yap for hours tho
ikk i see pictures of usual days of college dorms and i need it to be clean to acc study and stuff T_T
LMAO
i js need a indian roomate
penn state has like hella renovated dorms
ngl, its easier to find indian food with other indians yeah, bc im gonan miss all that if i cant find places
nyc is a 3 hr drive
away
yeah it is
3hrs is a lot to go for food but im gonna go do so much stuff in NYC omg, musicals, chinese food, everything frfr
valid valid, same tho, we love the picturesque sights fr
west coast to east coast is def an experience fs
I used to live east coast so this is like nostalgia in a sense
wrd
prolly might go here
not sure yet
i like the dorms
bathroom r like hella modern type shi
yeah the dorms arent too bad, im still waiting on a few decisions and then i know
east building
is all new renovated too
real
which ones?
NEU waitlist, NCSU, Ivies, and nyu
ohhh
which ivies
ull prolly get in one of the ivys
ur stats r p good
i applied to yale, brown, dartmouth, columbia and cornell for the plot lmaoo
ohhh
i didnt
lol i appreciate the delusion but i shall see T_T
i was gonna get rejected lmao
Nah im getting rejected too, i got rejected duke ED and emory Ed2 so kinda expected i think
No same, its jsut a lottery for me lol, and no interviews
only duke i did get one but thats abt it
oh and duke said no
yeppp
Lol yeah ive been using that as a coping mechanism, im glad i got PSU tho
the more i look into it, i started really liking it for myself ngl
word
only thing its kinda far
same, i kinda envisioned myself going oos tho, so im kinda open to the experience
Im still gonna end up homesick tho
not to my knowledge? I know freshmen cant have cars on campus but some people manage to keep it i dont really know how but dont expect to have a car as a freshman
oh
i wasnt bringing my own car
lmao
i am not transproting my car from ca to pa
oos is fun
š
valid valid
Definitely. Football games are great and you don't need to tailgate to have a good time. I went to like two tailgates and loved the football games. I'm a hockey fan so I knew I would love the hockey games but they are truly incredible and definitely the second best sport to watch here
what major r u btw?
oooh thank you, im generally not a sport person but have been getting more interested in going to games, ill check some out!
outside of sports there are endless clubs and there is a club fair at the beginning of each semester (the one in the fall is much larger but the spring one has tons of clubs too)
I am a veterinary and biomedical sciences major
how many eng type of clubs have u seen
ohh nice nice
Discover unique opportunities at Penn State University Park & World Campus at OrgCentral! Find and attend events, browse and join organizations, and showcase your involvement.
I dont look for engineering but you can look there for things you are interested in!
ty! youre so helpful lolol
and we also have THON which is really great to see how the whole school comes together to work for the one common goal and it is a great experience. I only went for a few hours cause I knew staying up 46 hours straight wasnt happening but from what I saw it was really well put together
of course!
i heard about thon
ooohhh i heard abt that, are people acc staying up that long
its like those last one standing tpy shi?
LMAO, id fall asleep within a few hours lol, theres no way im surviving that
Somehow. I know sororities and frats make the freshman pledges hold up the letters in shifts so typically the freshmen are forced to stay a long time but never forced to do the full 46 hours. Some people just want to do it for the experience but it takes dedication
Basically the students take over our basketball stadium (The Bryce Jordan Center) and everyone does dances, hears stories about the kids we raised money for, and have special guests and activities
it's complicated cause there's so much and I didn't really catch all of it but it is definitely something everyone looks forward to
oh bet
LMAO
sounds fun
i need a social life
lolll same, im not someone who does parties but nice to know they have fun things all around lol
i heard the ice cream place is amazing tho
word well partying kinda fye
deadass?
Yess everyone talks abt it on yt and on the reddit... i think?
wait
rly
send
i fw icecream heavily
i hv a local dairy in my city
its fire
Ice cream is the best yesssss
i will be there all day everyday if its good lol
https://creamery.psu.edu/ this is the one i think
Penn State Berkey Creamery ships to 48 states. Start building your cooler to have delicious ice cream, cheese, and local delicacies delivered right to your door.
shits costly asf
validdd, ima just do it once a month or smthn frfr
LMAO
is there a location
for ts tho?
idekkk lemme check
ohh its on campus!
idek how much it is but ill try some when i visit trust
6$ for cones isnt too bad, i love ice cream so ima try it when i go lol
nvm 10 mb
i think its $6 not $10
oooh the website said 9.95 so lowk confused lol
where did it say that?
i havent been in a few weeks but i doubt they would push the price up so much
lemme find it rq
r ppl like outgoing at psu
looking to make friends abd all
https://macrischocolates.com/collections/penn-state-creamery-ice-cream?page=1 i think it was this page exactly
Ohh wait
am i even on the right page
okkk sooo maybe im delusional and saw 10 but ill trust the person who acc goes to PSU rn lol
lmao
hella worth it tho
10$ for ice cream is a lot but yes im excited to try it once lol
ugh i need to make friends too lol, i feel like people in state would have their own friend groups ngl
naw
everyine looking out for more ppl
True true
yeahh roommates, i hope theyre chill yeah
Like im pretty chill but watch me make a bad first impression lmao
idk anyone going from TX lol, i need to go on the insta page
and find ppl u like
once i know the decisions in final, ima add myself on there too
lmaoo
yeah
I didnt want to be one of those ppl going im 90 percent committed T_T
bc i want to be sure lol
ya
Iām a guy and I havenāt really noticed people to be extremely outgoing, but if you start a conversation people wonāt be closed off if that makes sense. Idk how it is for girls though
im a guy too
do u hv a friendgriup and akk
?
me too i emailed them about it and they said no minors for neuroscience so i just switched my major to biology neuroscience and biochemistry minor
Ok I wasnāt too sure but I think itās different depending on gender. I canāt really say what itās like for girls
maybe
What is akk?
all**
i meab it lets ppl know ur a possible student and all
ohhh theres a neuro major???
Oh yeah for sure. All my close friends are on my floor and we always hang out in someoneās dorm and go to dinner here and there. We went to football games together in the fall and hockey games in the winter and spring
oh bettt
noo minor i mean
r they;re good shopping areas
true true but i feel like decisions are so variable that i cant be sure T_T
yea
but the bio major has a neuroscience option and track
fair
We have a target downtown but it is kinda small. Most other major stores will be a short drive away
i looked at the curriculum and itās pretty close to other schools
oo bet
shoppingmalls?
eng building looks modern ash
oooh lol, i might switch later on
im doing biobehavioral health fs but i pretty much like my major rn so we shall see
Did you hear back abt internships or research btw :)))
i saw there was a nittany mall nearby but its not huge but nice enough lol
oh
rly
do they got those luxury typa stores
yeah its not comparable to the malls nearby but it is what it is
dang
I think thereās one but i havenāt been
o
I know they have buses that might not be free but you can go using that if you donāt have a car. I think they are cheap tho
you can see the store directory i believe
have you committed already?
noppe, ill be sure if i will next week!
i went down town from campus very nice
iām from a big city to the change is very good for me
ooh im from like a suburb area and state college for me seems slightly rural-esque loll
omg me too!! but rn psu is one of my top whichās so ironic since i wasnāt intrested as much when i applied and then i visited and loved it
oohh
if you end up committing lmk!!
no same originally i was gonna pick tamu but i ended up researching PSU and i ended up liking it a lot too š
plus i really liked my major at the end
ofc ofc i shall!!
sameee they have a really good marketing strategy š
do you have insta?
yeppp
add mee @marianna_3rd
ooh lemme do that rnnn
ok so i think i added you rn, lemme know if that was you lol
okayy i added back
lolol youre super aesthetic frfr
no literally, i was hooked after a while!
thank youu!!! and i requested to follow back
LOL samee
whoops mb, i just saww T_T (i accepted now!)
what major r u
WHAT WAS GENERAL GRANT DOING ON THE THEROMSTAT
wait since yall visited, was the campus like super huge that buses were needed to get to classes or decently sized lol
Penn State has buses but they aren't necessary to get to classes at all. I use buses maybe once per week and it is free for the around campus loops
Nice to know!!
The format of campus is pretty nice with the dorms on the outer part and then all our classes will be towards the middle part of campus
I heard walking there takes a bit but i imagine people get dorms closer to their college buildings
Depends on the classes. I will say that some engineering buildings are in a weird corner of campus but still walkable
this semester though my furthest walk from my dorm is like 10-15 mins depending on how fast I want to walk
ooh im at the HHD building(s), idk where that is but i shall checkkk
not bad actually, 15 is manageable
All your classes wont be in that one building but your major specific ones are likely to be there if you are in a BBH related major
yeah im assuming the premed courses are in the sciences one and BBH is more there then
I actually had a chem class in the BBH building. It's super nice and seems very very new
It's also in a great part of campus cause it's close to HUB and downtown
glad to hear!! i didnt even know they offered chem classes in that building
It was chem108 which is just a small group class where we go over material from chem110. Assuming you would have to take that (unless you have AP credit) I recommend it cause 108 is just 1 hr each week and it was a great chance to get TA help. It was like getting credit for going to office hours and it is an easy A if you show up
GPA booster š
all the actual chem classes lectures will be in forum building
ooh yeah im taking ap chem this year but what are your thoughts on retaking these courses for higher level exams, would you say worth it or go ahead and skip (sorry if these are too many questions lol, im just trying to gauge a good understanding XD)
all good! The only classes I skipped with AP credits was a gen ed for like US history or something (AP Gov credit). I took AP Bio and got a 4 which wasnt enough to get me out of bio110 but I was going to take bio110 anyways at PSU no matter how I did just because I wanted to make sure I learned the same stuff as everyone else
yeahhh i was doing premed so i ended up wanting to use other AP credits like history, language but wanted to retake premed related courses fs
Gen eds obviously I wouldnt retake if you get the AP credit but science classes I think it doesnt hurt to retake cause if you know the material you will be fine
yeah def better understanding too if you retake
i dont trust my high school brain to remember anything i do now lol
For sure. I'm in bio this semester and it's basically all repeated stuff from AP
validdd, its prob easier to get a good gpa in that regard too!
is there any classes at PSU that were overlly challenging for you or is everything pretty manageable
Yeah... idk if classes replaced by AP scores count as A's towards the GPA...
ik physics kills me but i was curious
So far everything has been manageable for me but I am a freshman so thats a small sample size of classes
ohh lol i was talking abt retaking classes that you already know content for lolol
Yeah ik i was saying i wasnt sure if the ap scores counted towards gpa here
i doubt it
manageable is a good sign for me fs
oooh mb mb thank you!
i think i heard dual credit courses and grades count but i need to ask on those fs
I will say gen eds can really catch you off guard. Decided to take art history last semester and it ended up being more work than my other classes
oooh i took art appreciation for an associates and let me say that class was uhh super bad T_T
yeah idk about those. im sure if you reached out to admissions or an advisor if/once you commit they could give an answer
it was a 9am class too and 1 hr and 20 mins so i was sleeping through a good portion of the class
so real 9 ams are a nightmare lol
i had an 8 am for a local cc and im too sleepy for that fs
i have a 8am 4/5 days
how are you surviving T_T
My thursdays are 8-11am bio lab and 6:30-10:30pm chem lab lmao
theres classes till 10:30?
chem lab is the only one ive heard of
ohh well i guess ill take that so mentally preparing myself
and i was only stuck with it cause i had a hold on my account that prevented me from scheduling classes at my designated time
valid
what is your major? I can send you a link of your class plan and tell you what ive taken and my experience
Biobehavioral health but i believe its a preadmit thing
i saw in my acceptance letter that we get admitted to the college of HHD but we declare our major after a bit i think?
its a bit vague
Yeah thereās required classes you have to take and then a required GPA to declare your major but its not too difficult
Idk why they do it that way
yeah its a wierd system bc they allowed me to apply with that major lol
Yeah I think you are recognized as being in that major āunofficiallyā
true true
Cause my academic advisors are only for my major
I donāt know what changes when you officially declare your major
yeah I think i could have a premed advisor like usual from the start but idk how this sytem works
ill email them and ask though
for most schools i applied too i did as a neuroscience major
here is your academic plan š Only class I have already taken that you will have to is Bio110 and it's identical to AP Bio and isnt bad at all
oooh i love AP bio, im excited to take that one :)))
allow me to introduce myself
brown monkey.
yessir
im guessing you're indian too
yes
my username shud give it away
ā ļø
lmao
what major r u?
physics, u?
r u intl according to ur roles
I got it relax bro
oh
american citizen but studies in india
u?
i js have permanet resident
yea
DM
ok so im now basically committed to penn state! Ik its late but am i screwed for housing
lol no, ur not screwed relax
most people commit after rd decisions drop, just like you
Ok cool! Usually schools similar to Penn state have slots fill up fast so I was curious
does Penn State accept way more oos/intls
seriously wondering because I see decent instates getting sent to satellites but I do not know a single intl that has not gotten into main, even those with very poor stats for competitive majors
Like 1200-1300 low grades for engineering and CS
no
penn state is majority in-state
pennsylvania is a massive state with a lot of very rural areas. many students from rural areas and small towns end up doing the 2+2 program
Sorry Iām just seeing this but if housing is the same as last year; you sign the housing contract and it is completely random. You can request a certain dorm but itās completely randomized for what dorm you get
Doesnāt matter when you commit
East are the newest dorms so they are the most popular, not in the best location but not in a bad location. Pollock are then the second most popular freshmen dorms but they are older
Pollock does have a better dining hall tho but imo East is better and thatās where I am rn
oooh thank you! Am i allowed to request a renovated one as i have a bit of health issues and that would be helpful
I dont mind what dorm, just a renovated one would be preferred lolol
Yes for sure
There are two renovated dorms, east and south renovated (only part of south is renovated) Iām not sure the renovated ones are available for freshman so I think your best bet is East which is completely renovated. I think when you fill out the housing contract there should be a part where you can list any health issues
Thank you, I will get that done today as well š
That's me
Not 1200 but like 29 act
Penn state scholarship application deadline is over right?
Did they send out the scholarships yet?
ok so i lowk been stalking this school but what are some fun things to do! Ive been curious
like any fun clubs?!
I just saw this- we have a ton of clubs here! Depends on what you are interested!
I can send a link to a list of all of our clubs!
Earlier this month I went on a club trip to Pittsburgh for the day which was a lot of fun. I know a ton of clubs that are super active so I think that no matter what you are interested in you will find something
Discover unique opportunities at Penn State University Park & World Campus at OrgCentral! Find and attend events, browse and join organizations, and showcase your involvement.
Wait this sounds so fun actually
chat is there a discord server/whatsapp group/instagram gc for penn state committed students
omg yeah i was looking for the same thing lmao but i think theres one server where you have to verify yourself
I know itās not a gc but there are those instagram pages where kids introduce themselves. Maybe if you reached out to some of the kids on there they would know or you could start a gc with them
Awesome! We are!
i mean
purdue cs tops penn state cs
regardless
i feel you tho like ion think the 65k tuition is worth it imo
penn state busniess
fr
it had come down to 45k for me
rly
they had even given 5k scholarship
but even after all that purdue was cheaper
yeah...where did you commit?
ucsc
ce
Should I go here to Penn state or Rutgers for Electrical Engineering
are either of them in-state for you
Rutgers is in state
Easy choice
Whys that
Both r on the same level prestige/ranking wise. Both r big public unis. But rutgers would be alot cheaper cuz of in-state tuition so imo thatās the obvious choice
Unless cost is not a factor at all
No factor for me (parents are paying)
Also considering Maryland, Iām doing Electrical Engineering
unless youāre super into college sports i would go with rutgers
all three have a great campus environment but thereās a lot you could do with the difference in price, not to mention itās easy to get to nyc from rutgers whilst penn state is about 3hrs from the nearest major city
If their saying Rutgers in both chats think that might be the move, thanks
id do penn state gng
but yea
which rutgers campus
if its nb, easily rutgers
New Brunswick
But idk Penn state has a lot more funding and better reputation for engineering
i think bc rutgers is in state, id go rutgers ngl
if psu was in-state, id do the other but the money saved is better
My parents are paying for it so that doesnāt affect me
Pretty sure penn state is a good bit better in engineering
But seeing you're in state for nj, just go rutgers
Penn state #31 for engineering, Rutgers NB #72 for engineering
